VISIONS Service Adventures 2020

VISIONS summer programs are built on the pillars of meaningful service, full cultural immersion and adventurous exploration. Our student volunteers work among Blackfeet and Northern Cheyenne people on Montana Indian reservations and indigenous Athabascans in Alaska, as well as abroad in South America and the Caribbean. Programs are 12 days to four weeks long, and some sites include Spanish or French language immersion.

WELCOME TO VISIONS

We believe that stepping outside of ourselves and encountering new perspectives fosters profound
and positive change. We know that young people who engage in meaningful service in unfamiliar
environments gain exceptional insight—it’s been our program model for more than 30 years. Our students
settle into the daily life of the host community, get to know local residents, experience different customs
and in the process, begin to feel a sense of global connection. As one of the first international summer
service organizations for teenagers, we celebrate this connectedness—and the hope it holds for the future.

Since 1988, we’ve built more than 1,300 structures and provided countless hours of social service.

basic but clean and comfortable with showers, bathrooms and full kitchens. Meals
and snacks are varied and healthy. Food allergies and preferences can be

STRONG COMMUNITY TIES
Average history with our host communities is 22 years. Live as a group within the
community and experience authentic cultural immersion. Share stories, worksites,
traditions, meals and ideas.

COMMUNITY-DRIVEN SERVICE
Service projects address community needs as defined by community members. VISIONS
values the ability of community service to build relationships on trust and respect.

CIRCLE MEETINGS
Gather as a group a few times a week for genuine reflection, sharing and listening.
Acknowledge and address issues that arise naturally within a group. Circle
meetings unite us, help new insights stick and bind all of the other program
elements together.

TECH FREE PROGRAMS
Unplug from tech devices and the internet to be fully present. Time is carved out
once a week for students to call home.

INCLUSIVE GROUP DYNAMICS
An almost unheard of average ratio of one leader to every four teens ensures that students receive clear communication and guidance, as
well as the opportunity to bond with a mentor. Inclusion is further promoted by our policy that no more than two friends may attend the
same program together, which encourages students to forge new friendships.

VISIONS is a woman-owned organization dedicated to creating connections that are transformative and that make a positive difference for the
individual, community, living creatures and the earth. This is not your average teen summer program. Our long-standing program model built
on the pillars of meaningful service, authentic cultural immersion, and open-minded exploration has created a global community that will have

ripple effects for years to come.

L AS T I N G I M PACT CUSTOM PROGRAMS

When our students engage whole-heartedly in our program In addition to summer programs, VISIONS runs customized trips for
activities, they gain: schools, clubs and other groups who want to travel with the spirit of
service, immersion and adventure. Choose from any of our program
• Knowledge of the culture, history and society of the host locations, any time of year. Teachers are welcome and we work
community together to create a program that aligns with your goals.

• Communication and community-living skills required in “We feel very blessed in the partnership
order to successfully live in a group
that we have created with VISIONS.
• Hard skills required on the worksites, including tool use
• Understanding of and respect for diversity, in the

broadest sense
• Confidence as an engaged member of a community and

as an agent of change
• Positive attitude towards interacting, learning and

exploring across cultures

This is a time to step outside of yourself,
to do more and be more.

The trips are challenging emotionally,

physically and spiritually; it is not

a vacation. The kids feel trusted

as citizens of the world to make

this earth a better place.”
