CHAPTER FOUR
CONCLUSION
4.1 APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE IN
UNDERTAKING THE TASK (KNOWLEDGE GAINED)
There are many knowledge, skills, and experience that I had been gained while
conducting the industrial training at Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak, Shah Alam. I had been
assigned with a variety of tasks either related to resource center management or non-resource
center management such as administrative tasks. Therefore, there are many knowledge and
skills gained by me and I will explain in detail below:
4.1.1 Exposing students to the Real World of Work
During the practicum placement, I had contributed to the activities of the workplace
and to meet the same demands of work production and responsibility by the organization of
its regular employees. This training is important because it can expose me to the real world of
work. So far I only see and know the environment, experience, and exposure of the world of
work through friends and family members. With this industrial training, I can be prepared to
enter the world of work with the experience I have while in the training place. The practicum,
however, is also a learning experience as its effectiveness will depend to a large degree upon
the extent to which I observe, evaluates, and question.
98
4.1.2 Looking at the Relationship between Theory Learned and Current Practical Work
If practical training is not practiced, it cannot be fully understood for all forms of
theory whether in any field whatsoever. Therefore, the activities or technical work available
in the organization can provide the existing technical skills. During my practical training, I
had learned to make a book cataloging, scan and do a cleaning on the five pages of the thesis,
pasting the security slip on the book, stamping the S logo on the book on which the security
slip has been pasted, rearrange the documents according to the month and others. I have also
produced five posters for advertising on PTAR‟s social media. In addition, work such as key
in metadata into the system, uploading materials in the system, I also do while working at
PTAR Shah Alam. This has given me a lot of experience related to these tasks.
4.1.3 Enhancing the Spirit of Honesty, Trust, and Responsibility
I also demonstrate my abilities and skills during training to be assessed by the
employer. All the tasks that have been entrusted to me are my responsibility to perform in the
form of training within the stipulated time frame. A sense of responsibility is very important
for every student, especially me, to help me perform a quality task. If all these traits are sown
and inculcated in oneself, then one is easy to gain trust from the employer. Although there
was one task that I did not have time to complete due to the time constraints coupled with too
many tasks, I have been honest with my employer about this. He had received my statement
well and he also said that he would continue my work which was not finished yet.
99
4.1.4 Expand communication Skills with Staff
During the industrial training, I have the opportunity to develop communication skills
with the staff for every department at Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak, Shah Alam.
Interacting with others in a working environment during the industrial training will facilitate
me to become a better communicator. The aspects of communication and soft skills such as
connect with officers even only through a virtual platform, present my tasks such as posters
to officers and they comment for the improvement, time management and discipline, and the
attitudes with others. Before undergoing industrial training, I had little contact with the
working community either in the private and government sectors. Therefore, this industry
training can expose me to the association with the working community whether subordinates
or superiors in an organization. All positive remarks I need to accept with respect and take as
a lesson.
4.1.5 Strengthen Self Confidence
Before industrial training, I was not confident in my ability to do any work. With this
industry training, I was able to strengthen my self-confidence. I am more confident when I
manage to produce posters according to my creativity and I am more confident when the
officials praise my results. Also, my confidence to communicate with all staff and officers
became better because, before this, I was a bit shy to communicate with the public.

4.2 PERSONAL THOUGHTS AND OPINION
My thoughts and opinion about the internship at Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Razak are
their working environment is very comfortable. The staffs are very friendly and kind-hearted
to me who am a practical student. When the first time I came to the organization, the staff
will greet and ask me which university I am from and they also wish me luck for the five
months working at their organization. Every time I came to work, I felt very happy and
excited to meet them because they gave me positive vibes. Some staff often gave me words
of advice. They are like my own family members. They showed respect to me even though I
was a practical student only. They do not look down on me and they are willing to help me in
any job. They also share their knowledge with me and I felt grateful because of their
willingness to teach me this deficiency. They still welcome questions and help from me.
Then, my relationships with all the staff are very good. Some staff was kind and
always asks me if I have a problem doing their task and they will guide me if I have a
problem with it. If I make a mistake, they are not going to scold me because they understand
that I am doing practical because to learn, and if I had mistaken, they will correct and teach
me correctly. I am very appreciating all the kindness of the staff at PTAR Shah Alam library
that always sharing new things and their working experience. With their experience, I can get
new knowledge and know them better. I respect all of them for a become very loyal and
supportive librarians.
101
4.3 LESSON LEARNT
The lesson that I learned from the internship is about how to apply the new
knowledge. To get new knowledge, I need to face the staff and learn from them. With the
new knowledge given, I learned that we should use and practice the knowledge so it will
become useful for me and the library. The knowledge that I had gained will also be applied in
my life to make it beneficial to others. In my experience, I was assigned to make a few
posters to be advertised on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Telegram, and
Website. Before this, I did not have the creativity on making a poster, but when I joined the
Corporate Communications Division, there have thought me how to make an interesting
poster, how to use SmartMockup and Canva for better editing. I became more confident and
believe that I can do the tasks.
Another lesson that I had learned during this internship is adaptability skills. During
my internship period, I was assigned to the five departments with their various units. At each
department, I had realized that I can adapt to their environment with the help and guidance of
librarians. For example, during my internship, there are many different things that I need to
learn and adapt to the tasks given. I manage to shelving and shelf reading the right way,
cataloging the books, learning how to scan thesis, do cleaning after scanning, pasting security
strips on book slits, stamping the S logo on books that have been pasted on security strips,
editing posters, key in metadata into the system and others. This all was enjoying the process
and is also a new knowledge to me.
Also, the lesson I learned was how to communicate with library officers when
working from home. When I get instructions to Work from Home, it is not an easy thing for
me because it is not the same as working in the office. If in the office, I can ask directly to the
102
officer if I do not know how to perform a given task. Then, the officer will directly guide me
no matter how many times I do not understand. But when working from home, it‟s a little
hard for me to ask the officers because we do not physically face to face. Sometimes officers
had to call me to guide me until I understood. I also felt like it was inconvenient for them
because they had to teach me over and over again. I appreciate the efforts of the officers who
have guided me despite not meeting physically.
103
4.4 LIMITATION AND RECOMMENDATION
One of the limitations of this organization is they don‟t have enough staff. Because of
this limitation, they can‟t finish their work on time. It involves work such as key in data
which I have also experienced during the key in data. For example, while I was in the
Organizational Administration Department, I was required to key in the data of the staff who
had joined the event named as Live Program@PTAR Series 5 “Floods and Diseases: Remote
Sensing Technology Applications & Mapping Innovations”. I key in the data in the system
about 1844 records. Even so, there is still a lot of staff data that has not been keyed in
because there are not enough hands to do it. I would like to recommend that PTAR Shah
Alam increase the number of new staff for administration work. This can help reduce the
burden of existing staff in carrying out the work.
Furthermore, there is no user guide for the use of the online digital database Local
Content Hub. This happened to me personally when the officer asked me to find information
regarding Chili Cultivation in the Local Content Hub but she did not guide me on how to find
information there. Then, I learned on my own by searching for the title in the space in the
Local Content Hub. I am fortunate to be able to search for information in the right way but
what I worry about is when students or users want to search for information there but are not
exposed to that way of use. This will make it difficult for them to get the material the right
way. Therefore, I suggest that PTAR Shah Alam must make a video tutorial on how to find
information in the Local Content Hub. The video must be included in the PTAR website
along with other Library Guide videos.
Lastly, I also found that there are some functions on the PTAR website that do not
work well. For example, when I want to open a topic on the PTAR website, it does not
104
display the content and the screen says that this site cannot be reached. I also found
something like this to happen when I use the Mobile App@PTAR. This means the system is
down but when I try repeatedly to access it, it is still the same as the system is down.
Therefore, I would like to suggest that PTAR can improve the system on the PTAR website
and also on the Mobile App@PTAR. This can encourage more users to access their searches
more easily and smoothly.
