The exhibition is divided into five zones. The first showcases the portraits and works of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and HRH The Princess, who share a commitment to the conservation and restoration of the textile cultural heritage. The second displays 150 shortlisted designs and the winning designs. Next is the showcase of clothes made by renowned Thai designers from textile competition entries. The event is divided into three parts. First is a fashion showcase by 12 leading Thai designers : SIRIVANNAVARI BANGKOK, Archive026, Asava, Ek Thongprasert, Kloset, Renim Project, Issue, TandT, Theatre, Vickteerut, Vinn Patararin and Wisharawish, grouped into different colour trends. Second is an exhibition of shoes, handbags and accessories from both Thai and international brands, grouped into colour trends based on the Trend Book for styling inspiration. The last features 30 hand-woven and hand-dyed textile pieces from various communities, created with inspiration from the book. The textiles are grouped by their materials, fibres, thickness and techniques used, demonstrating how their creation resonates with the mission to preserve traditional techniques with modern creation and production approaches in response to the fast-moving fashion world. Exhibition-visiting manufacturers have better understanding and thus make the best use of the knowledge from the Trend Book. Aesthetics and conservation of local identity aside, the symposium touched on the issue of “Circular Thai” inspired by the concept of circular fashion. A method of fashion production that prioritises sustainability thoroughly from production to consumption, waste disposal and recycling, circular fashion is reflected in the Trend Book which highlights naturallysourced colour palettes focusing on indigo. The information includes colour tones, materials, designs and details, all categorised into six groups based on contemporary lifestyle and seasons. During the trip, HRH The Princess visited an exhibition on the first silk weaving group of the SUPPORT Foundation (The Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques under the royal patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother). Besides, HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya watched a traditional dance performance worshiping Phra That Prasit as well as viewed an exhibition on His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great's and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother’s royal visit for a Kathin ceremony at Wat Phra That Prasit on 13th November 1972, a historical event for this community. HRH The Princess also explored an exhibition on Ban Tha Rua silk weaving group, that of community handicrafts from 50 northeastern groups and another on the SUPPORT Foundation’s first silk weaving group, in which local product development has been intertwined with the concept of local cultural heritage preservation. HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has designed and given “Princess Sirivannavari’s Khit Motif” through Mr. Suttipong Juljarern, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Interior, along with Dr. Wandee Khunchornyakong Juljarern, Chairman of Ministry of Interior’s Ladies Association and Community Developement Department, Ministry of Interior as a New Year present to weavers with an aim to inspire fabric design ideas to further develop more contemporary textile patterns that meet international standard. From the establishment of Nawha silk weaving group under the SUPPORT Foundation in 1977 and its official naming as “The SUPPORT Foundation’s first silk weaving group” in 1998, its members have, up to now, continued the legacy of local wisdoms. The Handicrafts Centre at Wat Phra That Prasit and the Centre of Ban Tha Rua Silk Weaving Group at Wat Si Pho Chai serve as learning centres; their weaving process and culture are included in the local wisdom curriculum at Ban Nawha School, Nawha Pitayakom School and Ratsamakee School. HRH The Princess is committed to preserving and continuing the legacy of textile art in each locality by modernising its design, thinking process and presentation while adding a business perspective to ensure its commercial viability. This travelling exhibition plays a significant role in promoting learning, both academically and professionally, by using new knowledge of the textile industry in various aspects. It is accompanied by a showcase of contemporary fashion designs by 12 Thai designers and an exhibition of products by both local and international brands based on the colour trends presented in the book. By connecting different weaving groups in the South and promoting OTOP handicrafts from Thai local wisdoms by local producers, she has set her goal for sustainable development. For example, during her visit to the exhibition and demonstration of different local textiles and local handicrafts of the South in Narathiwas on 22nd March 2021, HRH The Princess advised 53 weaving and batik groups from different provinces to add contemporary fashion element while preserving local identity, clearly a continuation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’s and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother’s resolution. Use of natural materials is another focus as sustainability and preservation of local identity, for HRH The Princess, need to go hand-in-hand. Embracing this global concept to ensure international reception, the Princess has been tireless in creating ways to further develop woven textiles and batik production in the South. The initial analysis she gave to manufacturers at Narathiwas has been studied and synthesised into detailed practical techniques, process and marketing strategies. Wishing to see her people with a better and sustainable quality of life from their local textile products and batik, she has aided them in achieving financial security by earning an income from added value to their textile identity. For her work in local wisdoms and products, she visited an exhibition showcasing northern Thai textiles and community crafts, an outcome of various projects initiated to develop local wisdoms. It was also during this trip that Princess Sirivannavari presented to the weavers and OTOP manufacturers “Princess Sirivannavari’s Khit Motif” and “Donkoi Model book”, “Princess Sirivannavari's S Motif book”, colour charts from “Thai Textiles Trend Book Volume 2”. She also gave members of 13 SUPPORT Foundation groups an opportunity to develop Thai textiles to meet international standards by combining contemporary elements with unique identity deriving from local narratives and wisdoms. HRH The Princess visit to Nakhon Pathom province has also helped promote the local communities’ arts and crafts. This exhibition is, to a certain extent, a continuation of the previous showcase. It features products by 50 groups of OTOP manufacturers including clothes and fabrics such as Mud mee with pineapple pattern from Ban Wang Kor Hai traditional pattern weaving group, Noen Kham district, Chai Nat province as well as quilts from U-Thong Quilts, Suphan Buri province and many more. Princess Sirivannavari gave an audience to 22 members of the SUPPORT Foundation during which she offered some advice in terms of product improvement, including textiles, pottery and basketry and focusing on achieving a contemporary appeal while preserving local and natural identity. HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya granted a royal permission to Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior organize a royal-patterned fabric contest on the “Princess Sirivannavari’s Khit Motif” and handicrafts. There are 2,946 applicants of fabrics and 298 handicrafts in the contest. 61 fabrics and 10 handicrafts qualified through the national final round. HRH The Princess worked as the editor-in-chief for the academic discussion on “Promotion and Development of Thai Fabric Image to the World of the Year 2022” according to HRH The Princess’s intention in continuation to the latest book, which is Volume 3, organized by Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture. This exhibition displayed trends and directions of Thai fabrics and designing costumes with Thai fabrics and royally bestowed the trend books covering directions of Thai fabrics to the management team and relevant departments and gave lectures on the topic “Promotion and Development of the Thai Fabric Image to the World.” With the intention to continue, maintain and extend the royal aspirations of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother in elevating the lives of the people to be able to support themselves and their families, along with the preservation of national cultural treasures especially the weaving arts and crafts in each locality. For the purposes of creating the Thai Textiles Trend Book, it is to be a collection of information about Thai textiles and global fashion trends to present the trend and direction of Thai fabrics and costume design with Thai fabrics towards designers, weavers, communities and professionals of all fields. The latest Thai Textiles Trend Book Spring/Summer 2023 presents the concept of “Moving Culture”, and an exchange of identity of each locality on the fabrics inspired by the atmosphere of Thai summer season.
