The YMCA Black Achievers Program was developed in 1971 by members of the New York Harlem YMCA to order to motivate young African-Americans toward setting educational and career goals. In the year 2000, the Hayes-Taylor Memorial YMCA Black Achievers Program of Greater Greensboro was organized to provide ongoing career development and educational guidance programs specifically for area under-served youth in grades 8-12.
Today, the Hayes-Taylor YMCA Achievers Program continues in this tradition with a multi- ethnic effort to promote career exploration, academic enhancement, teach leadership and communication skills. And provide exposure to various educational experiences for middle and high school students. The program concentrates on creating an ongoing interaction between youth and adult role models in order for youth to be positively influenced and inspired to attain higher education, develop career goals and life skills.
