Post Ranch Inn

Dear Friends,

These last few months I thought a lot about what the catalyst was in life that inspired me to have
this over whelming desire to not just “travel”, but, venture out on soul-fulf illing journeys.

The answer - books.

Although seeking out adventures is par t of my natural DNA, my love of reading is something that
adds to the explanation.

While growing up, I would sit and read for hours, not knowing where the turn of each page would
take me. I would daydream about traveling; about being immersed in a different culture, amazing
landscapes to view, new people to meet and unique foods to try.

I am grateful for those books I read as a kid that played a huge role in shaping my desire to travel; a
shout out to those books is well deser ved. Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren, Adventures of
Huck Finn by Mark Twain, The Yellow Suitcase by Meera Sriram, Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan
Swift, The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo.

Even in recent years, books continue to stir up my desire for journeys. Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth
Gilber t, The Trip of a Lifetime by Monica McInerney, Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes,
Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah, One Per fect Day by Lauraine Snelling.

However, I think what truly signed my fate to want to see the world, was when I read the Asian
proverb, “It’s better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times”. That quote
resonated with me. I felt the same could be said about reading. “It’s better to see something once
than to read about it a thousand times”. No truer words have been written!

So I made a vow that I would not just read about distant places, but experience them for myself.

As 2021 is now upon us, I am conf ident that sooner rather than later, the world will be safe to
explore again. Until that time, remember there are books to read, travel shows to watch and,
photographs to lose yourself in….and, just like I did as a child, allow yourself to continue to dream
about what journey you wish to embark on nex t. I know I am!

Stay grateful, laugh a lot and be kind. Wishing you a HAPPY and HEALTHY New Year!

Yours Truly,

Risa Feldman
