Hello Readers,
Mathematics has always been a controversial
topic. Some people can’t bear it while others
love it. It is not just numbers on a page though,
it is an entire world…
And it is beautiful.
I would like to thank you for taking time off to
flip through this magazine. I really appreciate
it and hope you enjoy the experience.

Dear Readers,

This edition contains articles related to Maths from
the middle and senior school.
Our student editors have done a wonderful job and
this edition is a milestone crossed in our
department.
The editorial team owes its gratitude to the
Principal, Mr. Michael Guzder, and Headmaster Dr.

THE ULAM CLOTH

The Ulam cloth, or prime spiral is a simple method of
visualizing the prime numbers that reveals the apparent
tendency of certain quadratic polynomials to generate
unusually large numbers of primes. It starts off with the

primes represented by dots and gradually spirals off.

The Most Beautiful Equation in The
World

Euler's identity is regularly chosen as the most
beautiful in existence. It isn't just an equation, it's
the haiku of mathematics. It's the only artwork that

can objectively prove itself true.
The fact that this equation includes pi, e, 1 and 0

makes it not only extremely beautiful but also
fascinating as it seem to make a link between

distinct branches of mathematics.

Some cool Math Facts

? ZERO is the only number which is known with
so many names including nought, naught, nil,
zilch, zip and cipher.

? Pi (The ratio of the circumference to the
diameter of a circle) can’t be expressed as a
fraction, making it an irrational number. It
never repeats and never ends when written as a
decimal.

? What comes after a million?
? Billion, Trillion, Quadrillion, Quintillion,

Sextillion, Septillion,Octillion, Nonillion,
Decillion and Undecillion.
? The name of the popular search engine ‘Google’
came from a misspelling of the word ‘googol’,
which is a very large number (the number one
followed by one hundred zeros to be exact).
? The opposite sides of a dice always add up to
seven.
? Among all shapes with the same area circle has
the shortest perimeter.

Hack your way with Vedic Math

Vedic math was introduced thousands of years ago .These methods of
addition, subtraction and multiplication can be used to solve sums
faster. They might even be faster than abacus.

Here is one:

The condition is that the ones digits must add up to 10. If you have to
multiply 82 with 88 you can use this method. However, if you want to
multiply 83 with 80, you can’t use this method as the ones digit
doesn’t add up to ten.

If we are multiplying 82x88

1. We know that the ones digit adds up to 10
2. Now we should multiply like this :
? Multiply the ones digit with the next number
? Eg ( in this case = 8 x (8+1) = 8x9 = 72
? 72 is the first part of our answer.
? Simply multiply the ones digit ( eg in this case it is 2x8 = 16)
? 16 is the second part of our answer.
? Now join the 2 parts and we get the answer, i.e. 7216.

However, with this method we can only multiply numbers who’s
one’s sum ends in 10.

DID YOU KNOW?
1. A pizza that has radius “z” and
height “a” has volume Pi × z × z
× a.

2. In a room of just 23 people there’s a
50% chance that two people have
the same birthday.

3. (.9999999999999999999 = 1)

Here’s how-

If 10N = 9.9999…
Then N = .9999….
Subtract N from 10N, leaving you with 9N=9.
So then N=1. But we already know that
N=.9999… as well.
So 1=.9999….

4. ZERO is the only number which is known
with so many names including nought,
naught, nil, zilch and zip.

5. From number 0 to 1000, the letter 'A'
only appears in 1000 (One thousand)

HMMM…WANT TO FIND OUT YOUR
BIRTH DATE WITH MATHEMATICS???

Step1: Add 18 to your birth month.
Step2: Multiply by 25.
Step3: Subtract 333.
Step4: Multiply by 8.
step5: Subtract 554.
step6: Divide by 2.
step7: Add your birth date.
step8: Multiply by 5.
step9: Add 692.
step10: Multiply by 20.
step11: Add only the last two digits of your birth year.
step12: Subtract 32940 to get your birthday!.

Example: If the answer is 123199 means that you were born on
December 31, 1999.

HERE IS ANOTHER EQUATION WHICH
WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

The equation above was formulated by
Einstein as part of his groundbreaking general
theory of relativity and it describes ‘Space’.
The right-hand side of this equation describes
the energy contents of our universe while the
left-hand side describes the geometry of
space-time.
