Environmental Impact of Waste Disposal
On March 1st, guest speaker Dr. Bentley Higgs, B.Sc.,
M.Sc., Ph.D. Civil/Environmental/ Solid Waste
Management Engineering discussed the topic
“Environmental Impact of Waste Disposal”.
Dr. Higgs shared some waste handling options such as:
-Recycling & Reuse
-Composting
-Combustion/Incineration
-Landfilling
It was an intriguing conversation because we were
able to learn more about landfills and how they
operate. We also learned about the effects of having a
landfill.
International Women’s Day
On March 8th, RCNS wished every
woman a Happy International
Women’s Day!
Nassau Sunset shared a clip of
some of the phenomenal ladies of
RCNS who showed their pride for
womanhood. RCNS encouraged
everyone to celebrate the women
in their life every day.
World Rotaract Week
During March 8-14 Nassau Sunset
celebrated World Rotaract Week! Every
year, World Rotaract Week honors the
chartering of the first club in 1968.
World Rotaract Week was a time for
Rotaractors and Rotarians around the
world to come together to celebrate the
success and importance of the Rotaract
program.
Fresh Water as Natural Resource in
The Bahamas
In celebration of World Rotaract Week, Nassau
Sunset took over our sponsor club, The Rotary
Club of Nassau Sunrise’s Thursday morning
meeting on March 11th. Dr. Ancilleno Davis was
the guest speaker who spoke on the topic
“Fresh Water as a Natural Resource in The
Bahamas”.
This was a well informative meeting especially
with the outbreak of Covid-19 and the need to
utilize all our resources to keep the economy
afloat.
World Rotaract Day
On March 13th RCNS celebrated World Rotaract Day
with a community service initiative along with the
Rotaract Clubs of The Bahamas and Hashtag
Lunchbag Bahamas. We ended World Rotaract
week and celebrated World Rotaract Day in true
Rotaract fashion by giving back to the community.
We assembled and distributed lunches to the wider
community. We also donated plastic bottles to the
New Providence Community Center Recycling
Depot.
We had a blast with the Rotafam and Hashtag
Lunchbag Bahamas! We are looking forward to
celebrating World Rotaract Week next year.
The Journey to Entrepreneurship
On March 15th RCNS held its second club
meeting for Water and Sanitation Month.
The special guest was Mr. Z. Timothy
Adderley who discussed the topic “The
Journey to Entrepreneurship”.
Mr. Adderley shared the process for
obtaining a business license for new and
up and coming business owners. It was a
well informative and exciting
presentation.
Project X with Rotaract Club of UWI
Cave Hill
During March 15th -19th Nassau
Sunset teamed up with The
Rotaract Club of UWI Cave Hill
for an international social media
project.
RCNS along with the other Club
Partners brought awareness
designed to shed light on some
of the most vulnerable species of
our region.
Stand-Pipes Initiative
On March 20th, Nassau Sunset partnered with
the Rotary Club of Nassau Sunrise, Over the Hill
Community Development, Water & Sewerage
Corporation, and the Ministry of Public Works.
The plan was to clean up 60 public water
standpipes in the inner-city communities. We
started in the Grants Town community and the
plan going forward is to move into other
communities as this initiative progresses.
We were happy to partner in this initiative and
bring awareness to Water and Sanitation issues
in the inner communities! Stay tuned for more
updates!
World Down Syndrome Day
On March 21st RCNS celebrated
World Down Syndrome Day.
Some Sunsetters shared videos
of them rocking colorful/mixed
socks and brought awareness to
Down’s Syndrome.
