It is symbolic to purify a Sultan and Sultanah before the Installation Ceremony. A mixture of clean spring water taken from 12 districts of Kedah as well as Zamzam water and nine types of fragrant flowers added with sintok bark and lime produce the water for this ceremony. His Royal Highness the Sultan of Kedah and Her Royal Highness the Sultanah of Kedah have set out to complete the Royal Cleansing Ceremony at Dataran Kepala Tanjung, Istana Anak Bukit on 14 October 2018. 166 The Kedah Sultanate Collections • Kedah Sultanate Museum The Royal Parade Procession and Guard-of-Honour ceremony that took place in Medan Bandar, Alor Setar was held in full tradition and customs. People from various ethnic groups and religion also witnessed and celebrated this very symbolic ceremony. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Installation Ceremony of His Royal Highness Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah as the 29th Sultan of Kedah. The 3.2 km Royal Parade started at 8.30 am in front of Dataran Wisma Darul Aman until Dataran Medan Bandar. The Parade moved along the Darul Aman Highway and passed through six main stops. The parade was accompanied by the Chief of Protocols, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Paduka Haji Syed Unan Mashri bin Syed Abdullah together with the Orang Besar Enam Belas (Sixteen Minor Chiefs) and 40 Kedah Civil Servants, a musical band from Sultan Abdul Hamid College (SAHC) and 10 horses from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Cavalry Unit. The parade ceremony was also accompanied by the symbol of superiority, majesty and glory of the Malay Sultanates, namely elephants, especially three elephants that were specially brought from the National Elephant Conservation Centre in Kuala Gandah, Pahang. The parade also involved the participation of approximately 10,000 school students, members of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Federal Administrative Officers as well as members of the public.
