University of Kelaniya thrived in keeping their mark once again
among the Leo community in Sri Lanka. The enthusiastic and
courageous Leos continued to strive for excellence and achieve
the set goals at the outset of the year.
The Leos commitment to enhance the lives of the communities
and thus make the world a better place, was contagious. Despite
all the unexpected hardships, the Leos demonstrated their resil-

bined efforts of every individual in a team. Great leaders have
the power and ability to bring about positive change in society

and inspire their followers to be the best versions of themselves.

since 2014, with a passion to dream more and do more towards
the wellbeing of the society while inspiring and directing the

Depletion of the Ozone layer is one of the major concerns in the
current society. Without the Ozone layer, we cannot survive on

the Earth.
“EARTH WITHOUT OZONE IS LIKE A HOUSE WITHOUT

A ROOF”

Ozone layer is a fragile shield of gas that protects us from
harmful portions of radiation coming to earth from the
sun. The Ozone layer is depleting mostly because of human ac-
tivities nowadays. As well as we must ban the use of substances
that deplete the ozone layer. In order to create awareness among
people regarding the Ozone layer. In order to create awareness
among people regarding the need of the Ozone layer for our
survival, Campaigns are being run all over the world.

Accordingly the LEO club of University of Kelaniya, held a
competition coincided with the Ozone day to create awareness
among young undergraduates and to leave a message on the
society. The way LEOs had chosen to celebrate the Ozone day
was indeed a success.
As to give the future generation a proper understanding, a proper
knowledge about the importance of the Ozone layer for our
survival was greatly transmitted through this Ozone day 2020
celebrations competition. Under this competition LEOs
collected videos, flyers, posters, poems, cartoons and videos etc
from the youth. The content was rich with wonderful ideas and
thoughts of the people who took part in this competition.
The board members of the club came into the final decision of
selecting the best content from each category. It was an
onerous duty for them. Nevertheless, the aim of this competition
which was commemorating the world Ozone day was smoothly
achieved, And the creative and artistic ideas and thoughts of the
youth were also brought out in an effective manner, by leaving
the message to protect the Ozone Layer.

“THE DESIRE TO CREATE IS ONE OF THE
DEEPEST YEARNINGS OF HUMAN SOUL”

Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into
reality. Creativity is characterized by the ability to perceive the
world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connec-
tions between seemingly unrelated phenomena and to generate
solutions. Working, one with another, cooperating, As on a lit-
erary work is Collaborating. Once you c ollaborate your creativ-
ity with the others it becomes a moment to c herish.
All the great and wonderful hard work of the participants of this
competition helped to bring this competition to a success.

Request From The Ozone

Dear humans,
I’m the ozone,
Who fight with the sun in warzone.
You loved to sun
Go on a trip for fun
I protect you more than you wish
But you treated me like rubbish.
When you go by the car
I have a big scar.
You talk about warming.
Glaziers are melting.
Your skin will be damage
Can sunblock use for manage
I’m crying.. Do you hear?
You will not.... I’m swear..
Thanks for the virus
Now people are silence.
But soon you will get out from the yard.
I see my graveyard.
Stop hurting me.
Plant a tree.
Repair your car
It will cure my scar.
My beloved human,
Don’t act like inhuman.
Rubbish is not for burn.
When do you learn?
If you will not try
I will slowly die.
If you will not understand
No body will remain to stand.

In order for a movement of
young leaders who are com-
mitted to a cause that is bigger
than themselves to sustain, it is
mandatory to have a proper and
well-defined set of goals and fu-
ture plans. To turn their great-
er visions into a reality and to
spread out the message of pos-
itivity during these challeng-
ing as well as trying times, the
determined and enthusiastic
LEOs of University of Kelaniya
have taken some timely initia-
tives ensuring the well-being of
the society and its communities

Here is a glimpse into their fu-
ture expeditions which show-
case how young LEOs will be
taking responsibilities and
turning their future-forward vi-
sions into actions with positive
impacts to create a world that is
sustainable and peaceful.

Wildlife is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful compo-
nents of nature. Wild animals always add value to nature
while keeping it “alive”. However, the rapid increase of illegal
wildlife trade and the destruction of natural animal habitats
have threatened the existence of these magnificent creatures of
nature. Therefore, it is our responsibility to take actions to pre-
serve wildlife and thus preserve the planet earth.

Marking the World Animal Welfare Day, which is celebrated
annually on the 4th of October, the LEO Club of University
of Kelaniya has organized a photography and art competition
to raise the status of wild animals and improve animal welfare
standards. Moreover, it is expected to make the Sri Lankan so-
ciety aware of the importance of preserving wildlife and their
natural habitats. The creative forms of art will be used as an ef-
fective method to get the engagement of people to advocate the
better treatment of animals and work towards preserving these
wonderful creations of Mother Nature.

Presented by the Sustainable
Development and Interna-
tional Relations Avenue of the
LEO Club of University of Ke-
laniya, WHO AM I, is a You-
Tube interview series where
famous personalities repre-
senting different socio-cul-
tural backgrounds will be ex-
pressing their ideas regarding
gender equality, equal rights,
equal opportunities, and equal

responsibilities.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also
a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustain-
able world. In fact, there has been progress over the last decades:
more girls are going to school, fewer girls are forced into early
marriage, more women are serving in leadership positions, and
laws are being reformed to advance gender equality. Despite
these gains, many challenges remain intact: discriminatory laws
and social norms remain pervasive and women continue to be
underrepresented at all levels of political leadership. Therefore,
as a society, we still have a long journey ahead to create a world
where there are:

Do not let your curiosity frail away! Stay tuned. Await for an
insightful series of impactful sessions that will help you to

broaden your perspectives about a society where every
individualis bestowed with equal rights and opportunities.
