BELMONT PRIMARY YEARBOOK 2023

BELMONT PRIMARY YEARBOOK 2023

WE’RE HERE TO HELP YOU TELL YOUR BRAND STORY SIGNAGES

Foreword Dear Students, Families and Friends of Belmont Primary School. I am pleased to give you an opportunity to view the 2023 school magazine and give you memories of our school year. Our school roll peaked at 462 students with many nationalities. Our school year will be remembered for many reasons, including the successful school fair and Battle of the Schools. It was great to have a school fair again where the local community could come and support our school. Our senior students will remember their camps, the choirs and their assembly items with fond memories. We welcomed Miss Georgia Comber and Mrs Maria Winslade onto our staff, while Miss Claudine Wallace took six months leave and resigned at the end of the year to continue her travels. Mrs Bioletti resigned at the end of the year as Senior Teacher and Associate Principal. Mrs Bioletti will continue to teach at our school and lead our Special Needs programme. Chris, thank you for everything you have done for the school community. You have been a wonderful colleague and friend. The staff continue to be highly passionate, collegial and highly skilled. I am always impressed with the commitment the teachers and teacher aides have to their students and families. The BOT continues to govern the school with diligence and expertise under the astute guidance and leadership of Tim Peacocke. This Board has every child at heart when making governance decisions and the members are extremely diligent, capable and hardworking. It is a pleasure to work alongside such a supportive group of parents. I would also like to acknowledge the work and effort of the PTA in supporting many wonderful resources for the students. Briar Williams and now Georgina Batchelor ably lead this group of volunteers. We were able to celebrate International Student Day, plus all our interzone sporting events, which the children will remember for a long time. All classes were able to do their items and the winning House each week, continues to be very competitive. Finally, thanks to all the families for the support you give to your children and the school community. Belmont Primary is a wonderful school to be a part of. Enjoy the magazine, enjoy the memories of Belmont Primary School and I trust you will maintain your love of learning and maintain the high values which have been constantly taught at school and home. Our Best Always. Bruce Cunningham PRINCIPAL 03

Belmont Primary Staff A message from the Board Tēnā Koutou Belmont Primary School community, I hope that the students are able to look back on their year with fondness and a sense of growth and development from their hard work. Each student brings their own perspectives and experiences which we want to embrace; it is great for students to learn from each other and the wider the students’ educational experience, the better equipped they are to manage in today’s world. It’s not only the students we want to embrace, but families also. I’ve seen over my time the amount of support and affection that families have given to, and in turn felt from, Belmont Primary. Our community’s involvement in the school makes this such a special learning environment. Of course, a group of children without its teachers is only a playdate. So a huge thank you goes to Mr Cunningham and his team. We’re incredibly fortunate with the teachers and support staff that Mr Cunningham leads. Our children’s development is a testament to their passion and dedication. It is great to see the joy and excitement so many students have to come to school- this bodes well for lifelong learning. Thank you, Mr Cunningham and the teachers for the environment you create. Behind the scenes, the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) provide a huge amount of support, and their work and fundraising give the school so many options and give our students so many benefits. Thank you to the PTA. As a board, we’re acutely aware of our good fortune at inheriting such a smoothly run, well supported school. That has given us the luxury of being able to focus on specific areas to enhance the students’ learning experience, their welfare, their environment and the amount of support they have access to. This year that has included resources and a focus on Te Reo and literacy. The board is committed to continuing to improve the educational and welfare outcome for each student; be it through teacher support, upgrades to various school facilities or challenging Mr Cunningham and his leadership team to make Belmont Primary School an even better school and leave no student behind. For those students and families leaving the school this year – thank you for your contributions; while you move on, you’re still a part of the BPS community and are always welcome back. Have a great summer and see you in 2024. Tim Peacocke Chairman Belmont Primary Board of Trustees 04

Arawa Arawa has shown great sportsmanship alongside our 3c’s during this year. It has been a very eventful and exciting year for us. Arawa is a very friendly house and we always have a smile on our faces even when things don't go our way. During our many journeys in the wondrous year of 2023, we have come across many ups and downs but we never let that put us down. Arawa has shown 110% in all areas of learning and sports. During house football, we have given it our best and we are still in it, meanwhile in swimming sports, Arawa has shown Manaakitanga in all aspects. The school values have guided Arawa through this amazing year. 2023 has been a pleasant and enjoyable year for us house and vice captains. We hope it's as legendary for everyone next year. Gina, Louis, Addison, Zeno Kiwi It has been an honour to be Kiwi’s House and Vice captains for 2023. Although there is always room for improvement, we feel that Kiwi did make excellent progress this year. We gained a lot of magnets even though we aren't winning we are still proud of Kiwi as kindness is the key for a good house. We Kiwi House and Vice Captains have had so much fun this year with Kiwi. They have amazing sportsmanship and try hard at everything. We hope the future house and vice captains have as much fun as we did!! Tovah, Miles, Sienna, Callum Ngapuhi Ngapuhi has achieved many things this year! We won two magnets for taking in so many jars, cakes and bottles of wine for the school fair. We came second in swimming sports and in term 3 we won the house sport points. Ngapuhi is always filled with fun and happy children who always present their three C’s. We have even won all our house football games (so far). Everyone in Ngapuhi always has had so much fun when we get together and we hope that still happens even when we have left this school. In Cross Country, everyone did really well! All together Ngapuhi has achieved so much and everyone should be so proud of themselves for contributing to Ngapuhi! Juliette, EJ, Natalie W, Arlo C Weka It has been such a pleasure being House and Vice Captains for Weka this year. Weka has been amazing in both sports and behaviour. Weka has won BOTH the Junior and Senior Swimming Carnival events this year. So far, Weka has been amazing in their classrooms and getting so far on the magnets in assembly. We love encouraging different people to do their best in everything. We hope Weka wins, but we will still be proud of the people in Weka who have put in all the effort to try to get points for our house! Mikaela T, Zach R, Sophie W, Milan J 05
