FROM YOUR PRESIDENT

from the president

David W. Williams

Fall is a busy time of the year for a Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast and TWHBEA.
We have just finished participating in a phenomenal Celebration. It’s election time at
TWHBEA; with many ballots being returned to determine your leaders for 2018. Stallion
Reports are coming in which will give us a very good barometer on what our breeders are doing.
Lastly, all the Beautiful Fall trail rides are beginning.

The 2017 Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration was a great success with many new World
Grand Champions being crowned. Friends and Family gathering to socialize and to enjoy
our beautiful breed. Many horse sales occurred during the Celebration with many newcomers
purchasing a Tennessee Walking Horse for the very first time. Yearling sales had a tremendous
increase in interest and results have been compared to sales interest some 20 years ago. We see
a great trend in the interest in yearlings right now.

Election Time is coming to an end and we hope you have returned your ballot to elect the new
leaders for your area. The volunteers who donate their time to become directors and help keep
TWHBEA on a successful path need your support and encouragement. Only through their efforts
and yours can we continue to keep TWHBEA as a shining example of a great breed organization.

Stallion Reports have arrived and we will soon see the trends on what our breeders are focusing
on. Whether you breed for the best trail companion, a smooth ride with a unique color, or foals
that will eventually participate at the highest levels of show ring competition we at TWHBEA are
interested in what you do and how we can help you achieve your goals.

As Fall comes, our beautiful foliage begins to turn to a colorful tapestry that only our Lord
above can paint. There is no better way to view and enjoy our Fall foliage than on a smooth
Tennessee Walking Horse. Spend your weekends in the saddle and enjoy the outdoors with your
friends and our great breed of horse.

Have a wonderful Fall,

David W. Williams 4
President TWHBEA

FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | GENERAL EDITOR

TWHBEA – Lewisburg

RORY R. WILLIAMS

Executive Director|General Editor

Greetings all! We hope sincerely that this edition finds you well and rested up from the
hard work, many shows and miles, and other life events with your family and equine
friends which have occurred over the summer. The Voice of the Tennessee Walking
Horse magazine will keep you company on the couch while staring at beauty of the fall foliage
coming down outside – so grab a cushion and sit back to enjoy this edition.

Thank you, up front, to all the patrons of our magazine that advertise their horses, farms,
trainers and sometimes their families. It’s because of people like you, who are directly
responsible, that we can continue with a quality, internationally received and acclaimed,
magazine. Our distribution is without a doubt the largest of any Tennessee Walking Horse
publication in existence. Several advertisers noted recently that their equine breeding and selling
businesses have picked up solely because of advertising in the Voice of the Tennessee Walking
Horse. With the multi-ad discounts we have in place, it really is a bargain for the hardworking
man or woman to run several ads a year.

Inside these pages are many of the winners from several late summer shows, including the
TWHNC, with Gen’s Black Maverick taking the blue. Additionally, we’ve entered summaries on
the late summer shows and some pictures and judges cards from the National Futurity. Speaking
of shows, we are diligently working on our iPeds database entering show results. It is our goal to
give you the ability to see the real time high-point standings through this application.

Two other major improvements to the building, include a new roof and guttering and repair
to the floor and foundation. There are a great many smaller projects still to wrap up, some even
yet to start, but we’re remaining positive that we’ll get them completed before the end of the
fiscal year. As many of you know, this building was constructed and ready for occupancy of the
Association in 1968-1969. Since then, there have been a great many remodeling jobs completed
and yet this building remains an icon of Lewisburg and Marshall County – we dare say Middle
Tennessee. People stop and visit just to see what it is and who we are. Our auditorium rents on
weekends for more than half of the year, for weddings and reunions and community events and
people love it.

Now, as the year draws nearer its’ end, we must ask all of you to renew your annual
memberships and to encourage others to do so. By your membership dollars, this association
runs – conducts research – improves the property and the procedures of the registry – purchases
new equipment and organizes horse shows to exhibit the best of the breed to the world.
TWHBEA is the official breed registry and will be forevermore, but we have to have your support
to make it a viable entity. Thank you for all that you do for our breed and for us! God bless you.

TWHBEA NATIONAL FUTURITY

Futurity

The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association 79th Annual National Futurity was
held August 23, 2017 at Calsonic Arena in Shelbyville, Tennessee. As is tradition the Futurity is held the
first night of the Celebration with the Celebration judges Jennifer Bingham, Chis Bobo, Scotty Brooks,
David Landrum and Bill Reel marking the cards for the 108 entries.
TWHBEA Vice President Carrie Benedict added for the first time Riders’ Cup classes to the Futurity. Also
offered for the first time were classes for the two and three-year-olds in the model division. Nominations nearly
doubled this year due in huge part to these changes.
Congratulations to all the winners of the 2017 National Futurity.
