The Trainers’ Show Rocked
The National Trainers’ Show is always one of the first
shows of the year, this year it was scheduled for March
19 – 21, and was one of the first to cancel due to the
COVID-19 pandemic. It was rescheduled for October
8 – 10, 2020 and the wait was worth it! With 504 entries
it was a great success. Jerry Collier, Robert Cortner and
Mike Hilley served as judges for this years show. Because
of the date change, one great addition to the show was the
exhibition of recently crowned World Grand Champion
Master’s Razzle And Jazz.
We Will Rock You and Philip Trimble claimed the
52nd Annual National Trainers’ Show Grand Champion
title for proud owners Chris and Edwin Hutchinson. Gin’s
Shadow and Sam Martin walked away with the reserve
for owner Mike Floyd.
Congratulations to all of the winners and to the
Trainers’ Association on a great show. The date is set for
March 18 – 20, 2021 for next years show, so mark your
calendars now.

Christy Kakassy
October 18, 1965 – October 19, 2020
Born in La Miranda, California • Wife of Tom Kakassy
Our beloved friend Christy Kakassy passed from this life
on October 19, 2020 following a valiant four-month battle
with acute myeloid leukemia. Christy began her love affair
with the Tennessee Walking Horse when she was just a girl
living in Hesperia, California. Christy attended her first
Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in 1982 at
the age of 16 with Russ Thompson Stables. Christy would
go on to become a wonderful fixture at the Celebration,
returning each year to show horses and commune with her
many friends in the industry.
Christy owned and loved many horses over the years,
including World Champion Slippen’ Around and Scored,
World Champion It’s Chavez, Miss Caroline Kennedy,
I’m Cool Blue, Uptown Funk, and Smarty Party. Christy
was a tireless advocate for the causes near to her heart,
and the Tennessee Walking Horse never knew a finer
and more dedicate advocate than she was. Christy
served on the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’
and Exhibitors’ Association Executive Committee in
2013 as the Performance Horse Vice President and in
2014, 2015, 2016, and 2019 as the Admin/Fiscal/Au-
dit Vice President. Christy was a TWHBEA Board
of Director from both the State of California and the
State of South Carolina.
Christy met the love of her life, Tom Kakassy,
while the two served on the TWHBEA Board of
Directors. Christy made the cross country move from
California to the Kakassy farm in South Carolina in
2014, and she expressed to those closest to her that she
finally had everything in life she had always wanted.
She had her love and her best friend in Tom, and she
had her horses living right there on the farm with her.
We are at peace knowing that she found the happiness in
life she so richly deserved.
Christy is deeply missed by so many in our tight-knit
industry who were the recipients of her endless love and
kindness. There is a huge hole in all our hearts that is a tes-
tament to the impact she had on others. We are grateful to
have benefitted from Christy’s efforts to improve our breed
and from the love we received from her.
[FAST Showcase]
Alot Of Rocking Going On
The FAST Showcase was held November 12,
2020 at the Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, Tennes-
see. It was moved from a spring show date due to
the Covic-19 pandemic. Chris Zahnd judged the 39
classes with 299 entries.
This show was dedicated to Christy Kakassy who
recently passed away following a battle with acute
myeloid leukemia. Other dedications was The Red
Lady class that was added in honor of Kathy Zeis.
Both will be greatly missed.
We Will Rock You and Philip Trimble took top
honors in the Grand Championship Stake class. This
was the fifth grand championship stake this year
for this team and proud owners Chris and Edwin
Hutchinson. Reserve went to Walkin’ Mr. charlie and
Sam Martin for owners Terry and Lisa Smith.
Congratulations to FAST on a great show and to
all the winners.
