that they can still be productive amidst their condition as they
effectively work to provide for the needs of their families.
A total of 56 individuals with disabilities were given the chance to
live a normal life and work harmoniously in a cooperative in Agusan del
Sur. This cooperative started in October 21, 1999 which aims to sere
and meet the needs of the persons with disabilities by enhancing and
developing their skills and knowledge to become productive citizen in
the community.
These individuals can effectively produce 150 chairs a day and hit
their everyday target using their dedication and determination to work.
In a world full of judgments, this organization opens its door to
differently-abled individuals giving them hope and chance to live a
normal life.

The community is far from the municipal proper and can only be accessed
through motorcycle. The road may be tough but the efforts were all worth it
as you are welcomed by very wonderful people bound by their advocacy to
protect, conserve, and nurture the environment.

“This place was once a ghost town. Now, there
is already a established community through the
National Greening Program. So far, this is the
only program of the government that reached
the hinterland and upland communities,
especially to the Indigenous People. This
community is surrounded by sites under the
NGP. This program brought back the trust of the
people to the government.”

“Mangroves are beneficial to communities living
within the coastal areas. We were able to capture
more fish and crabs because of the increase in our
mangrove forest cover. Through the National
Greening Program, we were able to protect and
conserve our mangrove forest. In return, we assure
that we will protect it to the best of our abilities. We
already have rotation of people to conduct patrols to
be able to stop the cutting of mangroves and illegal
fishing within our area.”
