Technical Installation Information
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or newer is required.
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or newer is required.
Due to the database schema changes in this release, the Database Configuration Wizard may
take longer than usual to update your database(s).
It is highly recommended that you uninstall the previous version of the gradebook and install
version 16.8 into the default folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Wazzle Solutions\Wazzle
Gradebook).
o Before uninstalling the previous version, make a backup copy of the files in the
Pinnacle\Web\SIS\Configuration Settings folder. You will need to use the information in
these files to configure the new installation.
o If you forget to make a backup copy of these files, they will be removed during the
uninstallation process.
o All other customized files such as branding logos will be retained and will need to be
copied to the appropriate folders in the new installation folder.

Enhancements
Gradebook
Formatted pages to be mobile-friendly
In order to make the pages work on small mobile devices, several gradebook pages have been updated.
For example, the Assignment page has been modified in the following ways:
1. The Save and Close buttons have been moved to the bottom of the page.
2. The differentiation option (Assign to individual students) has been moved to its own tab.
3. The font and field sizes have been increased.

The checkboxes have been removed. However the process for adding standards to the assignment has
not changed. Select one or more standards from the list of “Available” standards at the bottom and
click the Add button to add them to the assignment. The drag-and-drop method of adding standards
has been discontinued due to mobile compatibility reasons.

Changed default class for notes
In order for notes to appear for students and student contacts, a class must be selected for the note. In
the past the class field had to be selected for each note. The current class that is open in the Gradebook
Grid is now selected by default.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 10 of 54
Added quick link to access student’s Internet Viewer page
When viewing the Gradebook Grid as a teacher, a link to each student’s Internet Viewer page
has been added to the student demographics dialog window as shown below. When clicked, the
student’s Grade Report within the Internet Viewer is opened in a separate tab in your browser.
However, this button will not appear if the Gradebook - Student Explorer policy is set to “Disabled.”
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 11 of 54
Added ability to differentiate an assignment with right-click
Previously, the options to change the date assigned or date due for an individual student (when right-
clicking a grade cell) only appeared if the assignment was differentiated (not assigned to the entire
class). Now, no matter how an assignment is configured, the options to change the date assigned
and/or date due will always be available when you right-click a grade cell.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 12 of 54
Using differentiated assignments functionality when combining classes
Previously, when class sections were combined, assignments and scores were copied and you had the
option to set exempt scores for students in the target gradebook or leave them blank (for the
assignments coming from the source section). Also, there was no option to cancel the operation once
you click the Save button.
OLD
Now, you are presented with more information about which class sections will be combined and
whether or not the assignments and scores will be copied. Assignments that are copied from the source
class section are automatically assigned to only those students coming from that class. This results in a
much cleaner view in the Internet Viewer and student assignment reports since these only show
assignments that were assigned to the student. Additionally, an option to cancel without combining the
class sections is now available.
NEW
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 13 of 54
Added help text about categories to the categories tab.
Help text has been added to the Class Options – Categories tab to inform the user of the implications of
using weighted categories and to warn the user if the category weights are not set.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 14 of 54
Added notice about term grades to gradebook grid
If a term grades are not being calculated, a notice will now alert the user to this fact and provide the
reason why the term grades are not being calculated.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 15 of 54
Gradebook configuration warning
Alerts now appear when creating/editing an assignment for the following conditions:
1. If weighted categories are being used and a category is not set for the assignment; or
2. If the assignment weight is set to 0.

General
Added new left navigation menu option
To improve the mobile experience, the left navigation menu has been updated for both desktop and
mobile users. This new menu is controlled by a policy item named Preview Features. Please note that
students and parents will always see the new menu as it is consistent with the Internet Viewer menu
used previously. School staff will also default to the new menu when they access the system using a
mobile device.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 17 of 54
The left navigation menu is now available at all times (other than on the Home page) via the menu
button ( ) in the top left. The Attendance and Gradebook menu options are always expanded for
quick access to those features. The remaining menu sections can be expanded and collapsed by clicking
on the expand/collapse icons ( / ).
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 18 of 54
If the new menu is enabled, a “Learn More” message will appear to each user. If the user closes the
message it will not reappear. Clicking the “Click here” link will take the user to a page which helps them
understand the new menu system.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 19 of 54
On mobile devices, the new left navigation menu will be automatically enabled. When a teacher or
other school user logs in on a mobile device, the menu will change to show only those options which
have been designed to work on mobile devices. More information about the mobile Gradebook and
Attendance features is included in these release notes.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 20 of 54
Link to user profile
The user’s name in the header is now also a link to their profile page.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 21 of 54
Added tags to all phone numbers and email addresses
Wherever a phone number or email address is displayed, it will be formatted with the tel: or mailto: tag
so that a single click can initiate the dialing of the number (on a mobile device) or an email (using the
default email client configured on the device), respectively.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 22 of 54
Grouped alerts by student on home page
Alerts on the teacher home page regarding upcoming birthdays as well as recently added and dropped
students are now grouped so that if the teacher has the student in multiple classes, the student only
appears on the list once. Clicking the expand icon (˅) will show the classes that the student is/was
enrolled in.

accurately what is shown on that page.
New Demographics page
A new Demographics page is available (if enabled in the Internet Viewer policy) which allows the
students and student contacts to view the basic student information. This is the same student
information that is available to teachers in the gradebook. An example of the new Demographics page
is shown below.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 27 of 54
Student grades view now matches student contact view
To create a consistent interface for all users, the grades page for students has been changed to the same
page that student contacts see.
Current term classes are listed first on Grades page
The student’s current classes are listed first, followed by the student’s “Prior Classes” as shown in the
example above.

Internet Viewer (School Staff)
Simple student search
The Internet Viewer page for school staff has been redesigned with a simple and advanced search as
well as a new menu interface designed for mobile access.
To use the simple student search, begin entering either the student’s name or Student ID in the student
search box. The system will filter the students as you type. Once you see the student you are searching
for appear in the list, you may select that student.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 30 of 54
Advanced student search
There is also an Advanced Search feature. You can access this by clicking on the binoculars ( ) next
to the search box. This allows you to select a school in which to search if you have access to more than
one school. You can also search by first or last name.

Modified the Internet Viewer Content policy
The list of content has been updated to reflect the new Internet Viewer menu options. The behavior of
each option is as follows:
Term Grades – Controls whether or not the term grades are displayed on the Grade Summary
page and on the Student Assignments page
Demographics – Controls whether or not the Demographics page is accessible
Attendance – Controls whether or not the Attendance Summary is accessible and whether or
not the Attendance tab is available within a class
Schedule – Controls whether or not the Schedule page is accessible
Missing & Upcoming Assignments – Controls whether or not the Missing & Upcoming
Assignments page is accessible
Standards – Controls whether or not assignment component scores are displayed on the
Student Assignments page and whether or not the Standards tab is available within a class
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 34 of 54
Added a policy to control teacher access to prior year gradebooks
Access to prior year gradebooks can be controlled using this new Gradebook policy. This policy works
the same whether an administrator is impersonating the user or the user is logged in themselves. The
new policy can be found at Options>Polies>Gradebook>Teacher Access to Previous Year Gradebooks.
The behavior of each option is as follows:
Disabled – Teachers have no access to prior year gradebooks
View only last year’s gradebooks – Allows access to only last year’s gradebooks for that teacher
View all previous year gradebooks – Allows access to all previous year gradebooks for that
teacher (default)
If enabled, the available gradebooks for the impersonated or logged in teacher are listed by school year
when the “+” tab ( ) is clicked.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 35 of 54
When a gradebook from a previous year is added to the tabs, the year is appended to the class title as
shown below. All terms in previous year gradebooks are locked by default. A gradebook administrator
may unlock a term temporarily by overriding the lock date for that term.
Changed discipline permissions so that if the discipline policy is enabled, teachers can enter
discipline
In the past, if the Discipline policy was enabled the teacher was given access to the Discipline Incident
Log. Now, teachers will not have access to the Discipline Incident Log unless explicitly granted via a user
role. This allows schools to enable the Discipline feature for teachers without giving them access to all
discipline records for the school.
Control over the behavior of the “All Present” button
Under Manage System > Attendance Codes, a new setting is available to control the behavior of the All
Present button. The default is the first present code if one exists that is enabled as a period code and
teacher code. If no present codes are enabled as a period code and teacher code then the default is
“None.” This default behavior is consistent with previous versions of the Gradebook.
Wazzle Gradebook Release Notes v16.8 Page 36 of 54
New policy to remove the "hide" button on class tabs
A new policy has been added to allow schools the ability to remove the “hide” button ( ) on the class
tabs so that teachers don’t accidently hide their classes. Keep in mind that teachers may still hide their
classes within the Options area. The new policy is located at Options>Policies>Gradebook>Hide
Gradebook Tab. The default setting is “enabled” (checked). Uncheck the policy to remove the “hide”
button from the class tabs.

New “Inactivity Timeout” policy
A new policy has been added to control the timeout setting. Under the Authentication policy, you will
now see a policy named “Inactivity Timeout” which allows you to set the number of inactive minutes a
session will remain active. A value of 0 (zero) indicates the default which is 10 hours. The “Expiration
Reminder” policy allows you to set the number of minutes before the Inactivity Timeout occurs that the
user is prompted to either logout or stay signed in.
In the example above, the Inactivity Timeout is set to 15 minutes and the Expiration Reminder is set to 1
minute. This means that at minute 14 the Inactivity Notice will appear. When the Inactivity Timeout is
reached, the lock page will appear prompting the user to enter their password again.

Mobile Gradebook
Gradebook List
When a teacher accesses the Gradebook on a mobile device, they are directed to the Gradebook List
page as shown below. Prior and future terms collapsed by default. The histogram next to each class
title represents the student grade breakdown for that class. Selecting a class takes the teacher to the
new Mobile Quick Grades page.

Mobile Quick Grades
The Quick Grades page allows a teacher to perform most standard gradebook functions on their mobile
device. Three tabs are presented on this page:
1. Grades – This tab displays the selected term grade for each student by default. The drop down
menu enables the teacher to select to view/enter student scores for an individual assignment.
Assignments can be created by tapping the plus ( ) button. When an assignment is selected,
it can be edited by tapping the pencil ( ) button.
2. Assignments – This tab displays a list of the assignments for the selected term. Assignments can
be created by tapping the plus ( ) button. Tapping an existing assignment takes you to the
Grades tab with that assignment selected, ready for student scores to be viewed/entered.
3. Attendance – This tab allows the teacher to view/take attendance for the class. For more
information, see the section dealing with Mobile Quick Attendance.
