(2) QUEEN’S WALKING PRINCESS, Leah Haithcock for Lisa Mackey; developing a better horse and becoming a more skilled equestrian.
(3) THE COLONEL’S GO BOY, Caitlyn Duschel, owner/rider. I am learning through dressage that my horse, Carnegie
Hall, and I are becoming more of a team. As we practice the
diagonals, circles, straight lines, gaits, and transitions, I have the
realization that all of these movements are developing a better
responsiveness between my horse and me. As my horse is
learning to bend and move under leg pressure and slight hand
movements, I am able to free up my seat and allow my horse to
move better. As an equestrian, dressage is definitely a challenge.
You cannot be a ‘passenger’, you must be a rider who is in tune
with the horse. I hope that dressage, an old riding discipline,
will gain more popularity in the walking horse world because of
its many benefits to the horse and rider. Striving for more on a
Tennessee Walking Horse should always be the goal of our the
Tennessee Walking Horse Association.
