Water Festival (Songkran)
Where: Everywhere in Thailand
When: 13th to 15th of April
• Songkran is Thailand’s most famous festival.
• Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year (holiday).
• Songkran is the biggest, longest and funniest festival in Thailand.
• Songkran takes place throughout the whole country.
Ghost Festival (Phi Ta Khon)
Where: Dan Sai, Loei province. (The north-east of Thailand or Esan)
When: June or July
• Phi Ta Khon is one of the strangest and creepiest festivals in
Thailand.
• Held 3 days on weekend: parades on Friday, music shows on
Saturday and Buddhist ceremonies on Sunday.
• Local people made colorful ghost masks and celebrate Buddhist
merit-making holiday.
Rocket Festival (Boon Bang Fai)
Where: Yasothorn Province
When: June or July
• Boon Bang Fai is celebrated by the farming communities of Esan as
well as Laos.
• It starts in the wet season (Rainy season)
• Boon Bang Fai is the biggest party before planting season begins.
Lantern Festival (Yi Peng)
Where: Chiang Mai (The north of Thailand)
When: November
• Lantern Festival is celebrated before Loy Krathong festival .
• Yi Peng is celebrated on the full moon of the twelfth lunar
month every year.

FLOATING FESTIVAL (Loy Kratong)
When: in November
Where: Everywhere in Thailand
• Loy Krathong is on the night of the 12th lunar month at the end
of the rainy season.
• Time to thank the Water Goddess for giving water throughout
the year as well as an apology for polluting the waters.
Bun Phawet
• When: around March to April
• Where: in Esan mostly in Roi-Et
