On December 5 is the birthday of His Majesty King Rama IX. It is
a national holiday and is celebrated all over the country. His birthday is
regarded as Father's Day a very significant day in Thailand.

Mother's Day Celebrations in Thailand
In Thailand, 12th of August is celebrated as the birthday of Her

Majesty Queen Sirikit. As the Queen is also regarded as mother to all
Thai people, this day is also celebrated as ―Mother's Day.The
celebrations for the Queen and for mother are being held every year
and observed as a Thai national holiday.

Makha Bucha Day (วันมาฆบชู า) is a Buddhist holiday, which on the
night of the full moon during the third lunar (จันทรคต)ิ month of the
year. There were important events happened:

1. There were 1,250 monks followers decided to come back to see
Lord Buddha at Weluwan Wannaram (สวนเวฬุวัน ) without appointment
after teaching Buddhism.

2. The Buddha gave Arhantas the three, principles of the
Buddhism (หลกั ธรรม)
called ―The Ovadhapatimokha (โอวาทปาตโิ มกข)์ ‖. Three Principles: The
3 cores principles (the Ovadhapatimokha โอวาทปาฏโิ มกข)์ are;

1. Refrain from commiting all kind of wickeness (ไมท่ า
ความชวั่ )

2. Be good and do good (ทาความดที งั้ ทางกาย วาจา และใจ)
3. Purify the mind (ทาจติ ใจใหบ้ รสิ ทุ ธ)ิ์
It is an occasion when Buddhists go to the temple to make merit
activities, such as alms giving, meditation and listening to teachings.

Songkran is Thailand's most famous. An important event on the
Buddhist calendar, this water festival marks the beginning of the
traditional Thai New Year.

Thai people celebrate Songkran by splashed water. Family is
important for the festival. Many Thai people go back to their
hometowns to spend time with older relatives. Buddhists also visit
temples throughout Songkran where water is poured on Buddha
images and on the hands of Buddhist monks as a mark of respect.

April 13th is the first day of the festival. Thai people prepare for
the beginning of the New Year by cleaning their houses.

April 14th is Wan Nao ,the celebration of the old Thai New Year's
Eve. Many Buddhists go to their temples to build sand chedis.
April 15th is Thai New Year's Day ,the final day of Songkran, celebrated
