IMPLEMENTATION The teacher shows some fresh cold milk and some spoilt milk. The pupils are asked to name the characteristics of both fresh milk and spoilt milk. The teacher explains why milk needs to be refrigerated: o to prevent bacteria from growing, which ensures the milk stays fresh o milk that has been exposed to bacteria can cause food poisoning. IMPLEMENTATION The teacher tells the pupils they will be making a chef’s hat. Before the activity begins, the teacher explains the importance of having proper head covering when preparing food. Each pupil is given a white piece of paper with predrawn lines. The pupils cut the paper along the lines on the paper. Ask them to shake hands with friends, touch their books, pencils, desks and chairs nearby. Lastly, look at the result – the teacher helps the pupils to find traces of flour on each other’s hands (from handshake), their books/stationery and all the places they touched. IMPLEMENTATION The teacher tries out a game of hygiene charades. The teacher plays the music and asks the pupils to pass along the mystery box, one to another. When the music stops, the pupil holding the box must pick one card from the mystery box, which contains cards depicting different personal hygiene practices. After the pupil picks a card, that pupil acts it out while other pupils guess at what the hygiene practice is. Afterwards, allow your pupil to reveal the charades answer and briefly explain that personal hygiene practice so that other pupils learn how to be hygienic. Create 6 picture cards depicting a variety of good and bad hygiene habits, including: o Flossing your teeth. o Not washing your hands after going to the bathroom. o Sneezing into your elbow. o Rubbing heads with other kids. o Washing your hands before eating. o Wearing dirty socks. The teacher asks the pupils to count themselves, one by one, from 1 to 10. Allow the pupils (the teacher calls out numbers) to take turns to pick out one card and decide whether to place that card in a location labelled “good habit” or “bad habit”. The teacher asks the pupils to choose a housing type that looks like their own from the picture. The pupils choose a housing type that looks like their own. IMPLEMENTATION The teacher shows the pupils heart-shaped cards, and gives each pupil one card. The teacher helps the pupils write down their best friend’s name on the card. The teacher shows the lyrics of a song and leads the pupils in singing the song (below). The pupils show their card to their friend and sing to the melody of Happy Birthday.
