The ET-302 Memorial Monument & Park, inaugurated on March 10, 2025, on the sixth anniversary of the Ethiopian Airlines tragedy, stands as a powerful symbol of remembrance, healing, and unity. Designed by Alebel Desta Consulting Architects following an international competition, the memorial weaves architecture, landscape, and meaning into a space that honors the 157 victims through themes of absence, revelation, and healing.

Built with sensitivity, community engagement, and deep symbolism, the memorial invites reflection through carefully crafted spaces like the Main Monument, Healing Monument, Burial Ground, and Rock Garden. It is a moving testament to the resilience of the victims’ families and the enduring role of architecture in collective memory.

A collaborative triumph—funded by Boeing, supported by families, and realized by Ethiopian architects and builders—the memorial balances solemnity with hope. Its native vegetation, solar panels, and vernacular stone circles root it in place, while offering a universal space for reflection.

More than a monument, it’s a living testament to resilience, where memory takes flight amid the quiet fields of Gimbichu.

May the souls of the 157 victims rest in peace!
