ENTERTAINMENT

COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair Christopher J. Fanney

The Committee was tasked with a tall order this
year; to plan a series of events befitting of a 100 year
celebration. Our Centennial celebrations started
off as hoped, with our New Year’s Eve Masquerade
Party selling out in four hours. It was followed by
our Decades Party, 4th of July Carnival and 100th
Birthday Party, which were all wildly successful.

More than 11,190 members attended club special events this year. We
thank you for your support of our events. If you did not yet have a
chance to join us for a Centennial celebration, we hope that you will
join us for our Annual Meeting and help us begin the next 100 years of the
Club’s life. The Club’s traditional Annual Meeting, Oyster Roast and New Year’s
Eve events are sure to end our 100th year with a bang.

While we saw a rainy beginning to our Breakers’ Band Series and Grillin’ &
Chillin,’ Friday nights on Breakers’ Boulevard eventually dried up and the
party ensued. The Boulevard continues to be a favorite among members,
with anywhere from 75 to 200 individuals joining us for these relaxing events.

Our most gracious appreciation is extended to our “house bands” who
always rock the Boulevard and Clubhouse. To DogJaw, Dr. Bob & the Burning

FITNESS COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair Thomas E. Bohan, Jr.

The Lifestyles Fitness & Wellness Center had an extremely successful year under the energetic leadership of
Andrea Pettay, Director of Fitness & Wellness. Fitness center visits, group class participants and sport court users
soared throughout the year, with final numbers exceeding 49,000. That’s 9,000 more than last year.

Titleist Performance Institute
New for 2016, we introduced the Titleist
Performance Institute (TPI). TPI is a fitness
program that focuses on exercises and
stretches designed specifically to improve
your golf game.

Class offerings are now modified each quarter to keep programs fresh and offer our membership new,
contemporary alternative exercise formats. We welcomed new additions to the group fitness schedule this year
such as TRX Fusion, HIIT Express and other high-intensity classes, mat Pilates and BASE, a balance and mobility
class for active seniors. We currently offer an average of 37 classes per week, with more than 137 members
signed up for the group fitness package. Our personal training services also expanded this year. We welcomed
additional trainers to our team with specialties in youth and athletic training, Titleist Performance Institute (TPI)
training, and post-rehab training.

We’ve also supplemented our ongoing group fitness classes with specialty fitness events like our Mind-Body and
Personal Training Open Houses, a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, Labor and Memorial Day group workout
sessions, stand-up paddleboarding outings and zip lining at the Virginia Aquarium.

If you haven’t stopped by the fitness center lately, I encourage you to come in and take a look at our new fitness
merchandise. If you’re working out, do it in style and represent the Princess Anne at the same time!

In the next fiscal year, we look forward to updating some of the equipment in the facility to make your visit more
enjoyable. My thanks to the Fitness Committee members for their interest in and leadership of the Club’s fitness
program.

GOLF COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair Troy A. Heselius

Another year is in the books for the Golf Committee. This year saw solid numbers in rounds of golf
played. Total rounds remained on budget and walking rounds remained a slight majority of rounds
at 54%. The Princess Anne Ladies’ Golf Association (PALG) and Princess Anne Senior Men’s Golf
Association (PASMGA) continue to have strong participation and our clinics and tournaments continue
to be well attended.

Tournament participation remained steady, with both of our marquee events (Member Guest
and Member-Member) reaching capacity. The President’s Cup debuted as a Ryder Cup format to
great fanfare. Our Centennial Hickory Stick Open was as welcome addition to the 2016 schedule.
The new Men’s Summer League was enjoyed tremendously, with the weekly round robin matches
reaching capacity (16 teams/32 players). Look for this event to double in participation in 2017. The
Handicap Committee was re-established and consists of myself, Babs Neff and Roger Stroud. The Golf
Operations Team now prints a daily report of players who did not post their score and calls them to
assist with the process, which has resulted in more scores being posted than ever before.

The PALG continues to be a great asset to our Club. They continue to think of activities and social golf
events that encourage all women to play and learn the game of golf. The PALG introduced a new clinic
series in 2016, the Sip and Chip. Ladies had the opportunity to drink wine and socialize while receiving
a short game clinic from our golf professionals. The three clinics averaged 21 participants each. I would
also like to extend congratulations to Babs Neff who took home the 2016 Ladies Club Championship
trophy, her fourth overall.

PASMGA had a successful third year, averaging roughly 30 players for
their Wednesday rounds. Many of our PASMGA members mixed it
up this year in joint outings with the senior men’s groups from Duck
Woods Country Club in the Outer Banks and the Cavalier Golf and
Yacht Club.

We are extremely lucky to have a fine junior program at the PACC. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS
The program was restructured in 2016 using the Operation 36 ARE EXTENDED TO ROBBIE
platform. Kudos to PGA Professional Chris Speaker who has taken BRADSHAW, THE 2016 MEN’S
the role of Junior Golf Director and been the main driving force CLUB CHAMPION.
behind the success of the program. Fifty eight juniors attended junior
golf programs this year and 18 teenagers play golf at the high school
level. This speaks volumes to the coaching and staff we have here at
the Club. Tommy Barton won the 2016 Junior Club Championship
title and had an excellent fall as #3 on Cox High School’s golf team.

In closing, and realizing that it is my final annual report as your Golf Committee Chairman, I’d like to
extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire Golf Operations Team for their hard work, dedication and
support. They do so much behind the scenes that goes unnoticed and they made my job much easier
than it could have been.

GREEN

COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair
Robert Bradshaw

It was another great year at the Princess
Anne. With a spring that never seemed
to occur and summer heat to the
extreme, the turf conditions at PACC
were fantastic. Throughout the season,
I had members of our Club tell me they
had never seen our golf course in better
shape.

Kudos to Matt Boyce, Director of Golf Course Maintenance and Club Grounds, and his team for a job well
done. A few of this season’s accomplishments are listed below:

• Better Billy Bunker conversions took place on holes 3, 4 and 5. More than 41% of our targeted
bunkers have now been converted, which helps us maintain ideal playing conditions and will
save precious labor hours during recovery from high rainfall events.
Sand bottles have been added to the teeing grounds on all par 3 holes.
• An internal “amenity” committee was created, resulting in new daily tee markers, easier
• to use green side bunker rakes, championship pine cone tee markers and new flags.
We have opened up #12 fairway for cart traffic.
• The brown posts identifying where carts are to exit the fairway have been moved closer to the
• greens to optimize pace of play and the overall golf experience.
The green side bunker, located behind the 10th hole, was filled.
• In an effort to continue our progress to more natural cart travel areas, a new sandy waste area was
• added to the right-hand side of the 15th hole.
Artificial turf strips were added to our bridges to promote safe walking conditions.
• Our work with the Golf Committee resulted in a new driving range mat system, which has been
• very well received.

While the golf course is a focus of our committee, it is equally important that we continue to devote
time and resources to the immediate clubhouse area. There is no second chance for a first impression;
therefore, our clubhouse grounds need to be impeccable. Over the past year, the PACC team worked
to beautify club grounds by implementing a new standard for maintenance, as well as making small
improvements throughout the public spaces. We implemented new pruning techniques, pest and disease
management skills and set long term goals to work towards over the years to come. In an effort to
provide a lively, seasonal landscape, we are replacing the tired plants in the arrival circle and arbor at the
front of the clubhouse with new, vibrant plantings. We have also introduced pops of color throughout
the clubhouse grounds, and hanging baskets, planters and seasonal annuals now set the mood for our
members and guests.

As 2017 approaches, keep your eyes open for the new things to come!

HOUSE COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair Thomas Hyman, Jr.

In 2016, the House Committee continued its efforts to assist the
Operations Team with the vision of making the Princess Anne “THE”
social and dining venue of choice for our members and families.

The committee worked closely with the food and beverage team, providing member feedback
on menu content and the overall club dining experience. This feedback came to the House
Committee through various ways to include conversations, letters and the continued careful
review of comment cards from all dining venues around the club.

A particular success this year, based upon the feedback, was the addition of many new “health
conscious” food items to our menus. Moving forward, the team looks to continue this trend
and highlight these new, healthy options.

A special project the House Committee has undertaken is exploring the warming up of the
upper terrace outside of the Linkhorn Lounge/Chesapeake Room. The Committee believes
this is a very unique, but underutilized, space at the Princess Anne. Initial efforts are underway
to investigate how this area can be enhanced with both short term and long term solutions.
The Committee and Operations Team strongly believe that with some enhancements and
added character, the upper terrace will quickly become a sought after dining space and ideal
location for PACC members to gather for a sunset happy hour.

Annual Report 2016 14

HOUSE COMMITTEE

The Committee worked hand in hand with the Entertainment Committee and Operations Team to
support the highly successful Centennial parties throughout the year. The events kicked off with a
wonderful New Year’s Eve Celebration and will end with what is sure to be yet another outstanding
Annual Meeting in November.

I would like to express my appreciation to every member of the House Committee for their great
attendance, hard work and input. Additionally, I thank all the members who submitted comment
cards. Member feedback is essential as we strive toward continued excellence. The House
Committee is excited about many new, exciting changes and opportunities to come, and will do
all it can to support the remaining events scheduled throughout 2016 and next year!

When looking at the membership recruitment efforts of the Committee, 2016 was a strong year. Again this year, the Club
offered our Centennial Membership Opportunity, which provided reduced initiation fees and other incentives for members
joining the comprehensive membership classification. Twenty nine of this year’s 45 new members took advantage of this
special opportunity, with 54 total new members joining under the plan during its offering period (2015-2016). Additionally,
under the Centennial opportunity, 30 current members upgraded their memberships to a higher level. In addition to the
Centennial program, the Committee launched the “PACC Under 40” networking series. These cocktail-hour style events take
place quarterly and were designed not only to bring together members in this demographic, but also encourage them to
bring their friends and highlight our fine facilities and amenities to prospective members in this age range. So far, feedback
on the series has been great. As a PACC member, it is an honor and privilege to sponsor a new member into the Club. As
we move into the next 100 years of the Princess Anne’s life, we hope you will continue to assist the Committee in bringing
new members into the PACC family, further ensuring the Club’s health and longevity.

POOL COMMITTEE

The Dive team continues to grow and thrive under the leadership of nine-year PACC veteran dive coach, Katie
Lorenz. This year Katie brought on Molly Cassidy as her assistant. Molly took over for the second half of the
summer, after the birth of Katie’s first child. The PACC continues to have one of the most elite dive programs
in the area.
In addition to the swim and dive team, the pool hosted a variety of other activities for members of all ages. Both
deep water aerobics and regular water aerobics were a big hit this year. The pool hosted two movie nights,
the Kids Triathlon and a scavenger hunt. Thankful Thursdays took place on the pool deck weekly. Through
these fun events, children got the opportunity to learn about giving to others and made crafts for the people
in their lives and in the community for which they are thankful such as their grandparents, the mail carrier and
residents of a local retirement center. The Mermaid and Pirate Breakfast was a hit! The children were thrilled
to swim with a real mermaid (some even bringing their own mermaid tails), dine with a pirate and make chests
to hide their treasures.
Our pool is now 24 years old. Brian and his team continue to put in hard work to ensure we get the most out
of this aging facility. Looking to the future, the aquatics infrastructure is an area to which the Club will need to
allocate resources to maintain this family favorite for years to come.
As we close out 2016 and look forward to 2017, members questions, comments and concerns are valued and
appreciated. I encourage you to reach out to one of the Pool Committee members and share your thoughts.
I would also like to thank the members of the Pool Committee. These members faithfully volunteer their time,
and most of their summer weekends, to swim meets and events. Their service to the club is immeasurable and
ensures that all of our PACC families enjoy a fun-filled summer.

1 Sheridan Conley’s 4.0 team. Sheridan’s 4.0 team is the first all PACC member team to win

Sectionals and go to Nationals in Palm Springs, CA.

2 Our competitive “Cup” teams continue to win! We won the Fun Cup for the 1st time, Junior
Country Club Cup for the 7th year in a row and Tidewater Cup. Our winningest Cup season ever!

The junior development program has grown to more than 150 kids. More than 15 are ranked in

3 the Mid-Atlantic USTA standings with two in the top ten; Joseph Hobbs in Boys’ 10’s and Charles

Hobbs in Boys’ 12’s.

The PACC fielded five USTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT) teams for the spring season, three of

4 which advanced to Districts and two went on to Sectionals. Over the past few years, PACC has

King’s Daughters, making it the highest grossing charity event for CHKD in the region.
The PACC Tennis Shop continues to provide high quality merchandise at internet matching

6 prices and has by far the best selection in the area. This shop has made huge gains in the

stringing department, with people coming from all over the city to have their racquets done by
our certified stringers.

Facility Improvements

• Our outdoor bubble courts 2, 3 and 4 were pulverized, resurfaced and laser-graded
• The ceiling of our bubble was professionally cleaned
• New awnings and a “cabana” added much needed shade to our outdoor clay courts
• New logo towel hampers and ice coolers now adorn the outdoor courts
• A new HVAC unit was installed in the indoor tennis facility
