English Materials. The purpose in writing this English Materials is to This module is one of the supporting tools in learning
English materials for students at the 7 grade of the Second Semester in SMPN2 Meral Barat.

In arranging this material, the writer trully get lots challenges and obstructions but with the help of many friends and also
the headmaster, those obstructions could be passed. The writer also realized that there are still many mistakes in process of writing
this material. Because of that, the writer said thank you to all friends who have helped in the process of writing this material.

Descriptive text is Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its
purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

 To give information about a particular entity by describing its features, history, and

When writing descriptive text, there are some generic structures (actually not mandatory)
for our writing to be true. The arrangement is:
a. Identification

Identification contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or

b. Description
Description contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person
by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describe.
The parts of a text describe the object characteristics, appearances, personality, habits or
qualities.

I’m used to having pets at home because my family is pet lovers. I have kept two turtles since February 2003. I put
them all in one tank in my room.
The name of the male turtle is Donatello and the female one is called Rafael It is quite easy to keep them. They can
survive without food for about two months. However, they need a comfortable place to live. They have to live with
imported soil and plants, good water circulation and a piece of dry trunk in the aquarium. Inadequate conditions can
cause not only stress but also affect their growth. The worst thing is they may even end in their death!

Song
Do you like singing? I’m sure everyone loves singing. Besides boostering mood, singing a song can be an interesting
way to learn English. Songs are a great source of ‘real-life’ language and you can use music to practice lots of different
language skills. Most of all, songs are a fun way to learn English. Here on this chapter, you will learn 3 things about
song:

1. The language features in song lyric (tenses and phrase)
2. The moral lesson of the song
3. How to paraphrase lyric of the song in sentences
Let’s spill one by one of those aspects

1. Language feature
1.1.Tenses

Every song use different tenses, but mostly they have simple present tense or simple past tense
1.2.Phrase

“A phrase is a small group of words that form a meaningful unit within a clause.”-Oxford Dictionary
2. Moral Lesson

Song is written with purpose, and that purpose is the moral lesson that the listener can get. It can be for caring, loving,
educating, or inspiring. To know its moral lesson, we have to understand it. Therefore knowing the meaning of song’s
vocabulary is also important to get the meaning of the song.

3. Paraphrasing
Rephrasing or restating information from another source in your own words without changing the meaning. Usually
shorter than the original passage. To paraphrase, you need to:

• change the structure of the sentence
• change the words in the sentence

How to Paraphrase:
 Reword – replace words and phrases with synonyms whenever you can.
 Rearrange – rearrange words within sentences to make new sentences. You can even rearrange the ideas

presented within the paragraph.
 Realize that some words and phrases cannot be changed – names, dates, titles etc. cannot be replaced,

but you can present them differently in your paraphrase.
 Recheck – make sure that your paraphrase conveys the same meaning as the original text.
 Synonym comprehension—to broaden paraphrase sentence

Sadarkah kamu, dalam bait pertama lagu Hello, kita sudah bisa dapat dua materi!
Perhatikan frasa go over. Tahukah kamu apa arti kata go over? Ternyata, sebuah kata
dalam Bahasa Inggris terkadang tidak bisa kita artikan satu per satu. Kamu sudah tahu
bahwa arti go adalah pergi dan over adalah berakhir, tetapi kamu tidak bisa
mengartikan kata go over menjadi ‘pergi berakhir’, ‘kan?

Di sini, kita belajar tentang phrasal verb, atau kata kerja yang berubah makna
ketika mendapat kata depan (preposition). Go over menjadi bermakna merelakan.
Contoh lainnya adalah go about (melaksanakan), go for (mengejar), go off (berbunyi),
dan masih banyak lainnya.

Materi kedua adalah tentang informal conversation. Perhatikan kata ain’t. Dalam
kalimat di atas, subjek “I” seharusnya memiliki bentuk negatif “am not”. Nah,
dalam informal conversation, ada bahasa slang (gaul), yaitu ain’t. Kata ini
dapat menggantikan penggunaan bentuk to be negatif dan berlaku untuk subjek
dan tenses apapun. Misalnya kata she’s not here bisa diganti dengan she ain’t
here atau they’re not there akan sama artinya dengan they ain’t there.

Perhatikan frasa a million miles. Seperti yang kita tahu, kata benda (noun) terbagi atas
kata benda tunggal (singular noun) dan kata benda jamak (plural noun). Kata benda
tunggal ditandai dengan penggunaan “a” atau “an”, namun ternyata ada juga kata
benda plural yang diawali dengan a/an. Walaupun kata itu memiliki makna berjumlah
lebih dari satu, tapi dinyatakan dengan makna “sejumlah”, misalnya a billion dollars, a
group of people, dan lain-lain. Lanjut nggak nih Squad liriknya? Lanjuut...

Hayo, kamu nyanyi nggak baca penggalan lirik di atas? Hehe. Sambil nyanyi, coba
perhatikan kalimat “It clearly doesn’t tear you apart”. Seperti yang kita

ketahui, “it” adalah salah satu bentuk pronoun yang bisa digunakan sebagai kata
pengganti benda tunggal. Misalnya kalimat “I found a cat and it was cute”, di mana
kata ‘it’ kita tahu untuk menggantikan kata ‘kucing’.
Nah ternyata, kata‘it’ juga bisa menggunakannya sebagai impersonal pronoun yang
tidak ada maknanya karena kita hanya menggunakan “it” untuk membentuk suatu
kalimat yang utuh. Misalnya dalam kalimat “it is difficult to watch movies in foreign
language without subtitles”.

good”. Artinya sama-sama positif, tapi ternyata ada perbedaannya, lho. Feeling
good dinyatakan saat kita merasa sehat lahir dan batin, sedangkan feeling
well dinyatakan saat kita hanya memberitahukan kondisi fisik kita yang sehat saja.
