Junior Show Horse Sire’s Statistics for 2020

Statistics of the production of a stallion give you a true measure of how well a stallion is repro-
ducing his talent. To better see how the leading stallions measure up we analyzed the stallions
production compared to his offspring’s success in the show ring.

The resulting tables are for Junior Tennessee Walking Horses. We define “Junior” as horses
shown as 2, 3 and 4 year olds in 2020 ONLY. For a sire to be recognized, he had to have at least
4 different ribbon-winning offspring in these age groups combined. Some stallion listed may only
have 2 year olds and some 2 and 3 year olds only, etcetera.

Open and Amateur classes designated for horses 2, 3, or 4 years old were combined in these sta-
tistics. Flat shod classes designated for 4 and under were also included.

Each sire is grouped according to their production volume. They are listed in the order of percent-
age of get successful in the show ring. The columns on first page of the statistics are as follows;
production group, sire name, total points won by get in 2020, total ribbons won by get in 2020,
average points per get in 2020 and the leading point earners for each stallion in the padded classi-
fications and the flat shod classifications also listed with the dam’s sire of each.

The columns of the second page are production group, sire name, year first foal born, number of
ribbon winning get in 2020, total registered get born from 10/01/2015 thru 9/30/2018, The per-
centage of total get successful in the show ring, the number of padded ribbon winning get and the
number of flat shod ribbon winning get. We also included this year data showing each stallion’s
get showing in the 2,3,&4 year old classes at the Celebration including World Grand Champions,
World Champions and Total Celebration Ribbons won by get in 2020.

This data can give a breeder a snapshot of stallions in comparison to others under the same crite-
ria. Its always good to take this information and combine it with conversations of those most
knowledgeable with the stallion and their offspring.

Again, all of these statistics are only for those classes, that a sire’s offspring were shown
under saddle that were designated as a 4-year-old or under class.

Data sources were, TWHBEA Premium Ipeds, The Walking Horse Report Online
“Stallion Report” and “Progeny Search”.

Mona
Dean

by Paulette Ewing

Mona Dean grew up in Wendell,
North Carolina and as a young girl
Mona would walk to the field at lunch
so she could ride the mules to the
house. When she was in the fifth grade
she got her first pony and has had
horses ever since. She went to Mere-
dith College in Raleigh, North Carolina,
they had a horse program and she was
president of the Hoofprint Club, this
club was where the town kids could
come and take lessons. Horses have
always played a big part in her life.

After college she married Proc
Dean and worked with him in their oil
and gas business as a Citgo distrib-
utor. One of her horses was named
Mr. Citgo. Her husband bought her
first walking horse for her in 1962 from
Dude Crowder. She took this horse to
McLaurens Stables and they were the
first to put her in the show ring. Charles
Bobo was in Raleigh, North Carolina
and was her first walking horse trainer.
One of her favorite horses was Pride’s
Glory B that was in training with David
Polk.

Ronnie Spears won a world cham-
pionship with one of her horses in
pleasure driving. Mona has had horses

It was 4 years ago that I was look-

heart was set on a Tennessee Walking
Horse buckskin gelding. As fate would
have it, I found a Sabino Palomino
mare that stole my heart. She was
over 1000 miles away but the deal was
struck and the shipper arrived a week
later with Intense Platinum Ice SW. A
wise man once said that a journey of
1000 miles begins with a single step.
And so our journey began. I nicknamed
her Dixie and the work of building her
trust with me began with 4 months of
ground work and relationship building.
I took her on long hand walking ad-
ventures, ponied her from my steady
Rocky Mountain horse, ground drove
her and trailered her to every rodeo
competition to stand and learn how to
handle adrenaline in all situations. Ev-
ery day she amazed me with her willing
attitude and athleticism. The following
2 years was spent with long, slow trail
conditioning miles and training until
