THE ‘WHAT’ OF EQIUP
When expanded, the acronym, EQIUP, means, ‘Ensuring Quality in Upper Primary ‘. It aims
at tapping the inherent talents of the students through various monitored activities given
within and beyond the prescribed text-book, thus ensuring not only quality education, but
also zero-failure at the Upper Primary Level (Classes VI-VIII). There is an emphasis on
‘learning-through-doing’, encouraging mass participation through Group Activities, which
makes learning an enjoyable, enlivening and ennobling process, during the course of which
the students imbibe Twentieth Century Living Skills that are needed to cope with life in
future. The main components of EQIUP are
Readiness Programme for Upper Primary Stage
Implementation and Monitoring at the School Level at the Subject Committee Meetings
Resource Support at the School Level
Quarterly Monitoring at the Cluster and Regional Levels through Meetings at the
Respective Levels

THE ‘WHY’ OF EQIUP?
The Upper Primary Level is a transitory stage between the
Primary and Secondary, which is often neglected. The teach-
ing methodology, the increase in the number of subjects and
the different ways of testing leave the students groping in
the dark initially, till they finally manage to find a foothold.
In order to bridge this gap, the Readiness Programme in all
the subjects is implemented in the VI standard in the month
of April. Moreover, the various activities and programmes
conducted in the classroom and outside lay a firm founda-
tion and gear them up to take up the challenges that come
their way, as they smoothly climb up into the Secondary
Phase. This, in turn, will help them to gel easily with the
learning scenario in the higher classes too. Thus the motto
of enjoyable learning with qualitative result can be
achieved.
THE ‘HOW’ OF EQIUP?
Being an activity-oriented approach, stress is laid on involving
students in variety of activities, both academic and co-
curricular, so that they get the essence of the points that have
to be driven home through the text-books. It makes the teach-
ing-learning transaction livelier and also more useful. Opti-
mum utility of the infrastructure-Computer Labs, Junior Sci-
ence Lab, Maths Lab, Science Park and the Library- is en-
sured through the monitoring by the Principal. The EQIUP
Calendar of activities is prepared based the guidelines circu-
lated at the Regional Level. The monthly EQIUP activities are
reflected in the Teaching Diaries along with the record of the
ICT classes. The textual exercise as given in the NCERT text
book are taken up during the classroom transaction. The Li-
brary book is maintained with the Book Reviews and the as-
sessment of one of the FA2/4 activity is based on the review
of a book. Integration of Co-scholastic and Academic areas is
done wherever possible. In due course, the low achievers are
identified and remedial measures are taken up in order to
bring them up to the minimum level of achievement. Their per-
formance is monitored and recorded and the feedback is giv-
en to both the Principal and the parents. Regular Parent-
Teacher Meetings are also convened to keep the parents
abreast with the performance of their wards.
