112 7.2 International STEM & Innovation virtual Colloquia Series (ISICS) 2022 The lack of interest and motivation among students in the field of Science –Technology – Engineering – Mathematics (STEM) is now becoming a global issue with Malaysia as no exception. This has caused quite an impact not only at the school level but at the university level as well. This can be seen from the decline in the number of students’ intake to the university in STEM-related studies, where the numbers are unable to fulfill the projections made by the universities. If this trend continues, it will ultimately affect the country's human capital in the future. Therefore, the university needs to play an active role in assisting the schools and education department in increasing the interests and motivations among the students to pursue STEM studies. The UniMAP International STEM & Innovation Virtual Colloquia Series (ISICS) will serve as a platform for knowledge and expertise sharing in STEM by world-renowned scientists and technologists. It is hoped that this colloquia series will make the students see the beauty of STEM through real-life experiences and scientific discoveries delivered by the invited speakers. The ISICS program will be held virtually through online platforms. Each colloquia series will have one speaker to share his/her experiences in their respective fields. The objectives of ISICS are: (i) To increase the student's interests and motivations in STEM through this program which is also one of UniMAP's CSR programs. (ii) To enable the sharing of knowledge and expertise by world-renowned scientists and technologists to the school and university students. (iii) To promote the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in Malaysia with UniMAP being one of the key players. ISICS is the official program under the office of UniMAP’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and leads by Dr. Mohamad Nazri Abdul Halif as the chairman of ISICS. The other three IMK staff involes in ISCS program are Dr. Khairul Anwar Mohamad Khazali, Dr. Hafizudin Mohamad Nor and Ts. Muhamad Hafiz Masran. The other committees are from another Faculties and centers. From January to December 2022, ISICS has successfully conducted 7 series of talks from prominent scientists including one Nobel Prize winner – Prof. Daniels William Phillips (Nobel Prize in Physics 1997), two scientists from NASA (Dr. Hashima Hasan and Florence Tan), one cosmologist expert – Prof. Brian Keating from University of California San Diego USA, two experimental physicists who are involved with extreme physics experiments – Prof. Lyn Evans, Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN and Prof. David Reitze, Gravitational-Wave LIGO at Caltech. For the innovation part in ISICS, we organized a talk by Kamarul Muhamed, CEO of Aerodyne Group, a local international company focusing on drone and AI technology. The complete ISICS program can be accessed on the official website ISICS: https://isics.unimap.edu.my/ .
