All laws of the the United States begin as bills. Before a bill can
become a law, it must be approved by the U.S. House of
Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and the President.

Federalism--The balance between National Government and State Government. The Government

can't decide on gay marriage, the states decide that for themselves.

Popular Sovereignty---Power by the people, such as when we elect officials, or when we vote

on laws. Examples include, electing Obama, or the recent mil levee that was shot down

Limited Government--Government restrictions like their inability to take away our rights.

Separation of powers--The government is broken into three branches. The executive enforces the

aw, the legislative makes the law, and the Judicial interprets the law. They are governed by checks and balances
o keep them from becoming more powerful than the others.

Checks and Balances--The separation of power needs to be regulated. This

system provides each branch with power over the others. The president can veto laws made by
congress, and congress can impeach the president by 2/3 vote. The Judicial has the power to
declare acts of congress unconstitutional, and the president can appoint members of the
supreme court.
