SAMPLE QUESTION AND ANSWER
Question: Based on the novel that you have studied, choose a character you admire most.
Give reasons for your choice.
Task: Read the following answer to the above question. Give comments on the ideas and
underline the errors. Decide in which range of marks it should be for both content
and language.
Based on the novel I have studied entitled Sing to the Dawn by Ming Fong Ho The
character I admire most is Dawan.
The first reason why I admire Dawan is because it potrays Dawan’s determination.
Eventhough, Dawan has the right get scholarship to study in the city but unfortunately,
she didn’t get the support from her family because of her father that has highs hopes that
his eldest son, Kwai will get the education so he can improve life for the family. But,
because of Dawan’s determination, Dawan refuses to give up her dream to continue her
education in the city even though she faces many obstacles which is her cousin, Noi, tell
her how cruel and ugly the city is and didn’t offer their support to persuade her father to
allow her to go to the city to study. Nevertheless, Dawan was still determined to go see
for herself and to prove them wrong.
The second reason why I admire Dawan because of her brave. Dawan is fourteen
years old but she brave to see headmonk, with a hope that the monk would speak to her
father to let her study in the city. But, the monk turned her down by saying that he would
not do such things he did not believe in. The monk, did not think that Dawan would make
any difference to the society if she went to study in the city. The monk also tell Dawan
that she just a mere girl. So because of that, Dawan and the monk had a bit arguement
and she disagress with his religious ideas. Unfortunately, the monk refuses to persuade her
father to let her study in the city school. This is pure act of brave.
The third reason why I admire Dawan because of Dawan kindness. She is very caring
sister towards her brother, Kwai. There are a scene when she saw Kwai sitting on the
bridge without having an umbrella despite the heavy rain. She rather gave up her umbrella
to kwai so that he would not catch a cold later on. Thus, it potrays how kind Dawan was
even though she just had an arguments at the market place with her brother. Instead, of
holding a grugdes towards her brother. she choose to being kind as a sister by giving the
umbrella so that he wont get sick.
In conclusion, all Dawan’s quality make me feel proud of her because end up she
can study in the city to get the education and improve villagers life.

Report on Leadership Camp
The prefect board of SMK Seri Damai recently organized a Prefect Leadership Camp on
__________. The three-day-two-night camp was held at the ____________ (C1) which is located
approximately twenty miles away from the city. The camp was a compulsory activity for all the
newly appointed prefects in the school as they are the leaders amongst students.
The aim of the camp was _________________________________________________(C3 )
for the future leaders. ____(C2) attended the leadership camp accompanied by four teachers
who were assisted by four facilitators.
Identify the rest of the Content Points and the Details in the following paragraphs.
The first activity conducted was public speaking. There was a sharing session and a mini
workshop conducted by the facilitators where there were introduced with the basic skills they
need to acquire when speaking in public. At the end of the mini workshop the participants were
given the chance to present their opinions on topics given by applying all the new learned skills.
This activity has helped to boost the confidence level as well as to improve their communication
skills.
As for the second activity, the participants had the chance to try out an outdoor activity at the
campsite which was abseiling. It was quite a challenging activity for many of the participants as
it was the first experience to most of them. Fortunately, the facilitators were there all the way to
guide and motivate them while doing the activity.
The participants had another outdoor activity on the last day of the camp. They went jungle
trekking in the national park. During the trekking, the participants were taught to use rope and
help each other in order to finish the trekking. The trek was quite hilly, so they had to use all the
energy and stamina to finally reach the last stop.
The highlight of the activities was the cultural performance on the last night of the camp. The
participants were eager to perform even though they had limited time to prepare and practise.
Surprisingly, all teams managed to pull out a creative and entertaining performance. Many
participants felt that that was the best activity as not only they enjoyed themselves, but they also
discovered their talents and develop their confidence.
The camp was indeed beneficial to all participants. Although the activities were challenging,
the participants learned so much regarding teamwork and how to face challenges in tough
situations. It is hoped that it will be conducted again in future.

Sample Essay –
Online shopping is popular nowadays. What are the benefits of online shopping?
Task 1: Read the essay below and identify the thesis statement and topic sentences.
Task 2: Identify the linking words/phrases.
Online shopping is one of the greatest aspects of the Internet today. For those who have
access to this service, it can be a fantastic and relatively stress free alternative. By choosing to
shop online you will be able to enjoy many benefits.
One of the benefits of online shopping is it is usually cheaper. Many people are unaware
that they have the ability to save even more money by shopping at an online retailer. Actual
department stores are always in competition with each other, so are online retailers. They all
fight among each other in order to offer consumers the best deal, in order to lure them to
their products. You, the consumer, benefit greatly from this never ending battle of the
retailers. Everyone is always in search for a great deal – online shopping can offer you just
that. Another excellent example of the money saving benefit is what is called "Online ONLY"
deals. These are deals that are typically offered by retailers that also possess offline sales
structures. The benefit of this is that they will often offer extensive discounts and savings only
to those who purchase specific items online.
Another benefit that only online shopping can offer is it helps customers avoid the holiday
rush, the waiting in line, the weather elements, traffic and having to carry all of the shopping
bags around. It is convenient. Shopping within a mall or department store can become such
a hassle that it is not as fun as it once was. Online shopping makes it fun again, depending on
what you are looking for. There are many options offered. For example, when you are online
shopping for a specific CD (Compact Disc), you are allowed to listen to samples of the songs
contained on that CD. How does this help? You will have the opportunity to listen to portions
of the song, this will help you determine if you like the songs or do not. This surely beats
buying a CD only to find out you did not like it once you have gotten it home.
Only shopping saves time too - you do not have to drive anywhere and wait in queues. You
can often purchase an item(s) with just a simple click of a button and at the comfort of your
home. Once you have set up your shopping list online virtually the only time you spend on it
is clicking the “confirm” button on your order. You can nominate a time that suits you for
delivery of your items. That way does not only help you save yourself the battle of facing the
shops themselves but you can also have the items delivered to your home at a time that is
convenient to you as well. By not having to physically do the shopping itself, you actually save
valuable time.
Online shopping has become a popular alternative to shopping in store these days because
of the benefits it offers. If you have not joined the ever growing population of online shoppers,
this is your opportunity. With online shopping, you save money, time, and effort all with the
click of a mouse.
