When we talk about past jobs we only think about technological development that changed the way things were, like auto machine factories that replaced human hard work. But sometimes we need to look at the past to learn about the future. So we are about to present to you some information about jobs in the past; how they worked, who could execute their functions, and how they changed throughout the years and became what they are at the moment as we speak. Jobs are constantly changing due to technological development, but before all these machines and new techniques, humans were the ones who did all the hard work. In the past, people used to work manual work (which was way more difficult), it had different jobs for each one, gender jobs, color jobs, and all of this is mixed with the prejudice of the time. Black people couldn't work with white people, and women at the time couldn't even work because according to the society they were assigned to clean the house and take care of the children and the husband. Mentioning the topic of jobs that existed in the past we had Factory workers, Pin Boys, Data-entry clerks, Human alarm clock, Milkmen, Resurrectionists. Jobs overtime: Do you know enough? Written by Fernando Coelho and Nicolle Sara - Advanced Skills

Jumping into colored jobs we can notice that according to the 1900 United States Census, the majority of the African Americans in Berks County had occupations such as day laborers, head carriers, servants, furnace workers, domestics, stablemen, hotel cooks/chefs, bootblacks, farmers/farm workers, porters, hostlers, dressmakers, butlers, bricklayers, plasterers, railroad depot janitors, messengers, coachmen, stone masons, firemen, and cigar makers. So basically in US history, black people used to occupy hardworking jobs using more brute strength instead of using their intelligence.Showing how they were unnoticed by society and not having the same opportunities as white Americans at that time. Now traveling to Brazil, there were some jobs that only black people could do. Like domestic work and factory work. When we talk about that country, we can see that black people really suffered throughout time being enslaved and after that facing a lot of racism and bad employee service. If we analyze all those jobs we mentioned we can clearly see that they have all developed and changed because of technology. Being more automated and as a consequence easier to execute. That is why I strongly believe that sometimes the story repeats itself and if we pay enough attention to our surroundings this is all happening again but slightly different and more complex.

As an undeveloped country, Brazil always had an extractivist economy, and, as a consequence, had a late industrialization, so the use of brute strength was crucial for success; the solution that the farmers found at that time was using black people to do the hard work for them. Causing a really bad impact on the future making it really hard for black people to have the same opportunities as the others. After all these ideas and opinions that complete each other, we can conclude that jobs in the past are different from the ones nowadays. To summarize, it is correct to say that jobs in the past changed mostly because of the evolution of humans, not only technology. Nowadays we don't have color jobs and gender jobs anymore, the prejudice that existed before is smaller and society is changing for good. And with the help of the government investing in education not only will society grow better the jobs will still develop and change.

Trapped on Mars In 2500, the people of planet Earth obtained technology to go to other planets, the first planet to be tested would be the planet Mars, for that they needed 3 people who would agree to go. These people are me (the NASA commander), Juliana (a skilled astronaut) and Carlos (an experienced scientist). Now we are here in the middle of space on our way to Mars,I love working with space. It is the most wonderful thing a human being can witness. Everything was peaceful and calm but a comet hit our ship and everything went dark. We woke up in a stranger's house. My 2 partners were on the side looking at me with worried faces. I soon discovered that I had been unconscious for 3 days because of the fall, but at least we managed to get to Mars. They told me that we were trapped on this planet, Carlos even tried to repair the ship but it didn't work. I've been stuck on this planet for 2 long years, waiting for some miracle so we can escape, hopefully Carlos can fix it. But after so long I no longer have hope. 7 Curiosity Pill Written by Marina Pitta - Pre-intermediate SHORT STORIES

THE BIZARRE STORY ABOUT MERSISMITH-MDA Some beings live in Mersismith-mda, but no one knows and we don't know and someone will know, maybe the area 51? The unique information that we humans have and that it does have life because they sent a supertechnological ship to capture some kind of sound and they succeeded. They sent this device along with a ship of 5 people and what they heard were terrible noises like cries, screams, and noises resembling gunshots. We got this information because of a former employee who leaked the audio. Naseem (the company that took the device) never commented on this matter. There are many, many theories of what could have happened, but the most striking is that the beings there killed them, thinking that they were some kind of threat, well the most bizarre thing is that this was recent and the company is already thinking about doing more experiments with this planet. 7 Curiosity Pill SHORT STORIES Written by Gabriela Carvalho - Pre-intermediate

THE BIZARRE STORY ABOUT HYPERBOLSCOSMIC Many light-years ago, at the farthest edge of the galaxy, there was a planet called Hyperbolicosmic. This planet is a true mystery, a place where the laws of physics and logic are challenged every day. Hyperbolicosmic is a planet that defies any attempt at understanding. Its surface is a mix of chaotic elements and landscapes that seem to have come from a crazy dream. Mountains float in the air like giant balloons, while oceans of luminescent liquid change color with the planet's mood. Sometimes it's angry, and sometimes it's happy. The forests are composed of trees that grow both upwards and downwards at the same time. The inhabitants of Hyperbolicosmic are equally strange beings. They have the ability to see the future and the past at the same time, making their conversations almost unimaginable for visitors trying to comprehend. They live in houses that are bigger on the outside than on the inside. Curiosity Pill SHORT STORIES Written by Gabriela Carvalho - Pre-intermediate

One day, a company called Astrospace arrived at Hyperbolicosmic with their 5 astronauts in search of answers to the mysteries of the planet. Initially, they were confused and disconcerted by the planet's oddities, but gradually, they began to appreciate the beauty of the place. And so, the travelers left Hyperbolicosmic with a heart full of gratitude and an open mind, carrying with them the lessons they had learned during their time on the enigmatic planet. THE END. The Mummy on Earth On a very haunted night, with thunderstorms, rain, and very strong wind. There was a house in the middle of nowhere, all poorly built, broken windows, poorly finished paint, lots of bats flying over the roof... Minutes later a family arrives, but when they arrive there, there is a reflection of a mummy, all scary, dirty with dirt/mud, who was holding a knife in her hand, at the same moment lightning struck near the house and lit up the mummy... Entering the house, the family went to take a closer look at this nightmare, and when they arrived at the little kitchen... They saw a mummy buttering bread for her to eat. And as the mummy was polite, she offered a piece to each member of the family. The family was relieved because it wasn't a mummy wanting to kill them, but even so, they didn't accept the piece of bread that the mummy offered. So they became best friends. 7 Curiosity Pill SHORT STORIES Written by Julia Akemi - Pre-intermediate

The death two scientists were studying a planet called b4b56 this planet has a terrestrial gas level of 19|20 a measure created by them, although that gas was survivable, there was a monster the size of a large plane. This monster ripped apart in seconds. But they ignored this and left in the direction of the planet. Arriving there they were happy because they managed to arrive after years. After 10 days, the monster found them and killed them and the monster grew in size 10 times and left towards the earth. He destroyed the earth; the only survivors were those on the moon. KEPLER 16b Kepler 16b is a very strange planet compared to our planet. This planet was created millions of years ago by a very famous scientist named Isaac Newton. He created this planet with the intention of exploring his knowledge but he crossed the line a bit. He created some really crazy things like people. People on this crazy planet are unlike us, kind of upside down, besides walking with their hands and brushing their teeth without a toothbrush and toothpaste, but with iron and garlic paste with onions. This is crazy! On this planet, they are extremely nice and smart. There they are not offended, on the contrary, they praise and help each other, in addition to all taking 10 in the tests. Legend has it that if anyone scores below 10 they are transferred to another planet and killed. Curiosity Pill SHORT STORIES Written by Felipe Paiva - Pre-intermediate

Jafar the Historian Once upon a time, there was a very distant planet, it was called TrEs-2b, the planet of eternal night. The darkest planet ever discovered orbiting a star! On this planet, there was a wellknown historian, his name was Jafar. He went to explore a newly discovered pyramid on this planet. When he arrived he saw that it was very old, older than any other. Jafar entered the passage and wrote on the walls the story of a pharaoh, there was a tomb written Alladin, the Great Pharaoh. Jafár opened the tomb and a mummy came out saying that it would chase him to death for waking it up. Jafár ran, ran a lot. But he wasn't fast enough. The mummy took Jafar to his tomb, opened a false floor and threw him into a well. After doing it, the mummy lay down in his grave and went back to sleep waiting for his next victim to arrive. 7 Curiosity Pill SHORT STORIES Written by Juliana Lima - Pre-intermediate

55 Cancri e One day, a scientist called Hércules was studying space and looking in his telescope, he saw a new planet that looked like the sun. Hercules spent 15 years of his life obsessively studying about that planet and trying to find a way to reach the planet. He discovered that the planet was created in a sun explosion that happened 1 million years ago. He decided to name the planet 55 Cancri e. After that time, he called two friends who were astronauts, Chris and Peter, to test his rocket and go to 55 Cancri. Chris was a renowned astronaut, he did something like 10, (yes, i said 10!) trips to the moon, and nothing less than Elon Musk called him to go on the first trip to Mars! Peter was a novice astronaut but he did 5 trips to space with his father, including one that he did with 3,( yes, 3!) years old. When the day to go to the planet came, Chris and Pitter boarded the rocket and it was sent into orbit: “Chris, what do you think the planet is going to be like?” asked Peter. ”I think that the planet is going to be like the sun, so hot and with lots of lava,” answered Chris. “It's a possibility, but I think the planet is going to be like the Earth, with human life and lots of water,” said Peter. When the rocket was arriving at the planet, the astronauts started to feel warm: “Chris, I think you are right, it's so hot!” affirmed Peter. “Yes, the temperature is 200 degrees Celsius.” completed Chris. After 2 days in space, the rocket finally landed on the 55 Cancri e, the astronauts looked out of the rocket, they noticed that the planet was an ocean of lava, so they decided to come back to Earth but when they turned the rocket on the system was burned and after a second, the rocket sank in the lava: “HELP MEEEEE!”, “SOMEONE HELP ME!”, “I AM BURNING, HELP!”... said the astronauts They screamed a lot but on the planet didn’t have anyone to help, even the lava couldn’t help them survive, soo….. they died. Do you think jobs remained the same as they were after the pandemic? The pandemic hit us really hard, tons of people lost their jobs, and the average number of people who were jobless was more than 255 million, just in 2020. Suddenly, something significant happened and changed the path that the world was going in artificial intelligence. Systems that act like humans; a field that combines computer science and robust datasets, to enable problem-solving. But there is a problem. Are they stealing people's jobs? The pandemic really interfered in people's lives. Since the beginning of 2020, when the covid-19 started spreading all over the East, and posteriorly infecting the whole world, the mídia and the companies had to rearrange their methods and, at the same time develop new tools to continue their productivity. The whole world suddenly suffered several changes suddenly, many businesses faced closures or reduced productivity. During the COVID-19, companies had to take a new measure: home office. pandemic, AIs and digital influencers Written by Catarina de Aquino and João Augusto Bamberg - Advanced Skills

A way you could work in your own home, doing your job on your cell phone, or on any electronic device, connecting meetings, doing work, also creating files to show your coworkers, in a meeting with people all around the world, as we know people couldn’t leave their houses too soon. Besides, some jobs were normally online, so for those who already did them, there was no problem, they had even more advantages. But in physical jobs, where the person is required, this prejudiced and disrupted labor markets and jobs globally. The most demanding jobs had changed after the pandemic. In 2020, after the lockdown of every company, remote jobs gained almost total power. According to Forbes, a global media company, the present, the health area has claimed the fastestgrowing career over the decade, but companies are tending to search for data scientists, with the objective of searching and upgrading in Artificial Intelligence. Industries and companies had to fire employees to save resources and closed many affiliates around the world.

Although the pandemic started a process of unemployment, it gave reasons for the development of virtual tools of communication. Technology was able to evolve and many specialists had their professional skills valued since they were responsible for making available a whole new wave of applications and websites for companies to maintain the flow. The I.T. students had new objectives to improve their studies, also, some of the graduated experts saw in the quarantine an opportunity to grow in their careers, by setting up brands based on online applications, for example, for schools to use in teaching and organizing schedules. The future is constantly changing, as tools also increase and upgrade in order to adjust the defaults that could be possibly causing some problems to the people at that time. McKinsey, a global management consulting firm, conducted research that happened from April 11 to 21, 2023, where he collected responses from companies and 1,684 participants representing the full range of regions, industries, company sizes, functional specialties, and tenures. AIs are seen as a tool that is “stealing jobs”, as we all know that they are capable of creating high-quality images and long 3D animated videos, writing essays, doing math equations in less than a second, and being known to take raw data and “learn” from it. (Raw or source data is the data that hasn't been processed for use.) They can develop their own knowledge and are used in things such as when you order a pizza to chat with a bot.

Even with those skills, there are jobs that they can't substitute yet. There are some skills that even with the “substitution” of AI in society, they couldn’t change. However, this could be contradictory if we talk about robots. For example, in August, from 16 to 22, China held an event named World Robot Conference. In this event, we saw how technology can substitute human aspects. One of the robots that were in the exhibition was CyberOne, from Xiaomi. CyberOne is an emotion-detecting humanoid robot with 170 centimeters tall and weighing 52 kg, it can achieve full human movement simulation with its 21 degrees of freedom of motion. According to Xiaomi, CyberOne can recognize 85 types of environmental sounds and identify up to 45 classifications of human emotions. Xiaomi plans to use this robot in manufacturing jobs. It is supposed to work on manual and causative jobs that we humans need to do. This shows us Robots and AIs are capable of doing things humans couldn’t do. But, who is winning with this? Is it the humans? Or on the contrary, is it prejudicing them?

This is an incredible example to show how new online equipments, or digital tools (often used for management) are influencing so much in the job market these days. Hospitals and labs were pretty much overloaded of demand, home office was a new reality, and establishments where it can get really crowded had to adapt to attending online, such as restaurants opting for delivery service, and schools for online meetings and virtual test applications. But helping to set up a schedule was an easy thing for an AI, helping in the results of mixed ingredients was also an easy job for an AI. But not everything is an ocean of roses. Looking to the other side of the coin, economists shared a rate of massive unemployment caused by many factors, such as the investment cuts that companies applied, or people getting ill. The whole world was going through a crisis. Naturally, the shortage of workers is followed by a rising appreciation upon employees. Also, since the pandemic, minorities could ente r the job market more easily, people with disabilities had been seeking work through many years and now they’ve experienced the greatest opportunity to get hired over generations. People are afraid of losing or becoming unemployed; as it is known everything revolves around money nowadays. But, there is a career that was really useful during the pandemic, when the ones that lost their jobs found a way to get money without using so much money: digital influencers. This is a job that almost doesn't require you to show your face, or for you to have a specific time to start and to end. Those people are often contracted to give emphasis to your product, and they will convince you why this product is “necessary” to you, but in fact, they are tricking you while they win money over the purchases you were influenced by. Digital influencers appear really often on Instagram. Have you ever seen someone saying how that one product (for example, an accessory) is better, 100% healthy, more resistant, and different from the others? This is the job of digital influencers. Announce that product in order for you to buy it, and she will win money from your purchase. In summary, the world has changed a lot in the last three years. The pandemic brought suffering, economic crisis, overloaded hospitals, and many victims, followed by a new perspective on technology, a high development in communication and globalization, and a massive demand for employment. Digital influencers will continue to grow in platforms and get more recognition, maybe, with the help of Artificial Intelligence: a brand new technology people have searched, enhanced, and refined over the years, which has the potential to change all we know about politics, professions and economy forever. After all, data scientists are the profession of the future, which will probably be the most searched in a while. What could happen in the future?

“The best way to predict the future is to create it”. What does that quote really mean anyway? On one hand, that phrase, said by the 16th president of the USA, Abraham Lincoln, talks about persistence and determination, needed skills to build the future of human society. But on the other hand, that quote can also show us that the future is not something predestined, but, in fact, consequences of past events. The advent of technology and AI, globalization, the creation of the virtual environment, and its importance for the population, everything impacts what will happen in the future, that’s why knowing this is the best way to predict the future. As well, of course, when we talk about jobs of the future. JOBS OF THE FUTURE Written by Daniel Ataide and Luiz Guilherme Gaudenzi Advanced Skills

A very plausible fact that most of the researchers agree about this topic, is that the jobs that will be more popular in the future do not exist yet. There are many professions that will still be created, based on the circumstances and situations that we ’ll have to deal with by then. But, on the other hand, some other jobs already exist and will remain in vogue and some will join them. Some of them are engineers, Influencers, Coaches, Physiological helpers, cybersecurity experts, White hat hackers, Grey hat hackers, agronomists, and Care Workers. Remember that talking about this is talking about possibilities. As the quote of Abraham Lincoln said, the future can change depending on how the events will flow and other jobs may lose their place, as well as some may improve. WHICH JOBS WILL BECOME MORE POPULAR?

Many professions are being created for the advancement of technology, as well as some others are rising because of that. Professionals are being more and more requested to have the ability with technology, and, of course, they must be the ones to create it, regulate it, and teach how to use and fix it. Also, the improvement of the lifetime of humanity, and the amount of people over 75 years old, are the main causes of the need for more care workers, medical professionals, and agronomists, with the need for more food supply for a bigger world population. We can say the same for entertainment professionals such as artists and influencers, which will be very requested and valorized, especially when we talk about the virtual environment. But, keep in mind what was said before, those are theories based on today's situation, assuming things will remain with the same rhythm, but they can always change the course, as the sea can change from a chaotic turbulent to a so peaceful calm flow that some people may even mistake it as a giant lake. WHY SOME JOBS HAVE MORE PROBABILITY TO IMPROVE?

The problem with people whose condition does not let contact with technology is not simple or easy to handle. Considering robots with AI would have already taken the production and industrial sectors, jobs such as engineers, cargo airplane drivers, cargo truck drivers, machine operators in lumbers, mechanics, etc simply won’t exist anymore, generating a huge loss for people who can’t afford a computer or a cellphone. We can see that this will happen as we look back to the jobs that also disappeared over time because of the advent of technology, such as projectionists, lamplighters, scribes, etc. AI will have also taken the selling and economy systems from all over the world, so cashiers, telemarketing, and others will not be present anymore, a human attending another human in a grocery store will become a less common image. The more practical forms of medicine are also going to become extinct, such as doctors, dentists surgeons, and many more, since even nowadays some of them are being replaced by machines with AI that are capable of locating, recognizing and solving the issue before humans even start thinking about what is actually happening with the patient WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER JOBS, WHAT HAPPENS TO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY?

Even nowadays, obesity and sedentaryism are considered major problems. In the future, health conditions are going to be not only concerning and extremely worrying but also fairly common unless we prevent it. Another problem is the mental illness issue, without the need to communicate, humans simply won’t do so, this is going to be very damaging to society and may cause a significant problem in people’s lives, especially more socially induced people. How would you feel if you were trapped in a box with more than enough resources for survival and even comfort, but completely alone and having no contact with the outside world? Another problem that frightens the future world is a crime, and we can see this in not just research but also forms of media such as “Cyberpunk 2077”, a game about a future where crime has completely taken over everything and there’s no such thing as morals or social-justice, or the “Blade Runner” movie series, with a similar view on the future. Poor countries would become great hubs for crime networks and criminal activity. WHAT ABOUT THE SOCIETYRELATED PROBLEMS ?

A lot of value will probably be given to mental health-related jobs, so their area’s salary or medium profit would be around 15,000 dollars per month. Technology professionals, who will be the base and foundation of the future society will have at least 25,000 per month since they’re a very important part of the community. Technology influencers such as tik-tokers, Instagrammers, YouTubers, streamers, etc are not going to have a fixed monthly salary, but it is sure that they will profit way more than they already do, which is not at all good since they are horrible examples for children and advertise a way of life that consists on literally gambling your life and your future for fame. AN intersection of words and worlds The world is constantly changing to meet human needs. This movement causes new professions to be created, while others end up disappearing. Since the beginning of human history, man moved towards a more practical life, so hunting tools, for example, began to appear and were being perfected, in addition to which new inventions began to emerge, as well. As said before, every profession is created to meet a demand from society. If there is no demand for an area of expertise, it ceases to make sense or needs to adapt. To keep up with this evolution, many people are changing careers. According to this situation, many professions that will be mentioned in the next text no longer exist or are close to not existing. Due to new needs and creations, several professions no longer exist, such as instant-taking photographers and newsboys. Nowadays and in the future, technology is the protagonist when talking about professions. A survey carried out in Brazil by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) and the University of Brasília (UnB) shows that 30 million jobs with a formal contract could be closed by 2026, if all companies in the country decide to replace human workers with technology already available. There is no need to be afraid of robots, but it's worth keeping an eye on what's new and always updating. Some jobs, for example, only existed during a certain time and others were eliminated because of the advance of technology at the same time. World War II (1939-1945) made hundreds of professions emerge that today don’t make any sense. Blacksmith, Crystal Grinder, and Airplane Woodworker are some examples.

Also, since the pandemic, minorities could ente r the job market more easily, people with disabilities had been seeking work through many years and now they’ve experienced the greatest opportunity to get hired over generations. Nowadays, technology has affected a lot of jobs. With its advances, a lot of professions are based on them, and some are eliminated too. Influencers started to emerge, because of the high consumption of the internet by people, mainly teenagers. Digital influencers took advantage of all the visibility that the internet and social networks gained to start producing content, such as makeup, fashion, cars, video games, studies, and many others, and then, people began to identify themselves and actually watch the content. Influencers are opinion leader, through their posts they awaken thoughts and behaviors in their audience. Furthermore, companies use and pay these people to do marketing with their products and influence people to buy them by giving their opinions. Another piece of news is artificial intelligence (AI). AI is a technological advancement that allows systems to simulate human-like intelligence. It actually influences a lot in the workplace, representing a huge revolution in the economic and professional scenario in the present. If, on the one hand, it brings with it a series of challenges for the workplace, on the other, it offers significant opportunities for those looking to enter this exponentially growing field. There is also a growing demand for experts capable of creating and improving AI algorithms and models to solve complex problems in diverse areas, from healthcare to finance.

Also, since the pandemic, minorities could ente r the job market more easily, people with disabilities had been seeking work through many years and now they’ve experienced the greatest opportunity to get hired over generations. A last fact is the pandemic of Covid-19. The effects of the pandemic vary widely and include direct effects on the economy, investments, and jobs. Challenges and barriers have marked the workplace in recent years. Mass layoffs, new and urgent demands, declining professions, and a lack of professionals were some of the biggest impacts recorded at the height of the pandemic. Moreover, it drastically affected workers with less social protection and low education. The need for social distancing resulting from the pandemic has extraordinarily accelerated the adoption of remote work modalities. Estimates cited in a study, based on interviews with employers in the United States, indicate that the proportion of days worked at home is expected to triple after the pandemic. This projection applies mainly to the group of highly qualified workers, whose work can be done remotely without loss of productivity. On the other hand, lower-skilled workers in personal services sectors, such as accommodation, food, and passenger transport, will be negatively affected by the drop in demand resulting from the relocation of part of productive activity from offices to homes. There are countless opportunities emerging amid the crisis, especially in areas such as technology, health, and finance. Many companies have revamped themselves and opened even more doors. There is also a great advance in distance learning and professional courses available on the internet for you to further improve your skills. A new year has arrived and pandemic care continues, however, with the hope of improvements with the arrival of the vaccine. Experts in the labor market area foresee very significant changes following the new coronavirus pandemic.
