TWHBEA Creative Contest
Each year the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Associa-tion sponsors a creative art con-
test for its youth members. The categories are Photographs, black and white and color, Oil and Pastel Painting
and Pencil Drawing, 3 D Art, Textile, Essay, Poetry and Promotional Commer-cial. The quality of the entries
made the judges’ task a very difficult under-taking. For a full list of winners go to www.twhbea.com.
TWHBEA 4-H
AchievementAward
The 4-H Achievement Award is given each year by The Tennessee
Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association to honor the top
4-H horse project using a registered Tennessee Walking Horse. This
year’s recipient is:
Rhett Huckstep of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The son of Blair and
Zach Huckstep. Rhett rode his 23 year old gelding, Mack K’s Lucky
Boy to win this honor. Congratulations to Rhett on a job well done.

All Youth Day Horse Judging
There were 80 youth contestants present Saturday, and all were excited. Some wore the traditional slacks and
blazers while other teams opted for team logo t-shirts. But as far away as North Carolina, the youth contestants
came. As always, capturing horses and handlers, at the right time, and professional adult judges to tie the classes
and hear oral reasons was a trial for the Youth Coordinator, Paulette Ewing and Vice President of the Youth
Division, Chris Hazelwood.
The winners were, Senior Reasons Overall Team, Cody Bartlett, Tehya Howell, Bailey Steger and Andrew
Bartlett, Junior Overall Team, Kiyah Howell, Blake Johnson, Mallory Johnson and Ashley Thrasher, these teams
are pictured above. Mattie Lowery was the Junior Overall Individual, pictured below left, Senior Reasons Over-
all Individual was Jared Henson, not pictured and Senior Overall Non-Reasons was Evan Claborn, pictured

TWHBEA Distance Program
Venus De Bwee Retires
I love this horse. I have had and still have many TWH’s, but this
lovely mare has done it all. She has successfully shown, been in
drill teams, given birth to beautiful foals, and been a super horse
on the trails, logging 782.5 hours. And I didn’t begin the logging
until she had already been on the trails for years.
I have started eight horses in this program, many to the 100 hour
level, several to 250 hours, two past the 500 hours, 782.5 and
799.5. I have numerous badges, hats, saddle horn bags and two
halters. Because I ride so many horses, no jacket yet.
I have passed on the log books to people who have bought horses
from me. I had hoped they would continue the logging.
