Understanding Community Development
On Monday, October 5th, Nassau Sunset
held its first meeting for Economic and
Community Development Month and we
were joined by Samita Ferguson
Executive Manager, Over the Hill
Iniative. She spoke on “Understanding
Community Development” and it was an
informative presentation. She
highlighted the areas of the Over-the-Hill
initiative such as Green Technology,
Youth and Elderly, Smart Technology,
Social Empowerment and Community
Rejuvenation.
World Teachers Day 2020
October 5th, RCNS wished
teachers around the world a
Happy World Teachers’ Day!
We appreciate them and their
time spent to ensure that
students are continuously
learning, especially during the
outbreak of Covid-19. RCNS
highlighted two of our very
own teachers: Clydeisha Cox
and Shavardo Bullard.
Helping to Face the Pandemic
EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT
IT!
On October 6th RCNS was featured
in The Tribune for volunteering at
Lend-a-Hand Bahamas in the
months of August and September. It
was a pleasure to help Lend-a-Hand
Bahamas achieve their goals and we
look forward to being a source of
continued support.
Virtual Fun Fitness
Team RCNS got physical on October
10th for the Virtual Fu Fitness via
zoom. The instructor for this session
was Trainer Akeem Boyd. Even
though the fun started at 8am, our
members and prospectives were
there to work up a sweat. They had a
great time!
World Mental Health Day 2020
How can we take care of others if we
aren’t taking care of ourselves?
For World Mental Health Day 2020,
RCNS teamed up with our twin club, The
Rotaract Club of New Kingston to share
photos of how members practice self-
care.
Self-care techniques and general
lifestyle changes can help manage the
symptoms of many mental health
problems. They may also help prevent
some problems from developing or
getting worse.
Karaoke Night
On October 17th RCNS hosted a
Karaoke Night and members had a
blast. There were several persons who
sang their hearts out and some that
kept smiles on the viewers faces.
However, there was one winner who
took us all by storm, Malikah Pinder.
There’s no doubt that she is on her
way to broadway!
Millennials + Mortgages
On October 19th RCNS had its second
meeting for Economic & Community
Development Month with guest speaker
Toriano Lloyd, Mortgage Professional.
Mr. Lloyd gave a wonderful presentation on
“Millennials + Mortgages” and took his time
in explaining the important information that
all millennials need to know to secure a
mortgage for the first time.
Some of his top tips were to ensure that you
are aware of what you may be qualified to
purchase by getting pre-approved before
searching for homes, to SAVE your down
payment ahead of time and to have a home
buying team.
He also shared some interesting tricks which
can be used to reduce interest payments.
World Polio Day 2020
To help celebrate the mitigation
of Polio around the world, The
Rotaract Club of Nassau Sunset
sold bands stating “end Polio
now” to help aid in the fight
against polio in conjunction with
Rotary International! Those who
participated took photos with
their bands. We are now this
close to ending Polio.

If you weren’t there for the 2020
& Beyond panel discussion on
October 27th, you missed out on
an energetic and refreshing
conversation!
The panelists were Jeffrey N.
Beckles, Global Business
Consultant, Former CEO, BCCEC;
Marlon Johnson, Acting Financial
Secretary, Ministry of Finance
and Aneesah Abdullah, Project
Officer/Policy Analyst
Sustainable Development Goals
Unit, Office of the Prime Minister.
Who Did It?
To kick off this year’s virtual
Halloween festivities, RCNS held a
virtual “Who Did It?”
The night was filled with mystery
and intrigue because the theme of
the event was the wild and romantic
era of the Roaring 20s.
Attendees were invited to
investigate who killed Notorious
Nick and everyone was a suspect.
Everyone who attended had a great
time and there were prizes for the
person who guessed right and best
dressed.
Virtual Horror Movie Night
On October 31st, Nassau
Sunset held a Virtual Horror
Movie Night via Netflix Party.
The movie of the night was
The Conjuring 2 and it was a
scare-tastic night. Attendees
were on the edge of their seats
and bitting their nails as they
watched.
Although the pandemic kept
us inside this Halloween, we
were able to still have some
fun as a club virtually.
