ctor Jim Sarbh is facing backlash after a video went
viral on social media in which he was seen cracking
Ainsensitive joke. Now, the actor has clarified that his
comments were taken out of context. He added that he has
never condoned any form of sexual violence.
In the video, Jim Sarbh said, “I’d rather be raped by 12
prostitutes” went viral, the actor says his comments were taken
out of context as he has never condoned any form of sexual
violence. Jim said in a statement to IANS: “It is unfortunate
that my comments were taken out of context. I do not now nor
have I ever condoned any form of sexual violence. This (video)
has been picked out of context without a prelude where I am
actually enacting parts of a play which is a dark satire.
“The piece I was seen delivering in the video is about a priest
blowing a very casual question completely out of proportion,
condemning alcohol, prostitutes and rape all simultaneously.
“I personally do not find it to be about a desire to rape, or
to inflict sexual violence upon another, but a subversive and
comedic response to an extremely volatile sentence.”
In a video that surfaced late on Thursday, Jim is seen acting
some line in a private environment at an after-party event at
the 71st Cannes Film Festival.
The video features Jim saying: “I’d rather be raped by 12
prostitutes than touch alcohol and the Punjabi says ‘Me too, I
didn’t know that was an option’.”
As Jim completes his ‘joke’, actress Kangana Ranaut, who is
seen standing next to him, is seen cracking up along with the
rest of the party.
The “Neerja” fame actor says he understands the environment
that “we live in just now, in light of recent events, but more
frankly, in light of events going on since the beginning of
human consciousness, rape is a deadly serious issue.
“I treat it as such. I did not intend to hurt anybody, and I
certainly do not consider actual sexual or physical violence
funny,” he said.
Jim, who delivered a remarkable performance as slave
general Malik Kafur in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmaavat”,
is currently shooting in the US.

he ‘Padmaavat’ star said that though the subjects he has been exploring in the superhero genre have not materialised yet, the
day is not far when the country will get its ‘true blue Indian superhero’.
TIn an interview, Ranveer said , “I have been exploring various superhero subjects for a while now. Of course, none of them
have materialised just yet. But I don’t think we are very far from seeing a true blue Indian superhero. There are some really interesting
characters. Hopefully, not very long from now, we will see a bonafide superhero, a big ticket, big screen bonanza that is truly Indian”.
Ranveer said besides the superhero projects, he is also interested in doing films in English and is waiting for the right opportunity.
When asked if he sees himself in Hollywood in future, Ranveer said, “I do want to be part of something that is produced in English
language and I am just waiting for the right opportunity. There have been opportunities, which for one reason or another, have not
worked out as yet. But soon, if everything falls into place, the timing is right and the gig is right, most certainly, it is definitely something
I am interested in.”
The 32-year-old actor has lent his voice for Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Deadpool 2’ in Hindi.
The character is popularly known as the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ because of his irreverent style. Ranveer agrees that his personality-quirky
and energetic-matches with the Marvel superhero.
“I remember when the first ‘Deadpool’ came out, there was a poll ‘Who should be ‘Deadpool’ if it is made in India?’ and I won by a
landslide. A lot of people identify my personality with the personality of Deadpool. I think that brand of humour matches mine, some-
where or the other,” he says.
‘Deadpool’ immediately became my favourite when I saw the first part. I had not seen or experienced a superhero like this before. He
is unlike any superhero. He is a real bada** and definitely my favourite.”
In the Hindi version of the David Leitch-directed sequel, Ranveer will be heard channelising his ‘inner Deadpool’ by being the voice
of Reynolds, whose work he deeply admires ever since he saw the Hollywood star’s sitcom, ‘Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place’.
Ranveer said there was no specific brief for dubbing in Hindi.
While the first day was more like a ‘teething process’, things started moving faster later as Ranveer started getting into a flow, under-
standing his own process to dub.

for a sequence in ‘Happy Phir Bhaag Jayegi’ was extremely

“I do have some practice driving manual cars but this mini truck was
no cakewalk. It was a very old and heavy vehicle and because it
was manual, the steering and gears were extremely tiresome and
required a lot of strength to manuver,” Sonakshi said.
“Since it was a chase sequence, I had to accelerate the speed but
with enough skill to guide my course safely on the roads. Having
to burn rubber with that massive beast was quite the challenge but
when we got it, the feeling was incredible,” she added.
‘Happy Phir Bhaag Jayegi’ is a sequel to ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’,
featuring Diana Penty, Ali Fazal and Abhay Deol that was released
in 2016. The romantic comedy narrated the story of a girl named
Happy, who runs away from her wedding and reaches Pakistan by
mistake.
Diana features in the sequel too. She is joined by actress Sonakshi
whose character also runs away from her wedding. Mudassar Aziz,
who helmed the first part, is back on the director’s chair for the
sequel.The scene for which Sonakshi drove the vehicle was crucial.
“It was a rather crucial scene that was being shot in Kuala Lumpur
recently. The scene was a chase sequence for which Sonakshi was
required to drive a mini truck as a means for her character to escape.”
“The truck was an old, heavy metal bodied hulk and driving it required
a fair bit of familiarity and control with it’s weight and functionality.
She was clear from the get go that she didn’t want a double for it and
hence she spent a fair bit of time driving the truck and getting used
to it. It was not easy as it was an old self geared truck which required
some serious strength to push it around,” said a source.
The film will also feature Abhay Deol and Jimmy Shergill. ‘Happy
Phirr Bhag Jayegi’ is set to release on August 24.

international biopic
on osho raJneesh
ecently, Netflix released a documentary Wild Wild Country based on the controversial life of Osho Rajneesh.
After the successful release of the documentary, India’s filmmaker Subhash Ghai is all set to co-produce
Ra biopic on the controversial spiritual guru with an Italian production house. The project, titled “Osho: The
Other Side of the Ocean” was announced at the ongoing Cannes International Film Festival.
“I am proud to announce an international film ‘Osho: The Other Side of the Ocean’ as a producer under Indo-
Italian co-production to be directed by Italian director Lakshen Sucameli in English language for global market on
interesting and dramatic chapters of Osho’s life from childhood till his death in 1990,” Ghai told PTI.
Sucameli has co-written the story
with “Rang De Basanti” fame
Kamlesh Pandey.
A follower of Osho, Sucameli,
has been developing the project
for a while and had even set up a
crowdfunding website.
In an interview to Osho News in
2010, the director had revealed the
premise of the story.
The film “tells the story of a female
journalist who follows Osho’s life in
America, then onto the world tour
until his death in Pune in 1990,” he
had said.
“The main character is at first very
sceptical towards Osho and his
commune but changes her mind
through time... In this way I hope
to catch the attention of those
who still see Osho with a negative
attitude, which includes a large part
of movie goers, especially in the
States,” Sucameli had said.
