Change the story genre: Choose a fairy tale from the choices given below. Rewrite it as a modern update
(science fiction). For example, imagine Cinderella’s encounter with an alien instead of the fairy Godmother
or Jack climbing the beanstalk would make him travel through time and into the future. Type the final story
on MS Word document/PPT/Canva. Add illustrations to support the progression of your story (Word limit
450 to 500 words). After proof checking, convert it into an e-book using the link
https://www.flipbookpdf.net/.

Fairy tales: Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp

• The reason I enjoyed this book was …
• A section which really interested me was … because …
• A feature of the language used which was interesting was …
• What I like about this author is …
• The kind of person who would enjoy this book is …*

In this assignment, first prepare a PPT which showcases all the important moments of your life. You
can include photographs, videos, and interviews with your parents, grandparents and siblings, which
throw a light on different aspects of you as a person. Finally, towards the end, write an acrostic poem
about yourself (If your name is Ira, you could write something like this - I-Intelligent and wise; R-
Readily takes up challenges; A – Amiable and a people’s person). Give a suitable title to your PPT.

COMPOSTING FUN!

Let’s have fun this summer by making compost with the kitchen waste from our home.Later use
the compost to fertilise your garden.

COMPOSTING AT HOME WITHOUT WORMS

The creation of compost is one of the fundamental cycles of breaking down of food to offer nutrients to the
soil as fertilizer. With the growing popularity of home gardens and organic farming, many people are
creating compost at their home. Creating an indoor compost pile could be a challenging task especially for
those trying to create one without worms. Challenges include successfully creating compost that doesn’t
smell bad because of its location inside the house. Also, the use of worms in a crammed space indoors is
not a good idea.

TSMS Noida Geography Holiday HW/2021-22 Page 2 of 5

How to start indoor composting without worms?
Successful tips to setup an environment friendly composting bin without worms

Choose a perfect storage bin (preferably unused plastic pot/tub/ earthen pot etc.) and a plate tobe
placed below the container.

Know what to put and what NOT to put in an indoor compost bin. Put vegetable waste, fruitpeels,
egg shells, dry leaves, paper, soil and water.

Place the container in an open area (not necessarily under direct sunlight).

Mix the contents of the compost bin at regular intervals- Once a week at least.

Monitor at regular interval at least for a month/ month and a half.

The compost without worms is ready for use.

Here are some successful tips to create compost at home indoors without using worms ascatalyst.

Focus on Compost Bin Material:
Before starting an indoor compost bin, one must be careful in picking up the bin made up of theright
material.

Plastic storage bins are a popular choice for indoor composting as they are inexpensive andeasily
available.

If you have some old wooden dressing table drawers, wooden boxes or empty crates, they canalso be
converted into compost bins successfully.

While using an old wooden crate, simply place some hinged wooden pieces on the top of the box or
place a heavy fabric material like canvas on the top and you are ready to use the crateas a home
compost bin.

Add Appropriate Items to the Bin:
Now that you have created your home compost bin, what goes inside the bin holds paramountimportance.

All fruits and vegetable waste, coffee beans, coffee shrouds and used teas bags as well as
trimmings from plants are perfect starting components of any compost bin.

There are many indoor compost bin practitioners who recommend use of hair from hair brush but
considering the lack of microbial action without worms, it is better to avoid using dry lint andhair shreds.

Avoid Meat and Dairy Products:
One of the fundamental rules for having an indoor compost bin is to avoid the use of organic wastein the
compost bin.

Meat, dairy products or other fats must be avoided as breaking them down without worms in aless
than normal microbial space could be difficult and time consuming.

Another significant thing to keep in mind is to avoid using any waste products with pungentsmells
like onion peelings.

They may be good for speeding up composting process but can make the indoors stink whichcan be
a big turn off.

Avoiding the use to watery items like water melon peels or squashes is also advised else it canmake
the bin way too soggy for comfort.

TSMS Noida Geography Holiday HW/2021-22 Page 3 of 5
Integrity Pursuit of Excellence
Sensitivity Pride in One’s Heritage

Mix Contents at Regular Intervals- Once a week at least:
Keep mixing the contents of the indoor compost bin at regular intervals-once a week.

This process makes sure that there is evenness of soggy and dry pockets in the bin.

The churning enhances the microbial action that will result in quicker composting.
One can either use a wooden stick to mix the contents of the bin or simply shake the bin toenable
successful churning and mixing of the materials.
Add Shredded Paper to the Bin:
Add shredded paper or dry leaves to your indoor compost bin.
This increases the carbon content of the bin thereby enhancing the overall decompositionprocess
significantly.
It also balances the sogginess in the bin.

Note: Watch the following links to understand how you can change your kitchen waste into compost.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT!

Fill the observation sheet given below, regularly – once a week.
You must mention each and every material put in the bin.
You can add green waste up to two or three weeks. After that allow the waste materials tobreak
down. Any changes observed in the bin should be written down in detail.
Click a picture on the first day when you are preparing the composting bin and another picturebefore
the school reopens. The pictures should feature you and the state of the compost.
(Optional)You can also make a short video- where you should be seen speaking about the
compost and what changes have you observed over the period of time.

Dear children,

We have been studying History during these past weeks. Let us revise our learning with some exciting and
informative activities given in the pages ahead.

PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES OF HISTORY

Primary Source:
✓ An authentic document or original item that was produced at the time of the events you are studying.
✓ It was created by someone who lived at the time and is therefore a great source of records or evidence.

Eg. The Great Pyramid of Giza is a primary source from Ancient Egypt.

Secondary Source:
✓ A description, report or recording about the past that was produced after the events being studied took

place.
✓ It may contain an opinion, as the author may have wanted to express their point of view on the topic.

Eg. An encyclopaedia article about the Great Pyramid of Giza is a secondary source on Ancient Egypt.

Remember, each source tells us a story about the event/action of the past. But the historians interpret the
complete story based on not only one single source but on many. So, think like a historian and see what
information you can discover from the various sources.

TO DO:

1. Complete “The Sources Hunt”

2. Go on a Time Travel with Columbus.

• Create a PowerPoint presentation to review a book that you enjoyed the most. You
will present it in the class once the classes begin after the summer break.

Guidelines for the Project
• Your presentation should have 10-12 slides
• Content of the Presentation –
You need to include the following for your book review:
➢ A Title slide – with the name of the book, your name and class
➢ A picture of the cover page of the book
➢ Summary of the story
➢ Main Characters
➢ Your favourite character and why
➢ Your favourite part of the story and why
➢ What you liked or disliked about the ending
➢ Suggest a change in the story that is interesting

• Success Criteria –
When creating your PowerPoint presentation you should include the following
features:
➢ Animation and transition
➢ Inserting Images, design, Text Box
➢ Music

Note: The slides should follow a consistent style (be creative, but do not try to use all
fonts, colours and styles. Try to use them the same way throughout the slides) in the
presentation. Remember, too many effects can make your presentation ineffective, so
make sure you do not use too many animation effects and your slides are balanced.

Stay Home. Stay Safe.
Best wishes!

Dear children,

Let us take this time to indulge in some activities and see how you can
contribute towards supporting and enhancing the environment through your
own individual efforts.

Activity 1: Biodegradable Seed Starters
In an area with a short growing season, starting seeds indoors will give longer-
season plants a chance to produce earlier and longer than if you sow them
directly into the ground when the soil warms up. Seed starting pots can be made
by using materials found around your house. Items that are biodegradable can
be used such as toilet paper, citrus peels, egg shells, egg cartons, newspaper
pots etc. You don’t even have to take the plant out of the pot when it’s ready to
be transplanted into a bigger pot or the garden; just plant the whole container!

Share the pictures of this activity with us later for an interesting class discussion
to follow.

Activity 2: Be Safe, Be Healthy and Let our Earth be HAPPY!

The whole world is talking about COVID-19 which is an infectious disease
caused by corona virus. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is
to be well informed about the virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads.
The virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the
nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
Let us take adequate precautions for ourselves so that our family members,
neighbours and society remain healthy. For the past one year we had been
observing various COVID 19 protocols but that’s not sufficient. We need to do
something more. What are those few things that we should do regularly?

• Washing the vegetables thoroughly.
• Cleaning your hands regularly with soap and water.
• Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance while you are interacting with
others.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
• It’s important that you practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing
into a flexed elbow) and so on.
Make an informative video showing the precautionary measures typically taken
by you and your family members during this time. The video could be shared in
the class later for increasing more public awareness.

BE SAFE AND OTHERS WILL BE SAFER!!
