July Fireworks presentation in Eureka.

Ken Bates, Humboldt Fisherman’s Association presented a report on fishing industry
infrastructure in Humboldt Bay.

Mark Sanchez presented information regarding the Global War on Terror Wall of
Remembrance exhibit which will be on display at Carson Park, May 30 – June 1, 2014.
Miles Slattery, Parks and Recreation Director, provided information regarding the 8th
Annual May Day Clean-up in Eureka on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

Chuck Dominick, President of Sequoia Park Zoo Foundation invited the Council and public
to attend the 8th Annual “Brew at the Zoo” event, Saturday, May 10, 2014.

On behalf of Mayor Jäger, Councilmember Marian Brady presented a proclamation for
National Bike Month to Melody Mallick, Brad Albee, Kim Bergel and Adam Stewart.

Councilmember Mike L. Newman presented a proclamation for National Assoication of
Letter Carriers’ Food Drive Day,

Councilmember Melinda Ciarabellini presented a proclamation for Peace Officers’
Memorial Recognition to Police Chief Andrew Mills, Captain Len Johnson, Captain Tony
Zanotti, and Sergeant Bill Nova.

Alice Birney Elementary School, Bike Club members presented information that they
had learned as part of their membership in the Bike Club. Lindsay Watkins, 3rd grade
teacher with Alice Birney invited the Council to attend their “Bike to School Day” on May
7, 2014.

Councilmember Albin provided a report regarding his recent visit to the “Blue Ox Mill”
located in Eureka and invited the community to also visit the mill.

ACTION:

City Manager Greg Sparks provided a report along with Assistant City Manager, Mike
Knight, Fire Chief Ken Woods and Police Chief Andy Mills. The following individuals

Charlie Bean, Eureka

Council directed staff to prepare the necessary ordinance and resolutions to place an
extension of the Supplemental Transaction and Use Tax on the November 4, 2014 ballot
with a 5 year sunset clause.

Adopted on motion by Councilmember Newman, seconded by Councilmember Atkins, and
the following vote:
