Aku Sepasang Kasut

Aku sepasang kasut sekolah. Aku bernama Pallas.
Badanku berwarna putih dan diperbuat daripada
kain.

Aku dilahirkan di Kuala Lumpur. Setelah siap

Selepas membuat pilihan,
dia tertarik dengan kecantikanku. Akhirnya, budak itu
membeliku dengan harga RM 35.00.

Rupa-rupanya, tuan aku bernama Alex. Setiap
hari, tuan aku memakai aku pergi ke sekolahnya.
Tuan aku menggunakan aku dengan cermatnya.
Kawan-kawannya memuji aku sangat cantik.

Aku berasa sangat gembira kerana ada seorang
tuan yang baik. Aku akan berkhidmat untuk tuan aku
buat selama-lamanya.

Melawat Ke Zoo Negara

Kami
melihat ramai pengunjung sedang membeli tiket. Bapa terus

Namun,
dia tidak bersikap sombong. Apabila saya menghadapi masalah
dalam peperiksaan, dia akan membantu saya. Sikap Khairul yang
berbudi bahasa menyebabkan kawan-kawan suka mendampinginya.

rumah. Kadang kala, kami bermain bola sepak di padang. Walaupun
saya dan khairul baru berkenalan, tetapi hubungan kami akrab
seperti isi dengan kuku.

Encik Zainal dan keluarganya sangat peramah. Mereka
sering bertegur sapa dengan jiran tetangga. Oleh itu, semua jiran
suka bergaul dengan mereka.

Saya berasa gembira kerana boleh tinggal berjiran
dengan Encik Zainal sekeluarga. Saya berharap agar mereka sentiasa
sihat dan dicucuri rahmat.

Kebaikan Program Rumah Terbuka

Rumah terbuka merupakan sesuatu program yang
diadakan untuk menjemput orang lain berkunjung ke
rumah sendiri demi menyambut sesuatu hari yang
penting. Pada zaman pascamodenisasi ini, apabila
ketibaan hari perayaan, anggota masyarakat termasuk
pembesar-pembesar kabinet negara akan mengadakan
rumah terbuka untuk meraihkan hari perayaan
tersebut. Media massa tidak ketinggalan untuk
menguar-uarkan berita yang berkaitan dengan rumah
terbuka. Persoalannya, apakah kebaikan program
rumah terbuka?

lain. Sebagai contoh, sebelum pengunjung pergi ke
rumah terbuka kaum lain yang mengamalkan budaya
yang berlainan, pengunjung itu akan mengambil tahu
tentang pantang larang penjemput itu supaya tidak
sampai salah adat orang lain. Pendek kata, program
rumah terbuka berperanan penting dalam
mengeratkan tali silaturahim.

Selain itu, anggota masyarakat dapat menikmati
juadah tradisional kaum lain juga salah satu
manfaatnya. Hal ini lantaran sesetengah hidangan
hanya khusus disediakan untuk menyambut hari
perayaan, misalnya kuih bakul hanya disediakan
sempena Tahun Baru Cina. Kesannya, anggota
masyarakat dapat mengetahui makanan yang halal
dan haram bangsa yang lain. Tambahan pula, ini juga
dapat mengelakkan perselisihan faham antara kaum.
Sudah terang lagi bersuluh, program rumah terbuka
membolehkan masyarakat lebih memahami adat
tradisional kaum lain.

My first day at school

My mother accompanied me to school on the first day. Other parents
accompanied their children as well. We all waited in front of the
school office.

Soon a teacher came and led us to some classrooms. There we were
put into four separate classes. This was when some children began to
cry as the parents were not allowed into the classrooms. I did not cry
because I had been to kindergarten before. Actually my mother went
home soon after for she knew I would be all right.

It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates.
The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had
plenty of time to ourselves.

Meantime some children continued to sob while their parents looked
in anxiously through the windows.

Soon recess came. Some of us headed for the tuck-shop while the rest
headed for their parents. I bought a drink with the money my mother
gave me. Getting to know my new friends had made me thirsty.

After recess we went back to out classroom and my new friends and I
managed to coax two boys to stop crying. In fact, soon we were
laughing and playing together. Once in a while the teacher had to tell
us to keep quiet as we were making too much noise.

Still some parents looked in anxiously through the windows.

Finally the bell rang for us to go home. Some of us were very relieved
to be reunited with our parents. I too was glad to see my mother
waiting for me at the school gate. I had made many friends. It had
been a wonderful first day at school.

A Kind Deed

“Beep!” The green pedestrian light was beeping loudly. Many
pedestrians trotted hurriedly across the road like a troop of
soldiers. Nobody seemed to notice a frail old lady standing at the
side of the road. The lady’s grey hair was tied up in a bun. Her
face was lined with wrinkles and her skin was peppered with age-
spots. In one hand, she was holding a walking stick and her steps
were slow and unsteady. In the other, she was holding a few bags
of groceries.

Tom was on his way back home. As he was about to cross the road,
he noticed this frail old lady. “May I offer you a hand?” asked
Tom kindly. Crowfeet appeared on the side of her eyes as she
nodded in appreciation and thanked Tom profusely. Without
hesitation, Tom took over the shopping bags from the old
lady. She heaved a sigh of relief. He held up his hands to stop the
cars from moving. Together, they walked across the road
safely. Tom accompanied the old lady all the way back to her
flat. She was very grateful for his kind deed.

Tom was happy that he helped someone in need. He told himself
that he would help the needy whenever he could. He was in high
spirits the whole day!

An Adventure

“In the end, the girl was killed,” I was telling my friends a ghost
story. A chilly gust of wind blew, giving me goosebumps. Light
from the moon cast eerie shadows on the ground and the stars in
the sky twinkled.

It was a holiday and I had gone camping with my friends in the
forest. We were roasting marshmallows and chatting happily. I was
bursting with excitement and my body tingled with enthusiasm.

“Ah-Woo!” Suddenly, we heard a wolf howling. My heart was
pounding wildly and my stomach did a quick somersault.
Frantically, we hid in out tent and zipped it. “Are there wolves
around?” I wondered. Curiosity burned inside me.

“Jack, do you want to investigate the noise?” I asked, unable to
contain my curiosity.

“I have never seen a wolf before. I also want to take a photograph
of the wolf. Accompany me please!” I begged. Sighing, Jack
nodded his head and agreed reluctantly. I promised him that we
would not go too close. We brought along a torch and sauntered
into the forest. The forest was rich with flora and fauna.

Suddenly, the light coming from the torch went out! I let out a
sharp gasp. Then, I realised that I had forgotten to change the
batteries! Panic engulfed me as I was scared of the dark. Paralyzed
with fear, my legs turned into jelly. Frantic thoughts raced through
my mind as a chill ran down my spine.

Fortunately, Jack had brought an extra torch. I let out a sigh of
relief. Then, we continued walking into the forest. It was dark and
spooky.

“Ah-Woo! Ah-Woo!” the wolf started howling again. However, it
sounded much closer this time and the noise grew louder and
louder.

“I’m scared, Jack. Can we go back to the tent?” I asked as terror
gripped my heart. My face turned pale as fear coiled around me
like a python suffocating its prey. Beads of perspiration formed on
my forehead as my hands turned cold and clammy.

“Since we’ve come all the way here, let’s continue. Once we see the
wolf, we’ll run back. If you’re scared, you can hold the torch,”
Jack replied as he handed me the torch. He seemed much braver
than before.

“Ah-Woo!” the wolf howled.

“There, there it is!” Jack yelled as I shone light in the direction of
the animal. When we saw what it was, Jack and I giggled in
amusement. Realisation hit us like a ton of bricks. It was an owl!
Quickly, we took a picture of the owl and went back to the
campsite.

When we got back, I recounted the whole incident to our friends
and they burst into laughter. It was an adventure I would not
forget.

Lost And Found

“My cufflinks aren’t on the top of my
cupboard! Where did they go? How am I supposed to
go to work tomorrow?” Father exclaimed
worriedly. “Where’s my hairclip? I put it on top of
my wardrobe!” my older sister, Ann, exclaimed. “I
lost my earrings too!” Mother said in
shock. Something insanely mysterious had been
happening in our house. Our trinkets had been
disappearing! The whole family decided to search for
our missing trinkets.

We searched high and low in every nook and cranny
of the house but the trinkets were nowhere to be
found. Our search was fruitless. As Mother suggested
that we could have missed a small crevice in which
the trinkets might have dropped into, we searched the
house again but our efforts bore no fruit. The family
was desperate to get our trinkets back. We suspected
that our maid had taken the trinkets but as we did not
have concrete evidence, we did not openly accuse her.

To take our minds off the matter, my sister and I
asked Mother whether we could play basketball
outside our house. She agreed and we elatedly took
our ball outside.

“Catch this, Ann!” I hollered as I threw the ball. “It’s
too high! I can’t reach it!” Ann replied. Although she
was older than me, she was desperately short. This
attribute, however, proved useful that day. The ball
shot towards her in a wide arc, towards her
outstretched fingers but she was not able to catch
it. The ball seemed to fly in slow motion as it passed
her hand towards a bird’s nest on a nearby tree. It
knocked the bird’s nest which tumbled down,
shattering from the sheer impact.

Something rolled onto the grass, glinting in the bright
sunlight. Wondering what it was, I picked it up. My
jaw dropped. I was flabbergasted. It was Mother’s
missing ring! As my sister and I did an intricate scan
of our surroundings, we noticed that the ground was
littered with trinkets! We were overwhelmed by
surprise.

We gathered up all the trinkets and showed Mother,
telling her what had happened. Mother was
astonished to hear the news and was jumping for
joy. She praised us for finding them, heaving a sigh
of relief. That day, we learnt that we should always
close the windows, in case a bird took our trinkets
again. Once bitten, twice shy.

A Celebration Gone Wrong

“I can’t wait for the party to begin!” I exclaimed
excitedly. It was my tenth birthday and my parents
finally let me organise an outdoor party. Soon, the
first guests arrived. My parents greeted them warmly
and served them drinks. One of the guests, Uncle Joe,
gave me a hazelnut chocolate cake for dessert. I was
looking forward to the celebration!

Finally, all the guests arrived. The party started soon
after and my parents served me and the guests some
food. A buzz of excitement filled the air as many
people gave presents to me. Soon, all the food was
served.

“Dessert time!” I said as I cut myself a slice of the
delectable chocolate cake. I took a few bites and I
felt that the cake was the best thing I had ever
eaten. “Wow! Hazelnuts are so tasty!” I exclaimed as
I had never been allowed to eat hazelnuts
before. However, as it was my birthday, I could do
anything I wanted. Soon, my throat felt itchy and
angry red marks appeared on my arm. I coughed
uncontrollably. Suddenly, I realised something.

I was allergic to hazelnuts!

A while later, the itch got worse. I groaned in agony
as tears welled up in my eyes. “Don’t you know
Benny is allergic to hazelnuts?” my mother asked
Uncle Joe with dagger-like eyes as she ran frantically
to me. Unfortunately, my mother tripped on
someone’s foot and her head smacked on the half-
eaten chocolate cake! Everyone’s jaws fell agape and
a few of my friends gasped in shock. My father then
rushed to my aid as my chocolate-cake-covered
mother went back to the house to have a quick bath.

The ambulance soon arrived, after my father had
called one. The paramedics sprang into action and
took me to the hospital. Before I left, my Uncle Joe
apologised profusely to my parents. My mother then
said that my party would be postponed.

Lying in the ambulance, I recalled the events of the
day. Because of my greediness, my birthday
celebration was ruined. From that day on, I learnt to
take care of myself and not eat anything with
hazelnuts again.
