AISHWARYA RAI

TURNS INDIAN
MADONNA FOR
‘FANNEY KHAN’
SONG
ishwarya Rai Bachchan will kick off the biggest song of her career
Athis week. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan for debutant director Atul
Manjrekar’s musical-drama ‘Fanney Khan’, it features the actress as
an ‘Indian Madonna’. The song is being choreographed by award-
winning dancer and creative director, Frank Gatson Jr (inset), who has
worked with Beyoncé and Rihanna in the past.
“Aishwarya plays a huge pop icon who’s extremely popular with
the youngsters. Her character is a fabulous dancer and singer who
performs on the global stage. While fleshing out her character, we
began referencing a bunch of choreographers who do international
live shows. Frank is among the best in the world and we decided to
approach him,” Atul tells Mirror, adding that the song is an elaborate
portrayal of Ash’s city tours, covering three-four acts and will be shot
over eight-ten days in Mumbai.
Frank, who got his big break with Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’,
has choreographed 17 videos for Beyoncé and was the director-
choreographer of three of her world tours. He has also worked with
Jennifer Lopez, Toni Braxton and Usher. “Frank was excited at the
opportunity to work with Aishwarya whom he knows of and immediately
came on board,” beams Atul.
Produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Anil Kapoor and Bhushan
Kumar, ‘Fanney Khan’ also features Anil Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and
Divya Dutta. The August 3 release is loosely based on the Oscar-
nominated Dutch film ‘Everybody’s Famous!’
“We have kept the tone of the film real and this song too is being
choreographed tastefully. I’ve been extremely lucky with my cast as
none of the actors turned me down,”

upon as a secondary part...”
The actor is happy with the portrayal of negative characters on screen.
“The writing part of the gray or negative characters have become far more better, more
research has been done in depth but the only thing is the iconic villain from Indian films

Parineeti Chopra brings out his best while shooting

Shah interacted with the media here at the wrap-up party of
‘Namaste England’ on Wednesday. Both actors earlier featured
in ‘Ishaqzaade’, and ‘Namaste England’ marks the second time
that they have been paired. They will also be seen in ‘Sandeep
Aur Pinky Faraar’.
Arjun said, “As an actor, Parineeti brings the best out of me
because I feel that if you are honest with your co-actor, then
automatically, you deliver good results.”
“There is not a feeling of fear in me while working with Parineeti
as I can tell her to improvise on a certain scene or ask her to
do some more retakes together. There is no sense of insecurity
among us in terms of outdoing each other. So, you look forward
to work with such actors because eventually it helps both the
actors to perform a good scene. That is the reason I enjoy
working with her.”
Arjun said they have also witnessed a lot of ups and downs
in their careers. “It’s been almost seven years since we did
our first film together. We were really young while shooting
‘Ishaqzaade’. So, there has been a lot of gap... Both of us have
been in touch, but I think we have witnessed so many ups and
downs in our personal and professional life, but while working
on ‘Namaste England’, we didn’t feel like we have shot a film
after six years.”
“Now, both of us have worked with each other in two back-
to-back films. So, I think we should take a break working with
each other.” ‘Namaste England’ is a sequel to the superhit film
‘Namastey London’.
“It’s a franchise that has been loved for so many years.
‘Namastey London’ had iconic songs, scenes and visuals, so to
be part of that world, and to be working with Vipul sir who has
earlier directed that film, gives me an amazing feeling.”
“It’s also a strange feeling because sometimes you want to
be part of some films and I clearly remember that I watched
‘Namastey London’ with Katrina Kaif (who was the film’s
leading lady), and today I am talking about wrapping shooting
of ‘Namaste England’. So, it’s very surreal in that sense,” he
added.
The film will release on October 19.

Ilike Akshay Kumar is also interested in making
movies revolving around powerful woman-centric
roles. In an interview with a daily, the actor talked
about the importance of ‘heroines’ in cinema and
how he has been planning on making a film on a
strong female character but nothing’s materialised
yet.
Akshay revealed that he was in talks with his co-
star Nimrat Kaur from the hit movie ‘Airlift’ but
nothing worked out. He went on to add that it’s
high time the film industry started giving respect
to their actresses as he feels that just like a hero,
even heroines play crucial role in films.
The National Award winner shared that as an
actor and producer, he receives tons of scripts
every day, some of them are good and some are
not. However, he really liked a script on dowry
that had come his way but a script needs to have
everything right and that is yet to happen. The
superstar went on to add that looking for a good
script is like fishing where you cast your net and
wait; outstanding work comes once in a while.
But, the ‘PadMan’ actor confirmed that he has
been discussing with his team about making a
film where a woman is at the heart of it.
Interestingly, in an attempt to empower women,
the actor has a martial arts school where he
encourages girls and young women to take up
self-defense classes.

ranbir kapoor:
actors sHould be real, like
salman kHan and sanjay dutt
iving in the make-belief world of movies can be tricky but actor Ranbir
Kapoor said the way to navigate is by being absolutely real in front of
Lthe audience, like Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt.
Khan and Dutt, both close friends, have been in the industry for more than
25 years. The actors, however, have also courted controversies.
Asked what has he imbibed from their lives as an actor and as a person,
Kapoor said he learnt the ability to be real, come what may.
“With Salman sir and Sanju sir, who are such loved superstars, it is very
important to be who you are,
irrespective of doing anything right
or wrong. They are two actors
who really are who they are. They
probably made mistakes in their
lives and probably paid a price for
it.
“But you know who they are as
people and I think that’s what is
important. You cannot manipulate
an audience, you cannot live a
PR filled life or try to be someone
you’re not, give impression to
people ‘Oh, I am so great’. You just have to be who you are,” Kapoor told.
The ‘Jagga Jasoos’ actor believes that in the end the audience wants to be
entertained by movies and as an actor, all he wants is people to like him for
his work, which is of utmost importance.
But being real in front of the audience for actors can be tricky and Kapoor
feels it is “way more difficult to be emotionally naked than physically.”
The chance to be emotionally vulnerable came to him with Rajkumar Hirani’s
‘Sanju’, a biopic on Dutt.
“’Sanju’ was such a part where I got so much opportunity. It had so much
in the part, as an actor you get turned on and say ‘wow’. It is hard, but
sometimes you have a cushioned pillow in the form of a filmmaker, Rajkumar
Hirani.
“You feel comforted, there is so much trust, you want to surrender and be
honest to the moment completely,” he said.
When the script -- written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi -- came to him, every
aspect of Dutt’s life shocked him.
“The Sanjay Dutt you and I know is very different from what you will see
in the film. Someone who is scared, made mistakes, who you’d probably
think is immature, selfish. To understand him from this perspective was new,
endearing and exciting.
“You may have your own opinion about him after you see the film, but it is
an honest portrayal of a very troubled man who has made a lot of mistakes,”
Kapoor said.
‘Sanju’, which features actor Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt, is the story of
the ups and downs in the life of the ‘Munnbhai’ star and focuses on the
relationship between him and his father.
For Kapoor, the father-son dynamic hit closer home.
“I really identified with that dynamic between Sanju sir and Sunil sir, because
me and my father have a similar relationship. There is a lot of fear, distance,
admiration, respect and love. We both are actors.
