From The

Jack G. Heffington

The annual elections of officers and executive committee members is now behind us
and with a combination of newly elected and re-elected positions the new executive
committee is in place and doing great things in moving TWHBEA forward and making the
association relevant again.

Well known horse personality, Mark Farrar, has been hired and is now serving as our ex-
ecutive director. Mark is in charge of the day to day operations at the office and is represent-
ing TWHBEA throughout the horse world with his many connections with other horse breeds.

Thomas Derickson, who is our Chief Financial Officer, is doing a great job and is highly
appreciated by all the staff.

With Mark Farrar and Thomas Derickson in place, I feel that TWHBEA is in the best
management hands that we have ever been in and that seems to be the consensus of our
members.

Shows are being scheduled and I believe that 2022 will be a great year for the Tennes-
see Walking Horse.

Sincerely

TWHBEA President

TWHBEA NEWS

Affiliate Your 2022 Shows
TWHBEA is excited about the upcoming show season and invites all shows to take advantage of
our free show affiliation which allows exhibitors the ability to count points for affiliated shows for our
International High Point Program. TWHBEA will promote all affiliated shows on our website, so-
cial media pages and e-blasts. Shows will also be listed on the TWHBEA calendar, and their results
included as part of the official show record in our registration database. In an effort to promote the
versatility of the Tennessee Walking Horse, for no additional charge, your show can be a double point
show by having at least three (3) halter/versatility classes and (3) pleasure rail classes.
When affiliating, shows can also choose to offer Youth Medallion classes, which encourage youth
riders to learn and become proficient showing in canter classes. Youth Medallion classes are offered
in two divisions, performance and pleasure, at various horse shows throughout the year. Horse Shows
that offer Youth Medallion classes will receive complimentary ribbons (first through fifth) and a me-
dallion for the class. They will be reimbursed for the standard prize money offered for the class ($100
for first, $75 for second, $50 for third, $40 for fourth, and $30 for fifth). There is no charge for a show
to participate in the program and offer Youth Medallion classes.
To affiliate your horse show for 2022, visit www.twhbea.com/affiliate.

New Executive Committee Members Added
We’ve added two new Executive Committee members since the first of the year. Carrie Benedict was
elected in January to fill the term of Joyce Moyer who had resigned. Benedict, who has previously
served on the Executive Committee, is now the Vice-President for Owners/Exhibitors/International.
In February Dee Cantrell was elected to fill the term of Ann King, who had resigned. Cantrell served
as the Breeders Vice-President in 2020 and will now serve as the Youth Vice-President.

Jayden
Jackson

Fairest Of
The Fair

Jayden Jackson is a proud member of the Tennessee Walk-
ing Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association. She has grown
up in a family full of Tennessee Walking Horse generational
love as she is the granddaughter of TWHBEA president, Jack G
Heffington and Nancy Ballentine Elliott, the daughter of Chad
and Jacquelyn Way, and is the big sister of Wylder Way.

Jayden represented Bedford County as Miss Bedford
County Fairest of the Fair at the Tennessee Fairest of the Fairs
State pageant at the 2021 convention. This was the hundredth
anniversary and one of the largest turn outs for a crowd.

Jayden’s resume represented being an Autism Speaks
Ambassador, Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Advocate,
and most importantly her love for the Tennessee Walking
Horse. As Jayden graced the stage, the emcee of the pageant
announced that Jayden was a multi World Grand Champion
and World Champion Tennessee Walking Horse exhibitor as
well as a scholarship recipient of the Tennessee Walking Horse
Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association, Walking Horse Trainers’
Association, Walking Horse Trainers’ Auxiliary Association,
Walking Horse Owners Association, and Tenda Equitation
World Grand Champion scholarships. During her interview,
Jayden also had the opportunity to share her love of the breed
and her passion of competing to the three judges in a round
robin style interview. Out of the 49 girls that competed in the
pageant, each girl was asked to design a shoe representing
their county. Of course, Jayden chose to decorate hers with the
theme of Tennessee Walking Horses and she included perfor-
mance and pleasure horses, Tennessee Walking Horse National
Celebration ticket stubs and programs, and a sign highlighting
that the Tennessee Walking Horse is a hometown tradition of
Bedford County.

Out of 49 girls they selected the top 10 and after asking
them each an individual question they eliminated down to top
5. Following top 5, Jayden was selected first runner up. She is
very proud of her accomplishment and enjoys sharing her love
for the Tennessee Walking Horse everywhere she goes. She
loves being able to intertwine her passion for both pageants
and horses.

Jayden is looking forward to the 2022 show season and
wishes luck to all exhibitors, owners, trainers, and breeders
and encourages all Tennessee Walking Horse lovers to be an
ambassador of our breed and advocate for our wonderful breed
everywhere they go.
