to be trolled for the masturbation scene
Ain ‘Veere Di Wedding’ but she also knew
that it will help start a conversation about female
desire, which is still considered an untouchable
topic in Indian society and cinema.
The Shashanka Ghosh-directed film, a
commercial potboiler about four friends
starring Swara, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam
K Ahuja and Shikha Talsania, had sparked a
debate among the critics with some hailing it
for being a step forward in women-led stories,
while others deriding the film for its superficial
and contradictory exploration of the women’s
perspective.
“I expected to be trolled for this. There is an
inherent shock value to the scene. There are
people in our society who slut shame. I am quite
open about things, give my opinion on political
issues, so people will not leave any opportunity
to attack me but the film is much more than the
masturbation scene,” told Swara.
The actor is glad that it is the first mainstream
Bollywood film to openly show female desire
and start a conversation about it.
“Everyone will have their own perspective and
it is good that a conversation has started. Apart
from that, in the whole of South Asia there is
this culture of silence when it comes to issues
of female sexuality, female body or female
desire. We are silent about it.”

manisHa koirala: fear of
losing it all made me
appreciate life
anisha Koirala has found poetry in everyday
mundaneness of the world - the sunrise, the
Mgrass, the shining stars - and feels more
appreciative of life today with every breath she
takes. She was diagnosed with the ovarian cancer
in 2012 which she successfully overcame. Though
difficult, Manisha said the phase, where the fear of
losing everything loomed
Manisha told, “When I was at the brink of losing it
all - with my health crisis - that made me appreciate
life. For me, everyday is a blessing. I look at things
which I ignored earlier. I enjoy sunrise, being
barefoot on the grass, the stars in the sky, the
breeze on your face or the ruffle of the leaves. I
feel blessed to be alive,”.
The actor said she is “at a relaxed and excited
space” in her career and life, with her heart
being more “compassionate, understanding and
focused”. While she feels grateful and blessed
to still get good work, she is also thrilled to get
feedback for her performances.
“When you get good reviews for your work,
it’s reassuring. You wonder ‘even after 80 plus
movies?’ and I say yes. It’s always nice to hear
good feedback,” she said.
In ‘Sanju’, Manisha will be seen playing Dutt’s
mother, Nargis. The actor said she had to undergo
several “look tests” and credits director Rajkumar
Hirani for doing “excellent” ground work.
“I had a very good director and the team was
so good, half of my battle was won there. When
you work with good directors, it’s easier because
they’ve already done the ground work, research.
We did a lot of look tests, watched documentaries,
read books. I tried to bring out what we could.”
‘Sanju’ features Ranbir Kapoor in the lead and also
stars Paresh Rawal, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza

On the other hand, the actor has shown interest in working on another biopic,
reportedly based on Indian dacoit-turned-parliamentarian Phoolan Devi’s assas-
sin, Sher Singh Rana. It was his recorded life story in the book ‘Jail Diary: Tihar
Se Kabul-Kandahar Tak’ that caught Devgn’s interest. Reportedly, Rana escaped
from Tihar Jail in 2004 and headed to Afghanistan to get back the remains of
12th-century Indian ruler Prithviraj Chauhan. He was later caught in Kolkata in
2006.
The actor will begin the prep for the film next year and is also reportedly thinking
about producing it. No director has been brought on board yet.
Rana was accused of assassinating Phoolan Devi in 2001 at her home in Delhi.
He was later convicted by the Delhi court in 2014. He is currently out on bail.

vocal about his inclination towards reading, astronomy and more. And that’s exactly why the fact
Sthat the ‘Raabta’ actor has bought a land on the moon shouldn’t come as a surprise. Sushant
reportedly confirmed the same in an interview. He claimed that the piece of land that he has acquired is
situated on the far side of the moon, in a region called the Mare Muscoviense, or the “Sea of Muscovy”.
Earlier speaking about the same, he told an agency that he would like to believe that the different ways

in the way they punctuate the narratives; the nuance, would create the different versions of reality in

And so he is just punctuating a nuance right now and already is, over the Moon.
The actor has bought the property from the International Lunar Lands Registry. Sushant is certainly the
first Bollywood actor to actually own a land on the moon. Before this, Shah Rukh Khan was the only
one to own a lunar land. However, the actor didn’t buy rather it was offered to him as a present by a fan
As reported, Sushant got the property registered on June 25, 2018. But it is also interesting to note that
it may not amount to a legal ownership, as an international treaty states that, “Outer space, including
the Moon and other celestial bodies, are the common heritage of mankind and cannot be owned by

record, we must say.
Sushant completed shooting for the film in Mumbai,
last week, and the entire unit celebrated the
occasion. The actor, it seems, will feature in a never-
seen-before avatar in the film. He will reportedly
play a tourist escort, who carries the elderly and
the ailing on his back to the Himalayan pilgrimage
centre.
The movie stars Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan’s
daughter, Sara Ali Khan, opposite Sushant.
Recently, Sara and ‘Kedarnath’ were in news after
Abhishek Kapoor’s production house filed a case
against the debutante over alleged date issues.
It all started when owing to a rift between the co-
producers of ‘Kedarnath’, the film got delayed. In
the meanwhile, Sara gave her nod to Rohit Shetty
and Karan Johar’s ‘Simmba’, which stars Ranveer
Singh. Later, when the makers of ‘Kedarnath’ asked
her to shoot for the film from May till July, she said
she would not be able to work in June, as she had
already given those dates to ‘Simmba’. Abhishek
then filed a court case against het, citing breach of
agreement.

film which went on floors in 2013 has been
facing delays for quite some time. After a
long wait, recently there was news that the
film might hit the screens in September but
looks now the movie will get further delayed.
A close source to a tabloid revealed that
there are not many takers for the film. The
movie has been delayed a lot because of
which it has got negative press. The source
further said that the producers of the film
are planning to move the film again because
they are not getting a good release plan in
place. Many big releases are also lined up
and hence exhibitors are too not willing to
give them the required screens.
In the film, Sunny Deol will be playing a
double role for the first time on the big

Zinta the film also stars Arshad Warsi,
Shreyas Talpade, and Ameesha Patel.

defended the movie saying if it was that bad, it wouldn’t have fetched box office results. Bobby interacted with the media at the

‘Race 3’ has crossed Rs 130 crore at the box office in India since releasing on June 15. It was largely panned by film critics and social
media users created memes and jokes on the film’s screenplay, dialogues, acting, music, action sequences and direction too.
Asked about it, Bobby said, “There are films which are good but sometimes it doesn’t work at the box office. So, how anyone can control
that?”
“I am really happy because people have appreciated the work of the entire cast of the film, including me. I think criticism affects us when
we make a bad film, but I think if our film was too bad, then it wouldn’t have worked at the box office.”
‘Race 3’, with a cast led by superstar Salman Khan and directed by Remo D’Souza, got an opening day collection of Rs 29.17 crore. It
also features Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor, Daisy Shah, Saqib Saleem and Freddy Daruwala.
“Since the release of the film, the smile is not going away from my face. I am really happy as entire team of ‘Race 3’ has really worked
hard for it and people have appreciated the film.”
“The entire team of ‘Race 3’ is really happy because the film is doing good business at the box office... What else do we want? I hope I

support to various social causes.
AKajol supports the Help A Child Reach

person found using plastic will be imposed fine.
Ajay Devgn and Kajol are likely to attend an

by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The
event aims to find an alternative to plastic bags.

dia mirza:
fewer opportunities

bollywood after
a certain age
ia Mirza said exciting work opportunities start thinning
out for female actors after they reach a certain age
Das filmmakers and some male actors ‘above 50’
prefer to cast young heroines. Dia, who is returning to the
silver screen after a gap of six years with Rajkumar Hirani’s
‘Sanju’, believes the film industry is not that welcoming to
female actors in their mid 30s.
“For women (actors), especially once they hit their mid
30s, opportunities, unfortunately, start shrinking because
some filmmakers want to cast young actresses and most
male actors, who have well passed their 50s, (also) want to
work with the younger talent. One needs to break through
this. It is going to take some fundamental changes in the
way we approach our cinema whether it is about every
woman making her choices or choosing to marry when she
wants and continue to be a professional,” Mirza told in an
interview.
Citing the example of yesteryear stars Sharmila Tagore,
Waheeda Rehman and Smita Patil, who continued to get
roles after marriage, Dia said “today’s actors have to push
themselves, explore opportunities, and even create them
for themselves”. Dia said, she waited for the right kind of just that I was not in front of the camera. As an actor you feel most alive in
