PROJECT DESCRIPTION 2022 CLIENT : JABATAN PENGAIRAN DAN SALIRAN NEGERI JOHOR (JPS) The primary goal of the study is to assess the efficiency of existing agricultural drainage system in Tanjung Kupang and to propose recommendations to overcome the problems to minimise the impact of surrounding development in the said area. In order to achieve this, the study shall meet the objectives as follows:- 3.1 To identify the existing issues in the Study Area that has been causing flooding 3.2 To create a database of the existing inventories which consists of agricultural drainage channels, flood gates and all other related structures. The consultant shall also provide an AutoCAD version of the database 3.3 To formulate comprehensive short term and long-term solutions for the flooding problems to reduce the adverse impacts and to protect the existing and future developments by providing an appropriate level of affordable flood protection. The proposed flood mitigation measures shall incorporate the concept of integrated flood management and river restoration, which requires minimization of structural intervention ensuring the effectiveness of the existing flood mitigation infrastructure network and drainage facilities within the Study Area, taking into account the environmental impacts, social and public expectations 22 145

DEFECT INSPECTION AND MONITORING FOR SUSPENDED SLAB AT FGV PASIR GUDANG, JOHOR DARUL, TAKZIM PROJECT DESCRIPTION 2021-2022 CLIENT : DELIMA OIL PRODUCTS SDN BHD On January 2021, 2 represent persons from the Facultyl of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) visited Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd a for kick-off meeting regarding the defect inspection and monitoring works for the suspended slab located in Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd’s factory (FGV building). On the same day, the UTM team has been conducted rapid inspection and measurement by using a non-a destructive test (NDT) site at a specific suspended slab in the FGV building. The purpose of measurement is to know the type of defect and to propose a monitoring test to the client for further precaution and technical advice. The works start after receiving the letter of award (LoA) and the duration of works for this project is between 5th April 2021 – 9 th November 2021 including some delay due to the movement control order (MCO) announced by Malaysian National Security Council during COVID-19’s pandemic period. From the results, it was found that there is very minimum crack and deflection movement within the project duration and this gives insight that there is no significant sign of horizontal and vertical movement appearing at the selected existing defect structure. In this case, it is advised that no loading is allowed to maintain no horizontal and vertical movements at the existing defect area. For another reason, it was spotted that the degradation of concrete found at a few slab structures and it could reduce the durability and reduce the service life of the concrete structures. FORMULATION AND PROPERTIES OF LATEX MODIFIED MORTAR PROJECT DESCRIPTION 2021 CLIENT : KANEKA (MALAYSIA) SDN BHD In the construction industry, concrete and mortar are the main cementitious materials that have been used mainly for the building because of its durability, strength and costeffective. However, there are certain problems that occur in the ordinary mortar and concrete which are the porous nature of the concrete and mortar itself that brought low durability as the microcracks and pores will be formed that generally affect the strength properties of the ordinary mortar and concrete. In order to improve the quality and properties of ordinary mortar, addition of polymer latex would be ideal as it is very economical and has unique properties such as good tensile strength, adhesion and durability that would repair the ordinary mortar. In this study, raw material which is latex was characterized through microstructure examination by viscosity test, moisture content, pH value, spectroscopy and particle size. Latex was added into ordinary cement mortar with specific cement-sand ratio and water-cement ratio to get an optimum mix formulation and similar solid content of latex modified mortar under compressive strength test. An overview on how polymer latexes affect the ordinary cement mortar was discussed in this study. Latex modified mortar at optimum mix formulation and similar solid content were determined and characterized on its physical and mechanical properties. Physical properties was determined using water absorption test, density test, Initial Surface Absorption Test (ISAT), setting time test and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) while mechanical properties through flexural strength and splitting tensile strength including the compressive strength. The microstructure and morphology of the latex modified mortar are also conducted through such tests and analysis which are Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD). This study demonstrated that latex material has specific elements and chemicals contain in the latex which will benefit the ordinary mortar in term of the physical and mechanical properties. PROF. VERIFICATION AND PERFORMANCE STUDY OF PILOT TRIAL SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT, RENOLUX ENGINEERING SDN. BHD. PROJECT DESCRIPTION 2019-2021 CLIENT : RENOLUX ENGINEERING SDN. BHD The project evaluates the performance of a pilot-scale Advanced Immobilized Cell Reactor (AICR) system in treating domestic wastewater. The system was designed to treat a flow rate of 150 PE, which is equivalent 33.75 m3/day. The evaluation was carried out for about one year. SCREENING OF POTENTIAL NEW EMERGING POLLUTANTS (NEP) AT PART OF SG. ULU BENUT, SIMPANG RENGAM, KLUANG, JOHOR PROJECT DESCRIPTION 2019 - 2020 CLIENT : BADAN KAWAL SELIA AIR JOHOR (BAKAJ) Due to the presence of municipal landfill, chicken farming activities, residential and urban areas that are situated not far from the Simpang Renggam Water Treatment Plant (WTP), there has been a growing concern on the presence of the new emerging pollutants (NEPs) in the water source of the WTP. Badan Kawal Selia Air Johor (BAKAJ) has therefore appointed Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) to assess the presence of these chemicals at the upstream rivers of the WTP DR. The main objective of the assessment was to determine the types of NEPs that are presence in the river water during dry and wet period. The study was carried out between April and October 2019, which represent a relatively dry and wet weather, respectively. Samples were collected at eight sampling locations that represent various activities and sources that have the potential of discharging NEPs that eventually flow into the river. 27 152


DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE APPS FOR NATIONAL RIVER TRAIL The Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) has recently announced an initiative to create 10,000 km of National River Trails (DSK) throughout Malaysia by 2030. In addition to being used for recreational and eco-tourism activities, the DSK was developed as a measure to control water pollution and to create a sense of shared responsibility to the community towards the river. To enable DSK to fully benefit the public, a digital platform system was developed as a media to deliver information to users. This platform will provide facilities regarding the existence of the trail and its features, which are provided and the activities that can be carried out and also serve as a communication channel for users to provide feedback, reports and suggestions. BHD. to conduct tidal monitoring at MMHE West Yard (Quay 7) for a period of 14 days from 23rd December to 6th January 2023 before offshore structure loadout operation. Then 2 days real time tidal monitoring during KASAWARI Jacket (22nd and 23rd January 2023) and Topside (9th and 10th March 2023) Loadout Operations. The real-time tidal observation refer to MMHE Chart Datum were compared with Johor Port predicted tidal data. The comparison aims to analyze the difference between real-time tidal observation and predicted tide. Tidal reliable information is important and required by PETRONAS and MMHE engineering team for loadout planning, preparation and operations. NUR SYAMIMI ZAIDI (SEKTOR ALAM SEKITAR) 2021 Projek ini bertujuan untuk menyemak semula kesesuaian dan keberkesanan polisi, strategi, kaedah kawalan, garis panduan pelaksanaan dan cadangan projek landskap terdahulu yang telah disediakan di dalam Pelan Induk Landskap Majlis Perbandaran Batu Pahat (2008-2020). Selain itu, ia juga menjadi asas rujukan bagi perancangan, pembangunan, penguatkuasaan dan pengurusan landskap yang sistematik dengan landskap yang menarik dan beridentiti melalui pembangunan rangkaian hijau dan kemudahan rekreasi yang berfungsi ke arah pembangunan Bandar Berkarbon Rendah. 39 165


RANCANGAN KAWASAN KHAS PEMBANGUNAN TAMAN NEGARA, ENDAU ROMPIN, JOHOR PROJECT DESCRIPTION CLIENT : PERBADANAN TAMAN NEGARA JOHOR 2022 RKK Taman Negara Endau Rompin Johor bertujuan untuk menyediakan RKK Pembangunan Taman Negara Endau Rompin, Johor sebagai satu pelan pengurusan pemuliharaan dan pelan tindakan pembangunan bagi menyokong pengiktirafan Taman Negara Endau Rompin sebagai ASEAN Heritage Park (AHP). Taman Negara Endau Rompin mempunyai keluasan kira-kira 891km2. Ia merupakan kawasan mega-diversiti kedua terbesar selepas Taman Negara Pahang. Taman Negara Endau Rompin di bahagian Johor telah ditubuhkan pada tahun 1993 (No. Warta Kerajaan Negari Johor: 1200 dan 1201) dan merupakan kawasan perlindungan terbesar di Selatan Semenanjung Malaysia. PROJECT LEADER: TS. DR. NUR SYAMIMI ZAIDI (SEKTOR ALAM SEKITAR) Jumlah keluasan kawasan Taman Negara Endau Rompin Johor adalah 48,905.79 hektar. Kawasan kajian melibatkan keluasan seluas 51,356.79 hektar. Sejumlah 48,905.79 hektar adalah kawasan Taman Negara Endau Rompin Johor. Kawasan kajian juga melibatkan beberapa petempatan pekan dan perkampungan orang asli di dalam kawasan kajian yang berkedudukan sama ada berada di dalam, berdekatan atau sebagai penghubung ke kawasan taman negara ini. Taman Negara Endau Rompin Johor terletak di dalam kawasan Kompleks Hutan Endau Rompin-Sedili di bawah Kajian Semula Pelan Induk Rangkaian Ekologi Central Forest Spine. 40 166

In doing so, MSMJ has invited the Center for Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), UTM as the authorized Technical Third Party for advising the MSMJ with regards to the IETS operation and its monitoring performance, as well as remedial measures. The objectives of the project are (i) To assess and monitor the current operations of MSMJ’s IETS and its performance, (ii) To propose feasible improvements for the IETS to meet the intended standard stipulated by the DOE (during contravention period), and (iii) To perform an environmental impact study of the wastewater discharge from MSMJ’s IETS to the surrounding area. 41 167
