I think she’ll forgive me for saying she was inspirational.
Alice Burnham left us at the age of 95 after decades as a docent in the Art
Gallery, greeting visitors with “Welcome to the Nineteenth Century” and
a cheerful tour. We have a copy of her folksy, uplifting book of poems she
published (at age 90) in our NEK Authors collection. And when I asked her
to pose for photographer Bob Jenks as “Raspberry Girl,” she enthusiastically
agreed. Alice loved that she was featured on a banner that delighted all who
passed by.
Thank you for understanding the uniqueness of the Athenaeum and
ensuring its continued service to our community.
