WELCOME

Welcome! Bienvenue! Thank you for joining us at our 2022 Gala, Nuit
Magique.

Tonight is dedicated to the students and faculty of SDFAS, whose talents,
expertise, creativity, and imagination are highly valued and continually
fostered. Your generosity this evening will ensure that all of our current
and future students are given even more opportunities to expand their
curiosity, chase their dreams, and become further engaged with each
other and the world around them.

This year’s Fund-A-Need will again focus on high priority needs in the
areas of Campus, Programs, and People. Continuing to foster personal
growth as well as allowing our facility to grow as the world evolves and
technology advances, has been paramount to our success—especially in
the last few unprecedented years. This year, with the newly acquired
Montessori School of La Jolla space, we will be able to expand our
preschool to include new Kindergarten classrooms, as well as an
Exploration Zone. This will in turn free up space on the main campus to
allow for both a Creative Arts Space- a classroom for artistic expression,
and a Student Media Center dedicated to research, collaboration, and
literacy development. Professional Development, Financial Aid, and
Tuition Benefit for Faculty and Staff will also continue to be prioritized as
it is our people who make our school what it is today.

Thank you again for your attendance tonight. You have proven your
commitment to, and pride in, our organization. In this spirit, we hope that
you will consider giving generously. Doing so will enable us to support our
school and community so that we may continue to be as exceptional as
we are.

Nous vous souhaitons une très belle soirée. Now, it’s time to celebrate!

Magnum - Del Dotto St. Helena Mountain
Family Reserve 2013

Don’t miss this highly collectible bottle rated 98 points from the famed
Del Dotto Vineyards, a family-owned winery which focuses on small
production, premium wines.
Tasting Notes
Very earthy, with touches of black olive tapenade, blackberry and cas-
sis, the wine shows slightly more tannin than the Rutherford or Howell
Mountain, but is concentrated, full-bodied and truly first-growth quality.
This is young, but is locked and loaded with potential. Forget this for
3 or 4 years and drink it over the following 25 or more years. This is a
fabulous effort that will repay cellaring.
“2013 for many wineries in Napa and Sonoma has produced the finest
wines I have tasted in 37 years. One of the bright, shining stars of Napa
is David Del Dotto’s winery....there’s no question that the wines are of
impeccably high quality, and certainly world-class in every sense.”
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate.

FUND-A-NEED

Each year, the SDFAS Gala Fund-a-Need empowers the School to further
develop and sustain Next Level excellence. This year, the Fund-a-Need will
once again support high priority needs in Campus & Programs and People,
and we want to share with you how your generosity will benefit SDFAS.
CAMPUS & PROGRAMS
Through the support of our community families, the game-changing Ocean
View campus expansion in Summer 2020 made it possible for SDFAS to
accommodate all students for in-person learning during the pandemic. And
now, the newly-acquired Montessori School of La Jolla will offer SDFAS
another expansion opportunity when it opens later this summer.
This new campus corner – The Maternelle – will welcome our Kindergar-
ten classes and, in so doing, allow us to rethink and transform our spaces
schoolwide. By the start of the 2022-23 academic year, our students and
teachers will benefit from three, new purpose-designed, program-enhancing
campus elements: a Maternelle Exploration Zone, a Creative Arts Space,
and a Student Media Center.
Maternelle Exploration Zone
In the newly acquired buildings in The Maternelle, next to the new Kin-
dergarten classrooms, the Exploration Zone will afford all Preschool and
Kindergarten children the freedom to explore, experiment, and discover – at
their own pace and in their own way.

FUND-A-NEED

Creative Arts Space
On the main campus, our elementary and middle school students will be
inspired to explore the arts, discover their individual interests and passions,
and cultivate their “right-brain talent” within a sleek, new Creative Arts Space.
It will facilitate individual expression through an array of art forms and feature a
showcase of student work.

Student Media Center
A thoughtfully designed and exciting indoor-outdoor space will provide all mid-
dle and elementary students, and teachers a welcoming and easily accessible
extension to their classrooms conducive to research, collaboration, and literacy
development.

FUND-A-NEED

PEOPLE
Professional Development
To ensure that SDFAS recruits and retains a world-class faculty and staff, the
school must continue its commitment to professional development to support
cutting-edge pedagogy and the use of best practices. The ability to bolster
professional growth results in the best possible academic and social-emotional
learning outcomes for our children. Engaged teachers model lifelong learning,
mentor and inspire our children.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is critical in supporting our international and socio-economical-
ly diverse community. All SDFAS students benefit from exposure to a wide
range of family backgrounds and cultural perspectives which, in turn, enhance
open-mindedness, intellectual curiosity, and empathy. Given the significant
impacts of COVID-19 on many of our families, we are further compelled to pre-
serve the diversity of our community through financial aid. Our mission compels
us to make the excellence of an SDFAS education available to students regard-
less of their family financial constraints.

Tuition Benefit for Faculty & Staff
We must maintain our current level of tuition assistance for the children of
faculty and staff. The benefits support our diversity in the classroom and, as an
enticement in recruiting, gives the school an edge in attracting and retaining the
highest qualified teachers who are fully invested in the school’s mission.

With the help of every member of our community, the Fund-A-Need iwill em-
power SDFAS to further elevate the quality of the academic program, enhance
the student experience, and provide new and exciting opportunities for student
and faculty growth.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!
