ANODIZING
Anodizing (anodic oxidation) is an electro-chemical process inducing the oxide formation (alumina) on the extruded profile surface.
Such treatment enhances the following features:
• Corrosion resistancy
• Surface hardness
• Abrasion resistancy
The oxide layer thickness sets the protection level: in the DEFENDER series the oxide layer has a thickness of 20um, which is the highest of the 4 level
classes according to UNI10681.2010, making it suitable for a urban and marine environment.
The finishes applied to the products only aim to an aesthetic goal and do not alter the protecting capacity of the process.
The anodizing process takes place once the profile cutting and drilling are done, in order to protect the surfaces involved in the latest processes.
Note:
Galvanic corrosion is an electro- chemical process taking place at the interface between two different metals in the presence of an electrolyte
(I.E. water). This process causes the dissolving of the metal with the lower electric potential, which in most common cases is aluminum.
This only happens with raw aluminum, hence not anodized.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
The periodic cleaning of the product is important to maintain the original look. In a marine or polluted urban environment it is suggested to clean the
surfaces every three months: in other environments every 6 months. For indoor installations it is recommended to clean the surfaces at least once a year.
Cleaning instructions: use hot water and neutral soap, with a soft cloth or a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse with clean water. Wipe with a soft cloth.
Special care during the installation
• Use white spirit to remove dust, grease or any other type of residuals. Do not use abrasive materials.
• To protect milling and drilling areas from corrosion, use sealing material such as silicone or butyl, spray paint such as metallic zinc spray

or other corrosion inhibitors.
In case of winter installation, keep well in mind the natural thermal expansion that occurs during the summer: therefore, add suitable expansion
joints. The coefficient of expansion of aluminium is 2.3x10-5 °C1 :E.G. if the temperature increases by 35°C, the expansion of a 3 meter bar comes
to 2.3x10-5 °C1, that is 2.4 mm.

Body structure: AISI 316 stainless steel

Features: single-point fixing with Ø 48 mm boss and Ø48 mm adjustable support spacer with 5 mm extension. Four dead holes in Ø 3 mm head,

40 mm interaxis, allow tightening the studs with special tool. The system is anchored to the wall via an M12 threaded bar NOT SUPPLIED.

CONCLUSIONS: According to the test performed, based on the results obtained and according to what
is indicated in Table 3.1.II of Infrastructure D.M. dated 14/01/2008, the sample in question, consisting
of a parapet, limited to horizontal linear static load, complies with the requirements of Infrastructure DM
14/01/2008.

Fu = unit load per metre - Du = deformation under load

NOTE: According to UNI7967 of 2014 the immediate post-break glass collapse must be avoided,
hence it is no longer permitted to use the type of interlayer used in tests, without combining a
structural handrail. It is also possible to make balustrades without a handrail using a stiff structural
interlayer.
