3 Jesus’ Promise of Rest READCome to MeA few possible next stepsAre you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Do you long for deep rest in our deeply divided, increasingly violent country and world? Take a few moments each day to read, reflect, practice, and pray…REFLECTPRACTICEPRAYJesus calls us to himself, not just to his gospel, his teaching, or his church. Therefore, as we begin our series on Jesus’ promise of rest in Matthew 11:28-30, we’ll read stories about Jesus calling others (and us!) to follow him.Monday: Matthew 4:18-22Tuesday: Matthew 9:9-13Wednesday: Matthew 11:25-30Thursday: Matthew 16:24-17:8Friday: Matthew 28:16-20Sunday: Catch up on your reading! After reading the passages above, take a moment to reflect on the following questions:• Who does Jesus call in this passage?• What exactly did he invite them to do?• How is Jesus’ word to them a word to me today? In other words, what do I need to do because I believe?Use your imagination to picture the story you just read, placing yourself among those directly called by Jesus. Remember that Jesus describes his heart as “gentle and humble.” Try to picture his face as he looks at you, loves you, and calls you. He is not harsh. He’s not haughty. He knows you. He loves you. He is calling you. Take a moment to rest in his presence.Lord Jesus, help me hear your call and come to you. Free my neck from every yoke – every teaching, assumption, worry, or challenge – that weighs me down and wears me out. Set me free for yourself, your kingdom, your glory, your mission, and your love. Thank you. Amen!

5Mission of the Month for June is the Bishop's Appeal for UMC 2026Communion for May will be on Sunday, June 7. On Communion Sundays, a special oering is taken to support a Mission of Cannon Church. The Special Oering and Mission of the Month for June will go to support the Bishop's Appeal which focuses on raising vital funds for The Endowment for Theological Education outside the United States, providing permanent scholarships for emerging pastors in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines.
