47 After achieving another remarkable season with a total of 14 wins and collecting her fifth overall World Cup globe at the Finals at Soldeu, Andorra, US star Mikaela Shiffrin is looking forward to do what she likes the most in her life – skiing and racing! The 28-year-old American has trained as hard as usual to prepare her thirteenth World Cup season with the intention to enjoy is as much as possible. This winter she can again compete without feeling the pressure to fight for a new record of victories on the tour - just feeling free to move at her limits as often and well as possible. But for sure, last season has been very special for Shiffrin, especially the last weeks in Sweden after clinching another FIS gold medal in giant slalom at the World Championships at Meribel. One prominent fan was particularly happy on March 11th- 2023, when she broke Ingemar Stenmark’s 34 year-old record of 86 World Cup wins. Stenmark himself, watching on television from his home in Stockholm, was ecstatic. He had been looking forward to that day for a special reason... “Finally, I won‘t be troubled again about this overall record - hopefully for the rest of my life,” the now reclusive Swede had told one of his friends and former rival from Italy earlier in the season. With that level of skill, Stenmark predicts that Shiffrin, who may race till the 2026 Olympics at Cortina d’Ampezzo, will reach 100 wins. In fact, during the Finals in Andorra, Mikaela already scored her 88th win – only 12 short from that amazing number! Yet there is much more to admire in her! Shiffrin’s articulate personality has illuminated the World Cup circuit for the past twelve years. Search Youtube for her sound-bites and video interviews, and you get a sense of what she openly shares with competitors, friends, coaches and reporters: the highlights and upsets, the joys and sorrows, the life lessons, the tragedies and rebounds. While many racers often mouth platitudes in interviews, Shiffrin’s instinct is to open her heart and speak frankly, with self-aware intelligence. This was particularly poignant after the sudden death of her father, Jeff, in early February 2020. Mikaela wrote of her family’s heartbreak, referring to him as “our mountains, our ocean, our sunrise, our heart, our soul.” She is nowadays also very open about relationships, notably with hunky Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, 30, the 2020 overall World Cup champion and top speed specialist. The 2023 stage on San Vigilio’s Erta slope was once more a highlight for the skier from nearby Vail, in Colorado, who dominated both races on her way to set a new best mark on the women’s tour with her 83rd victory on Tuesday, one more than her former teammate Lindsey Vonn. “What a day, tough to say how I feel, in fact I don’t know if there are words to describe it, there are so many emotions during the day,” she said with a smile. “It’s hard to sum it up in words. To win here is always something special for sure. It’s a tough hill but the conditions were perfect for me. I am having a lot of fun racing giant slalom this season,” she added. In fact, she sent on capturing all the remaining GS races that season, including at Meribel in February, during the FIS World Championships. In the evening, chief of race Danny Kastlunger surprised her with a huge bouquet of 83 roses during the award ceremony, a very touching moment for her. “It was really nice to receive these beautiful flowers,” Mikaela explained afterwards. Photos of that emotional moments were also seen later on by passers-by at Time Square, NYC, to celebrate that special day! Shiffrin dislikes the word “record.” It first came up in December 2018 at Semmering, near Vienna, after her 36th slalom win. She was embarrassed at being told this was one more than than the slalom victories of her childhood hero Marlies Schild, “Marlies, for me, is always going to be the best,” Shiffrin said. “I wouldn’t be where I am without being able to watch her... yeah, (the record) is incredible, but she deserves that spot in my mind. If I can inspire any young athlete as much as she inspired me, then I did my job in this sport. INDEX 01 In Åre, after passing Stenmark’s score, a Swedish TV reporter asked what she would like to say to Ingemar. “Not too crazy for records, it should never be happening,” she began. “I never believed someday I would be on this position, it’s pretty incomprehensible. No matter what ever I do, it will never be compared to what you achieved in your life. The biggest dream for me is to be mentioned in the same sentence as you after your very inspiring career.” She explained that she had been exchanging text-messages with the Swedish star and felt honored by some of his comments. She’s also uncomfortable about being called the GOAT. “All I can really see in my mind is an image of a baby goat, or like a fainting goat. That‘s what comes in my head,” Shiffrin said once. “I just kind of laugh.” She added that the label doesn‘t belong to just one skier. Shiffrin’s modesty, humanity and good-humored sincerity were forged by her parents, Jeff and Eileen Shiffrin. The family mantra was “Be nice, think first, have fun . . . and make a few good turns.” It’s not surprising that her priorities created sympathy among top champions from other sports. In 2021, Shiffrin tweeted strong support for US legend gymnast Simone Biles, who was subjected to a hate campaign after skipping several competitions following an attack of “twisties” and moments of doubts during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Seven months later, when disaster struck on the frozen Chinese snow during her 2022 Winter Olympics, Shiffrin faced the same kind of hideous hate messages on social media. She didn’t run away from reporters, and gave sincere - often poignant - answers when trying to explain what was happening on the courses and in her mind. Biles reached out to help, writing “I know this all too well, I‘m sorry you‘re experiencing this, people suck. Just remember how AMAZING you are, we‘re all cheering for you, proud of you, love & support you. Go kick some ass Saturday! But most importantly, embrace the moment. Have fun (heart) love ya!!!” Many friends and celebrities like Kate Winslet or Roger Federer also sent her messages of congratulations after her historical win at Are 2023 -which nearly made her flush. “It meant a lot for many people including me of course, at the end it put some extra pressure on me, but there are other important things that made that day so special to me,” she also explained after her amazing slalom race that she captured with an advance of nearly a full second. “It was so fun to race ... .One of my best slaloms ever. Then I saw those people coming to me after my arrival, I was wondering who it was until I recognized my brother Taylor and his wife Christine….It was so cool to celebrate this great day with my family, it’ll remain a strong memory for me. It truly was a dream season for me, I did not expect it.” „After all these years racing and getting to this point now, I realize no matter what I accomplish, people root for who they want to win — for whatever reason,“ she said. „It could be something that doesn‘t have anything to do with me, or doesn‘t have anything to do with Ingemar [Stenmark], or Lindsey [Vonn], Marcel [Hirscher], or Bode [Miller], or whoever. It is a personal thing, and that‘s what is so beautiful about sport.“ Colorado Governor Jared Polis declared March 11 “Mikaela Shiffrin Day.” In early April, Vail threw a huge welcome-home party. She was overwhelmed by the empathy shown by the public, especially the younger kids, whom she hopes to have inspired by her attitude and her “few good turns.” Mikaela’s numerous fans and supporters hope now that she’ll continue racing till the Winter Olympics at Cortina d’Ampezzo few weeks before turning 31 in March 2026! Many of them - as well as representatives of the media - anticipate her now to soon approach the incredible limit of 100 World Cup wins. 61 Era il 26 gennaio del lontano 1946 quando i nostri pionieri diedero forma ufficiale e fondarono lo Sci Club San Vigilio. Lo Sci Club San Vigilio si classifica come terzo Sci Club ufficiale a livello provinciale e a livello nazionale si posiziona all’ottavo posto. Il logo scelto a suo tempo come anche i colori “nero-verde-bianco” che lo rappresentano sono da sempre rimasti invariati e continuano tuttoggi a distinguere la nostra associazione, i nostri soci ed in prima linea i nostri giovani atleti. Da 75 anni l’obiettivo primario è quello di avvicinare i nostri giovani atleti allo sport dello sci, sia a livello amatoriale che agonistico, favorendo al contempo la socializzazione fra di loro come anche l’ identificazione ed il rispetto per il nostro territorio. Sin dalla nascita il nostro Sci Club è stato la culla per varie generazioni di appassionati dello sport invernale ed ha contribuito a far nascere ed accompagnare sul faticoso ed impegnativo percorso agonistico diversi atleti di successo. I fratelli Manfred e Manuela Mölgg ne sono un esempio concreto. Es war der 26. Januar 1946, als unsere Pioniere den Skiclub St. Vigil gründeten. Der Skiclub San Vigilio ist der dritte offizielle Skiclub auf Landesebene und auf nationaler Ebene der Achte. Das damals gewählte Logo sowie die dafür repräsentativen „Schwarz-Grün-Weiß“-Farben sind stets unverändert geblieben und zeichnen unseren Verein, unsere Mitglieder und unsere Nachwuchssportler nach wie vor aus. Seit 75 Jahren besteht das Hauptziel darin, unseren jungen Sportlern den Skisport näher zu bringen, sowohl auf Amateur- als auch auf Wettkampfebene, und gleichzeitig die Sozialisation zwischen ihnen sowie die Identifikation und den Respekt für unser Territorium zu fördern. Seit seiner Gründung ist unser Skiclub die Wiege für mehrere Generationen von Wintersportlern und hat auf dem anspruchsvollen Wettkampfweg mehrere erfolgreiche Sportler hervorgebracht und begleitet. Il belvedere „Dolomites“ si affaccia sul panorama mozzafiato delle Dolomiti, dichiarate nel 2009 Patrimonio mondiale dell’UNESCO. Milioni e milioni di anni fa, dove oggi si ergono le Dolomiti si estendeva una vasta pianura che, col passare dei secoli, divenne poi un mare tropicale con atolli e vulcani. Qui l’azione degli organismi viventi e l’accumulo di sedimenti diedero vita a imponenti barriere coralline su cui si depositarono a più riprese i materiali risultanti dall’intensa attività vulcanica. Il tempo e la pressione trasformarono infine quei sedimenti in pietra. Successivamente, lo scontro tra la placca continentale africana e quella europea fece emergere quelli che oggi vengono chiamati “monti pallidi”. Grandi porzioni di roccia si sovrapposero e si ripiegarono le une sulle altre. Furono poi le diverse velocità di erosione dei vari strati rocciosi a conferire alle Dolomiti il loro inconfondibile aspetto. Der Aussichtspunkt Dolomites blickt auf die im Jahr 2009 zum UNESCO Weltnaturerbe ernannten Dolomiten. Die Aussicht ist einmalig. Vor vielen Millionen Jahren war an der Stelle der Dolomiten eine weite Ebene, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte zu einem tropischen Meer mit Atollen und Vulkanen entwickelte. In diesem Meer entstanden hohe Korallenriffe, die von Organismen und durch Sedimente gebildet wurden. Durch die intensive vulkanische Tätigkeit lagerte sich auch immer wieder vulkanisches Material zwischen und über den Riffen ab. Mit der Zeit und unter hohem Druck wurden dann die Sedimente zu Stein. Als die afrikanische Kontinentalplatte gegen die europäische drängte, wurden die bleichen Berge angehoben. Große Gesteinspakete schoben sich übereinander und legten sich in Falten. Ihr typisches Aussehen erhielten die Dolomiten anschließend durch den Verwitterungsprozess, da die verschiedenen Gesteinsschichten unterschiedlich schnell abgetragen wurden. Extraordinary peaks of all shapes and sizes, vast plateaus, naturally carved waterways, deep forests lining lush green meadows and pastures – the Dolomites owe their rugged magic to countless complex processes and changes in our environment. The “Dolomites” viewpoint overlooks parts of this stunning range, which in 2009 was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Brace yourselves for jaw-dropping vistas. Many million years ago, the site was nothing but a vast plain. Over the course of the centuries, these flatlands developed into a tropical sea dotted with atolls and volcanoes, in which a multitude of organisms and sediments formed tall coral reefs. As a result of intense volcanic activity, vast amounts of igneous materials were repeatedly deposited between and on top of the reefs. Over time and under immense pressure, these sediments eventually turned to stone. The Dolomites were formed when the African continental plate pushed against the Eurasian one, causing large masses of rock to be uplifted, slide on top of each other and fold. Their characteristic look is derived from countless weathering processes, during which the different layers of rock were eroded at differing speeds.
