Jesse’s family has always owned and worked
mules and horses, with their favorite being the Ten-
nessee Walking Horse. Jesse’s mother bought him
his first walking horse when he was five years old.
While attending college at Middle Tennessee State
University, Jesse graduated with a degree in Animal
Science while working for Dr. Dewitt Owen, DVM, a
well-known vet in Franklin, TN, during his summers.
Dr. Owen had colts, and Benny Bowman, a co-work-
er, taught Jesse how to handle and train, thus leading
to Jesse’s show carrier beginning in 1976, showing
walking horses in the halter division for Dr. Owen. Fol-
lowing college in 1976, Jesse went to work for Middle
Tennessee Electric and started showing horses of his
own in 1977.
Jesse married his wife Sheron in 1986; togeth-
er, they have three children, Jessica, Jesse III, and
Jaron Dotson. Jessica is married with two children,
but like her mother, his daughter is not involved with
the horses, just big supporters. However, Jesse III’s
wife, Melveshia Dotson, is an avid supporter of the
breed and has shown colts for the family business.
In addition, Melveshia has introduced her family to
the industry by including her nephew Zyaire Trazie by
competing in the leadline division with his pony Look-
out Mya. Jesse III started showing at age seven, and
Jaron began at age six.
Jesse won the 1989 TWHBEA National Futurity
with Cash Caress for owner Bonnie Cady and earned
the Reserve World Grand Champion Yearling title that
year at the Celebration. The Dotson Brothers Farm-
raised World Grand Champion Cash In My Stock
was started under saddle on their farm by Mr. James
(Moe) Covington and later purchased by Charles
Gleghorn and claimed the title of 2001 15.2 and

and Walking Weanling Reserve World Grand
Champion with Luchador and the 2020 TWH-
BEA National Futurity Weanling Fillies with
Charlie’s Sweetheart. Between 2011 and 2018,
the Dotson family won seven Reserve World
Championship with his eight broodmares. Six of
these go back to one mare, Sweetheart’s Shad-
ow dam of Pride’s Dr. B, and granddam of Cash
In My Stock. While they are still waiting for that
World Grand Championship win, they are proud
of their accomplishments in and out of the ring.
They will continue striving for that World Grand
Championship title with their family’s determina-
tion and hard work.
The Dotson Brothers Farm are proud pro-
moters of the Tennessee Walking Horse. They
have taken colts to the Tennessee State Fair for
several years. Jessie’s other agricultural inter-
ests include owning and raising cattle and turnip
greens on his farm. He is also very active in his
church and serves as a Deacon. The Dotson
family takes great pride in their heritage as a
prominent family in the Williamson County area
and their stock of Tennessee Walking Horses
they have produced over the years. Jesse nev-
er meets a stranger and loves to talk about his
horses. So, if you see him at a show, stop and
introduce yourself, and you have made a friend
for life.
