copenhagen fashion week AW20 Copenhagen may have been once
known as one of Fashion Week’s

of years it’s hosted some of the

GANNI to Cecile Bahnsen, and this
issue 12 year has been especially exciting —

Whilst sustainability in fashion has
been increasingly crucial, Copenhagen
have gone the extra mile to dedicate
their whole fashion week to the cause,
with their Sustainability Action Plan
2020-2022. This week has been
devoted to ‘reducing negative

However, I struggled to see a
single piece that got me excited
for their next autumn/winter
drop, which is something I
usually expect from them.

Bahnsen, and her monochrome
tones, airy dresses and stunning
ruffle details made me love her
even more. Her exquisite way of

Helmstedt was definitely the
brand of the week for me. Their
very first show was only last
year, but the designer has gone
from strength to strength with
her bold, funky and anti-trend
approach to creating garments.

The show was so much fun, and

unique. Whilst it’s arguably too
garish for some, I absolutely
adored all of it. The creativity
behind those statement prints

created a playful atmosphere I
was desperate to be part of. For
such busy pieces, they worked
so well together and each
look complimented the other. I
couldn’t fault it!

hilde van mas What is your artistic workflow
and how do ideas for
MESS photoshoots come to you?

MAGAZINE Inspiration is everywhere and
constantly surrounding us. I get
issue 12 inspired by old film noir movies,
art, cultures, and people I love.
My strongest inspirations come
from the moment itself and
from my dreams. I often wake
up in the night with a precise,
cinematic mood for a shoot.

What is one brand you’d like to
work with?

Very, very difficult to answer… I
see numerous fascinating facets
in many brands such as Gucci,
Chanel, Saint Laurent, Dior… the
brand list would be neverending.

How do you think photography
and art make you who you are?

Having spent my whole youth on
stage as a ballet dancer myself I
have a very strong bonding,
trust, and belief in any
artistic discipline.

Will you ever make your way
back to ballet?

Yes, as a theatergoer!

Any advice for aspiring
professional photographers?

Three words: Obsession,
curiosity, and honesty. Or maybe
also as a quote by the German
novelist Franz Kafka:
‘Follow your most intense
obsessions mercilessly.’
