We are proud to support the
JDRF Hope Gala.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s work gives us hope that there will one day be a cure for this pandemic disease.
Our best wishes for a fabulous evening!
Arlene Schnitzer & Jordan Schnitzer

Dear Friends,
On behalf of the JDRF International Board of Directors and the entire JDRF family, we congratulate the Oregon/Southwest Washington Chapter on your 23rd Annual JDRF Hope Gala.
It is our pleasure to recognize and celebrate this year’s Gala Honorees, Jay and Renee Haladay, for all they have done and continue to do to help us achieve our vision of a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). Thanks to these devoted champions, JDRF continues to be the leader in T1D research, driving critical advances in new therapies. We also want to congratulate and thank Gala Chairs, Larry and Suzanne Mackin, for their dedication to making tonight such a special evening for everyone. This night could not happen without Larry and Suzanne, and the commitment of all who have worked hard to make this year’s event a success.
JDRF works every day to change the reality of this disease for millions of people—and to prevent anyone else from ever knowing it—by funding research, advocating for government support of research and new therapies, ensuring new therapies come to market and connecting and engaging the T1D community. Thanks to your efforts and support of JDRF, we will turn Type One into Type None.
Please accept our deepest gratitude for your support tonight and for all that you do for JDRF. Sincerely,
Derek K. Rapp

Welcome to the 23rd Annual JDRF Hope Gala.
Thank you for joining us for an evening that promises to be both inspiring, enjoyable and full of excitement. We are honored to once again serve as Co-Chairs for this important event.
Tonight’s Gala supports a common goal and focus,
not only for our local supporters, but for millions of
people worldwide: the hope for a cure for diabe-
tes — which is closer every day thanks to the generosity of donors like you. This focus has enabled JDRF to remain the leading non-governmental funder of diabetes research in the world, directing over $2 billion to scientific research since JDRF’s founding.
Your support is especially meaningful to us because our daughter, Ali, was diagnosed with T1D at age 14. She is now married and the mother of a healthy, happy son who will soon be 7 years old. In the 19 years that Ali has been living with T1D, we have seen many important advances in therapies and technology. JDRF has made significant strides in many ways; through the funding of critical research; by advocating for government support of research and new therapies to ensure that new therapies come to market; and by connecting, supporting and engaging the T1D Community. These important actions have resulted in
an improvement in the quality of life of our loved ones with T1D. We know that we will turn Type One into Type None.
We are so grateful to the sponsors, patrons, donors and volunteers who have generously contributed their time, energy and resources to make this such a memorable, high quality and successful event. Their combined efforts enable us to provide you with an extraordinary evening and we could not do this without them.
Tonight we are pleased to honor Jay and Renee Haladay with the Living and Giving Award. This honor recognizes those who stand out as exemplary leaders in our community and who have set the standard for “giving back” in many ways. By honoring Jay and Renee, and because of their commitment to the success of this event, we know that we are bringing greater awareness of this disease to our community and have increased the fundraising which supports the Mission of JDRF.
Since 2001, JDRF has invested over $6.7 million dollars to fund T1D research being done in Oregon/SW Washington. Your dollars are definitely helping to make a difference in the many lives of those living with type 1 diabetes and helping to positively impact jobs in Oregon/SW Washington.
Thank you for sharing this important evening with us! With your help, we will move this hope for a cure one step closer to reality.
Sincerely,
Larry & Suzanne Mackin

2018 Hope Gala Honorees
Jay and Renee
Haladay
We are grateful to be honored by the JDRF at this 2018 Hope Gala. While we have not had our life altered by type 1 diabetes, we know far too many family members and friends whose idea of a normal life is managing the impact of this disease on a daily basis. We trust this evening will be festive and full of hope, because everyone needs hope when it comes to dealing with life altering situations. But hope can be passive without action; we would like to congratulate all of you this evening for not just having hope, but taking very positive action to put an end to type 1 diabetes .
The two of us have been involved in countless charitable activities over the years. Many have been one-one-one opportunities to provide individuals with a better life, or magnifying our charitable spirit through our software business as we supported our employees’ philanthropic efforts. Now, with the formation of our family office 10 Branch, we are finding a more focused way to channel our charitable activities. This is an exciting new chapter in our lives and JDRF fits into how we put action into our hope for the future of those impacted by type 1 diabetes.
In all facets of our lives, we have made it a priority to introduce our family members to helping make a difference every day in the lives of others. It is heartwarming to see them passing this spirit on to their young families and we encourage all of you to use the energy of events like this Gala to engage your entire family in life changing philanthropic endeavors.
We want to thank the JDRF for this recognition, but more importantly, trust that our combined efforts continues the momentum to end type 1 diabetes.

Pappy Van Winkle’s 12 year old Special Reserve Bourbon
is slightly higher in both age and proof than its 10 year old counterpart. The extra two years give the wheat time to create a smoother, more balanced product. The result? America’s foremost spirits authority, Paul Picult, described this award- winning bourbon as “a perfect combination of age and proof.” You’ll find gentle flavors of sun-kissed fruits and dark spices laced with caramel from the butterscotch start to the
savory finish.
Leonetti 1998 Flight
1998 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, 1998 Sangiovese.
These three bottles have been stored in a private cellar since released from Leonetti.
Pappy Van Winkle’s 15 Year Family Reserve Bottle
This bourbon was crafted according to our exclusive family wheated recipe. The smooth, oak flavor blends well with the barrel proof. Selected from barrels in the heart of our Kentucky warehouse, this bourbon has remained untouched for 15 years and unhurried by time.

Celebrity Emcee
Elizabeth Dinh
Professional Licensed Auctioneer
Elizabeth Dinh returned to the Pacific Northwest when she joined FOX 12 Oregon as an evening news anchor in February 2016.
Before moving to the Portland area, she spent three years back in her hometown area of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas as an anchor and morning reporter for KTVT CBS 11.
Elizabeth first experienced the region’s rainy weather and beautiful scenery as a reporter at Seattle’s KOMO-TV. She also anchored and reported in Tampa, Florida at WFTS. Her career began in the Texas Panhandle — in Amarillo, at the duopoly station KAMR NBC 4/ KCIT FOX 14 as weekend anchor and evening reporter.
Elizabeth says she owes her life to an amazing love story, and with good reason. While in Seattle, in June 2012, her husband Kevin donated one of his kidneys to her when a condition called IgA Nephropathy caused both of hers to fail. The selfless gift of life from him has renewed her health and her spirit after living with failing kidneys for nearly two years.
The youngest of seven children, Elizabeth is the only daughter. Her brothers are all married and between them have 18 children — and counting! During the Fall of Saigon in 1975, her mom and dad fled South Vietnam before settling in Irving, Texas — which is also where Elizabeth was born.
Elizabeth is proud to be a former Miss Asian American Texas and recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award (the highest award a Girl Scout can achieve). She is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington.
Don Jones
As a founding auctioneer with
Stokes Auction Group Don Jones
has entertained and engaged our community philanthropists for over two decades. His high energy, altruistic approach ranks Don at the top of the request list.
With a clear understanding that
all fundraisers, and in particular auctions, take months to plan Don enthusiastically accepts the challenge to raise the most amount of money for each and every charity. “It is about really being there, listening and understanding. There is no better feeling than to know you helped another in their ambition to better the community.”
Don is a Pacific Northwest native and calls the Willamette Valley home, which may explain his love for the outdoors. When Don puts down the microphone you will most likely find him with a fishing pole in his hands or snowmobiling. In general, just enjoying all four seasons that the valley offers.

This is truly The Last Best Place. The two of you will embark on a 3 night/4 day adventure in what is called some of the most breathtaking country in the world. You will fly from Portland to Missoula on Thursday, September 27, 2018 heading back home on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Your Montana vacation home awaiting you is 1,440 square-feet with 1 bedroom (plus lofted bedroom)/1 bath, including a charming spiral staircase. Each Montana vacation home has a lengthy front porch with a view of the wilderness and a back deck with a hot tub. And, of course, just because you’re in the wilds of the west doesn’t mean you can’t tune in to civilization by viewing your flat-screen TV with satellite or checking email over wireless Internet.
Each year, one of the most exciting highlights of fall is Paws Up Montana Master Chefs. And this year, it’s even more special because they are celebrating the best of the best, but not just among women, but among all who rule in food, wine, beer and spirits. Join them as
they plate up the first female-inspired signature culinary event. Your Montana Master Chefs Package includes: Accommodations, Meals, Choice of a Half Day activity per person/per day, Amenity gift, taxes and resort fee and your choice of half day resort activities.
The package is designed to deliver memories that will last a lifetime by providing an exhilarating experience of the unspoiled American West — unpretentious, uncompromising and incomparable.

Ty9pe 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone people need to get energy from food. T1D strikes both children and adults at any age and suddenly. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Though T1D’s causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers play a role. There is currently nothing you can do to prevent it, and there is no cure.
Living with T1D is a constant balancing act. People with T1D must regularly monitor their blood-sugar level, inject or continually infuse insulin through a pump, and carefully balance their insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night.
T1D is a serious and stressful disease to manage. Treatment options are improving all the time, and people with T1D are able to lead normal, productive and inspiring lives. JDRF is driving research to improve the technology people with T1D use
to monitor blood-sugar levels and deliver the proper doses of insulin, as well as research that will ultimately deliver a cure.
Fund a Cure is a unique opportunity for you to change the lives of those living with type one diabetes. Your 100% tax-deductible contribution will drive research initiatives such as the artificial pancreas, beta cell replacement, glucose control, Prevention and restoration therapies, as well as other critical JDRF research priorities.
Our auctioneer, Don Jones, will call out funding levels of $20,00, $10,000, $5,000, $2,500, $1,000, $500, $250, and $100.
Please raise your bid card at the level you wish to contribute. THANK YOU!
