Wasim Kapoor

b 1951

Wasim Kapoor is an artist possessed by the dark emotions of
pain, suppression, suffering and loneliness. All his subjects,
whether simple Indian women involved in daily tasks, Jesus
Christ or even the ubiquitous Kolkata rickshaws, reflect angst
and torment at the hands of a cruel society. He says, "Ninety
per cent of my work is about the suffering of women and
their problems."

Tapan Ghosh

b 1943

Tapan Ghosh`s works capture the playfulness of formal
elements, with line and colour chasing each other,
disappearing and showing up unexpectedly to take the
viewer by surprise. He doesnt only simply capture
descriptions of the tangible world but enjoys the
inventiveness of form making through playful deliberations,
exploring the layering process, using instinctive control, often
guided by the elements themselves.

Prosenjit Sengupta

b 1957

Prasenjit skillfully paints chiselled figures of men, women &
children against pock- marked walls, which are not only a
textural backdrop, but they have their own story to tell. In
canvases infused with pathos, Prasenjit uses soft pastel
shades of grayish blue, pale green or a haunting beige to
convey his feeling for the subject, which is realistic & intense.
Within a muted monochrome scheme, one can appreciate
Prasenjit's simplicity of concept & depth of execution.

Kamal Mitra

b 1964

Mitra most definitely builds his works with a preconceived
image in his mind composed appropriately to bring forth the
concept as well as great visual appeal.
The figures of men women & children in his works have a
definite attitude as well as positioning. Mitra derives pleasure
from creating an intense tension through the attitude and
positioning of the subjects.

His technique is a craft that many want to emulate. There's a
liquid fluidity in his canvas, that he can retain irrespective of
the medium he is working in. Be it acrylic, oil or water.
Although, for close to half a decade he has worked mainly in
acrylic. But one thing is for sure and critics and aficionados
agree on this that this man is mysterious, away from this
world, despite living in it to the fullest.

Murli Cheeroth

b 1966

Born in Thrissur, Kerala, Murali Cheeroth earned a BFA in
1992 and MFA in 1995 from Santinikethan, West Bengal, and
an advanced computer diploma in digital media. According to
the artist, his working process is “a kind of extraction system,
that draws on tiny concerns about uber urbanization,
frenzied globalization and the visual/virtual stimulation
therein, and folds and unfolds them into another reality to
simplify their characteristics and relationships in order to
build a new visual experience that is clear and vivid”.
