SPECIAL SERVICE MEDAL


a. Basic Documents :

Decree NO ISo/ sLl cT, I2 May I964.

b. Purpose:

The Special Service Medal is -awarded or posthumously awarded to military
personnel and government civilian employees who have distinguished themselves ~y
extraordmo ary- deeds or have accomplished an important mission that involved a rzsk
of life and required exceptional fortitude and aggressiveness.

The Special Service Medal is also presented to foreign military personnel serving
by the side of RVNAF units who meet the requirements stated above.

Vietnamese and foreign civilians may be awarded the Special Service Medal if they
fillfill the prescribed requI°rements and the accomp1I°Shment 0 f the mission is beneficial
to the wa; effort.

c. Class:

The Special Service Medal has only one class.

The Gallantry Cross is awarded or posthumolisly awarded to military personnell

b. Purpose:

The Air Gallantry Cross is awarded or posthumousty awarded to flying personll~1
in the RVN Air Force, who have been cited at the Squadron,. Tac~ical ~ing, or All
Force level for their display of heroism and exceptional bravery In flIght or In extremely
dangerous situations.

The Air Gallantry Cross is also intended for civilian flying personnel serving i.n
the RVN Air Force and foreign flying personnel serving by the side of the RVN Air
Force who meet the requirements prescribed above.

c. Classes:

The Air Gallantry Cross has three classes:

- Air Gallantry Cross with Gold Wing : Air Force level.

b. Purpose:

The Navy Gallantry Cross is awarded or posthumolisly awarded to servicemen 0/
the Republic of Vietnam Navy who have been cited for their coolness and heroism whit,
their vessel was underway and in distress due to a technical failure, foul weather
conditions, or due to combat at the peril of one/s life.

The Navy Gallantry Cross is also intended for civilian crew members in the RVN
Navy and foreign crew members serving by the side of the RVN Navy who meet the
requirements stated above.

c. Classes:

The Navy Gallantry Cross has three classes

Navy Gallantry Cross with Gold Anchor.

Navy Gallantry Cross with Silver Anchor.

Navy Gallantry Cross with Bronze Anchor.

b. Purpose =

The Hazardous Serllice Medal is awarded ot posthumously awarded to military
personnel who meet one of the following requirements:

Have displayed heroism in the protection of government properties or the life
of government officials.
Have long endured danger to accomplish a strategic mission in a remote area

under constant enemy threat.

Have proved their enthusiasm and determination in the accomplishment of a

relatively dangerous mission not involving direct participation in combat.

The Hazardous Service Medal is also intended for foreign military personnel who
meet one of the requirements prescribed above and whose accamplished mission is bene.
ficial to the RVNAF.

c. Class:

The Hazardous Service Medal has only one class.
