CHAPTER 4

The Way Forward

The National Greening Program has been one of the most successful programs of
the agency. This is an effective tool in climate change mitigation and adaptation. Aside from
environmental benefits, it continues to uplift the lives of the people.

This paves the way to the signing of Executive Order No. 193 entitled “Expanding
the Coverage of the National Greening Program”. This is in line with the international
commitment of the Philippines to reduce its carbon emission and help combat climate
change.

Under EO 193, the coverage of the program was expanded to cover all the
remaining unproductive, denuded and degraded forestlands of the Philippines and its
period of implementation was extended from 2016 to 2028.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Caraga is expecting for
greater numbers of success stories for the coming years. Hundreds of beneficiaries and
thousands of land are expected to be mobilized and developed for the next 12 years of
implementation of the National Greening Program.

The agency will continue to intensify its information, education, and communication
campaign to increase the level of awareness of the people, create partnership and mutual
trust, and capacitate the communities in the advocacy to protect and conserve our
environment and natural resources.

Acknowledgement

On behalf of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Caraga, I gratefully
acknowledge all our partners in our advocacy in protection and conservation of our environment especially
in the National Greening Program.

We owe the success of this program to our hard working employees and the people behind every
People’s Organization who served as our beneficiaries in this program. I would like to thank everyone for
supporting this undertaking. May we continue our efforts on greening Caraga Region.

I also acknowledge the efforts of various stakeholders who continuously support our programs since
the implementation of Executive Order No. 23 or the Anti-Illegal Logging Campaign until the reforestation
efforts through the implementation of Executive Order No. 26 or the National Greening Program. These are
the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, Academe, Religious Sector, Indigenous People (IPs),
Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Local Government Units (LGUs), public and private sectors, and
other government agencies.

We humbly declare our sincere thanks to all of you. May we still share the same advocacy as we
implement Executive Order No. 193 or the expansion of the National Greening Program until 2028.

Of course, I would also like to acknowledge the people behind the publication of this book. The
efforts of the staffs from the Regional Public Affairs Office together with the Conservation and Development
Division really paid off as we have been able to publish a book that connects to the hearts of the people.
Different stories of success portrayed by photographs that speaks a thousand words.

This book is an initiative of DENR Caraga Regional Director Nonito M. Tamayo with his desire to let
other people see what is in store for them in the future and to be able to acknowledge the efforts of our
beneficiaries in saving our environment.

Let us all look forward for a greener and healthier future. Thank you.
