Abstract :
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the problem-based learning (PBL) on the stu-
dents‘ success in using English to express ideas and opinions. 40 Form 4 students were randomly
assigned to either an experimental group (20 students) where project-based learning was used or a
control group (20 students) in which conventional teaching method was used. Data was obtained. The
significant difference between the two groups in terms of students‘ total scores was in favour of the PBL
group and showed that PBL was effective on students‘ communication and written skills achievement.
Project-based learning is a popular teaching practice built around student-driven projects, done either
independently or collaboratively, that are often shared with one or more groups of students. This way,
students are encouraged to learn by doing group work, which may lead to more interest, excitement,
and energy in the classroom or outside the classroom. It is very closely associated with 21st century
learning skills where new technology in the classroom is improving its potential exponentially.

Abstract :
Essay writing has always been one of the major problems among low proficiency students. These students attribute
their inability to produce coherent composition to the fact that they have limited vocabulary and their lack of ideas of
what to write. In my view, I believe that each student must have some ideas at least, as each one of us is equipped
with our life experiences, however what they fail to do is to deliver the ideas in English and organize their thoughts
appropriately. Therefore, if there is a method which could help these low proficiency students to do these, using
limited vocabulary, then maybe we can help them to transpire their experience in their writing and thus allow them to
write better factual essays. This paper will explore the possibility of using REXAMPFIT THREADVICE method as a
framework to help students organize their thoughts and ideas, so that they can produce a factual essay even though
they have limited vocabulary
