It is impossible to imagine the existence of any life form on the face of the earth without the trees. The trees provide us daily based benefits. Teaching kids about trees is a step in an earth friendly direction. It does not mean training them to memorise random facts. Approaching to the benefits brings the lesson or activities to the level of the child. If the child feels that the information at hand directly affects or applies to them they are more likely to eagerly accept it. The unit “ Trees Our Friends” was put into action by a walk into the woods, identifying different parts and types of plants there. It was one big step towards fostering eco consciousness in the next generation kids. This war, against the 35 Frontier Forces, he said was one of the deadliest wars fought in the annals of military history. While talking about the courage and pluck shown by the troops of 3 Grenadiers, he emphasised upon the illustrious history of the battalion and the significant role of the troops in capturing the Jarpal sector which was a pivotal position for carrying out further operations. He stated that it was the strategic formation by the troops which led to the launch attack into Pakistan. various international communities on the aforementioned meeting. Ms Ritu Pandit shared with the students her childhood episodes of being a daughter of an army officer and enjoying life in a cantonment. She told the students that her father Lt Gen V P Airy was always a supportive senior and never failed to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of his fellowmen. The commendable contributions and the gallantry actions of her father always made her incredibly proud of him. Recollecting the memories of the serious affairs of the war, she said, as a child it always seemed like a fun time seeing the trenches being dug, training of how to jump into them, ladies covering the window panes with black chart papers, headlights of scooters and cars being painted, loud sirens at night, the blackouts and the early winter vacations. Amidst all this, she says the regimental life seemed like living within a big family and accomplishing an adventure every day. Maj Gen Ajay Singh Chauhan interacted with the students and shared his experience of being posted in the second longest glacier in the World’s Non-Polar areas – Siachen Glacier. He told the students about the hardships that one has to face and withstand extreme weather conditions where survival is a challenge every day. He also described the flora and fauna of Siachen and said that the serene looking white stretch of hard ice is undoubtedly full of vagaries which are unavoidable. He also talked about the snow craft training which a soldier has to undergo before he is inducted in this area. He narrated the heroic attitude of the boys of his battalion by sharing an incident wherein he and his soldiers could rescue one of their men who got buried 50 feet deep in the hard ice. He also talked about his experience of serving in an insurgency environment in the Northeast. Session culminated with a Q & A session. It was the most interactive part of the session where the eminent speakers tried to answer the inquisitive questions of the students. They talked about the success mantras- ‘Training, Trust and Practice,’ which every individual should follow to be a true leader. They highlighted upon the need of mental agility, steadfast dedication and a sense of brotherhood to be able to fit in the frame of a soldier. The speakers also discussed about the new avenues that have opened for female candidates in the armed forces and motivated the girl students to be a part of this valiant profession. The adventurous experiences of the speakers in the face of death were the valuable takeaways drawn out by the students. The daring and courageous real-life stories of the warriors instilled a feeling of pride amongst the students and motivated them to join the forces. It is true that lessons learnt early in life stay etched forever. Each one of us live by our own set of values in life. They help us with decision making and guide us through every day. Maintaining good code of conduct in life is the key to living happily and authentically. Today, in the age of information and technology, our children are going far from these values and hence we are advancing materially but lagging behind in terms of ethics and morals. There is a dire need of values which we must inculcate among our children. Grandparents and the stories that they narrate is one big source to instil these ethos among the children. Listening to the grandparents telling stories of different people who did ‘the right thing’ teach children to be like those characters. One such ceremonial occasion to nurture this relationship and to bring children closer to books was held in Delhi Public School, Pal Road in which people witnessed celebration of Sanskaar Diwas “Samanvay Sanskaron Ka”. The day was filled with oodles of blessings, happy faces, excitement and cheer. The event encompassed two days Fac eb ook Fa Delhi Public School, Jodhpur Home
